This may be a vain hope, but now I’m praying the game has you hooked enough to stick around for Stormblood.
Of for now other reason than the desire to see you go though the 60-70 Warrior quests.
No one really dies in FFXIV.
@4:38 Final Fantasy likes to throw real-world historical and mythological references around.
Pharos is the name of the real-world island where the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria was built; it also lends its name to a number of fairly important lighthouses around the world.
Sirius is Greek for "glowing" or "scorching", but is also the name of the brightest star in the sky.
Which would mean that "Pharos Sirius" means Bright Lighthouse Island.
unrelated, but i REALLY HATE that they gave cid eyebrows even though his model is based on a highlander but I HAVE TO DRAW MINE ON WITH A PIECE OF CHARCOAL
in 1.0, the planned fight with Titan and Leviathan got canned due to IRL event (the Earthquake in JP)
this basically made Garuda's theme, "Fallen Angel", Soken's debut boss theme.
I love your series! It's well done and it gives me hella nostalgia from when I was a wee sprout 🙂
"it cannot surprise me anymore" …that earned you a sub here and follow on Twitch because I want to see every moment you eat those words. LOL (and your videos are fun. XD but this cinched it.)
Garuda just wants to rule the world. She did literally nothing wrong. Also have you SEEN those thighs.
Has anyone reminded Dad that Folgers cans are also red?
He is the Folgers Fire Hydrant.
This series has become my favourite weekly ritual, I hope you end up doing the whole game 😀
the difficulty will / can be increased later, don't worry
oh no, its not spriggan poo, you literally murder the creature and gut it like a fish. its stomach acid coats the crystal and protects you from the radiating corrupted aether. Spriggan are like FF tauntauns, the smell worse on the inside.
The chimera comes from Greek legend, and it's pretty much as described in the myths. FFXIV didn't make it up.
"I look forward to getting my own house"
Laughs in houses being limited for no reason
The chimera exists because of the (redacted) program by the (redacted) empire in the (redacted) era, lead by (redacted), aka (redacted). This program of course is foreshadowing for (redacted), where chimeras of many varieties abide. The relational position between (redacted) and the chimeras parallels the position between (redacted) and (redacted), but it's never said outright, as that would be just too obvious.
Only the biggest houses cost 50mil. There's smaller sizes that cost less. Ofc if the smaller size is enough for you depends on you haha. My goal is to one day maybe get a medium so I can make a cute loft space, but even then I don't know how good I'll be at logging in regularly once I get caught up. I might want to take a six month break or something, I dunno yet. I've never been caught up before. But it's definitely going to happen this year (whether it'll happen before or after dawn trail drops remains to be seen).
What time do you normally stream?
NOW FALL
(DOWNOW DOWNOWNOWNOWNOW)
You're just getting started 😉 Buckle up =) Just gets better from here =)
Im living for this journey. I legitimately am hoping to catch a stream one day and play as one of the stalkers
ah yes, aurum vale, the nightmare dungeon
Dudes name is lambert, calls him lambo.
Do you do this to your friends irl lol
you will cry. Many times to catch up to endwalker.
Oh coin counter how they have nerfed you. Coin counter used to be the first boss people did that DIDN'T have telegraphed aoes.
Aurum Vale go seriously nerfed though.
It used to be one of, if not the, most difficult ARR dungeon
Right around when I first started playing, the creator of Berserk had passed and for nearly a week straight there was a very similar vigil in Ul'dah on every server except it was an endless line of Dark Knights. I was never into Berserk so the news of the creator's passing didn't really affect me much personally, but seeing everyone come together like that and collectively trying to honor someone who clearly meant so much to a lot of people honestly made me cry. It was one of the first moments I can remember really thinking that this was a community I /wanted/ to be involved in as much as I could, even if inevitably I ran into the occasional asshole.
Yeah the lead up to Garuda is a bunch of nonsense, but it's a great fight, my favorite ARR boss theme, and a real highlight of the 2.0 story. The Ultima Weapon sure makes a hell of a first impression
You’ll learn more about Cid and his relationship with his father if you do the Bozja storyline for the Relics (ones for Shadowbringers).
It's so dumb that some random ass music company hits ARR music with takedowns but you can play newer music just fine (normally)
I find it funny you specify Y'shtola as British. I believe the ARR English dub was done in America, but when they got to Heavensward they moved the production to the UK. So you just kind of accept that the dialogue sections of FFXIV feel like an elaborate BBC production at some point.
"Why is it a lion?" The long and short of it is some evil science wizards wanted a dragon killing machine so the grafted a whole bunch of animals together and made that. They were so good at their job that they are still alive. Very dnd, very fun.
Mimidoa changed his tune fast if you are a girl..
Cutter's Cry, Dzmael Darkhold, and Aurum Vale are actually the only surviving dungeons from 1.x.
"Nothing in FFXIV can surprise me anymore." I thought the same in every expansion, and I was wrong every single time XD
Okay something that's kinda confusing the way it's worded is that when Gaius say's "eikon" he's referring to Garuda, not the mecha-centaur weapon. "Eikon" is what the Garleans call the primals.
"Nothing in FFXIV can surpise me anymore." -Caffeinated Dad 2024
Oh sweet summer sprout…
20:11 "the helmet stays on"
"Anyway" removes helmet
If you managed to enjoy yourself through this bit of the story, you're going to love this game. Being led around on a wild goose chase after corrupted crystals of the wrong element is often used by the fanbase as the go-to example of ARR being a bit faff and full of annoying filler (the fact they go "oops, wrong crystal!" several times REALLY rubs people the wrong way). It's all way, way uphill from here.
I just learned that there's a trick to Aurum Vale's firat room, just run through ans go to the boss room. When you get there, dont pull the boss, just go to the left corner and moat of the trash mobs will lose aggro
I always enjoy watching people replay this game so I dont have to do new game plus to remember bits of the story
