  1. Awesome video! I think the only thing that was a bit off was the controversy. TOP wasn't the first one that had a player punished. In DSR, the first clear video was showcased by a player that had a few visual addons that allowed them to see timers on debuffs, and a few other quality of life mods for the HUD. SE punished that player as well and later implemented all of the HUD mods he had been using. His sacrifice shouldn't be forgotten because it made the game better as a whole for the raiding community.

  2. this is a seriously amazing video, and just super cool to hear about as someone who started recently and wants to eventually get to this content. thank you for covering this (and dsr) in such incredible detail and making is so fun to watch and listen to!

  3. TOP was my "trial by fire", and completing it on the patch cycle it was released was and is my biggest accomplishment in the game, while playing black mage. Playing Black Mage in the most difficult fight(s) in the game was a personal goal of mine since i started the game. And i had missed the DSR on patch hype train, so when TOP was reveled.. there was no way i was missing out. It made me so much better at the game than i ever thought i was capable of. And a raid requiring perfect execution on the final phase, is insanely satisfying and will make it stand the test of time. Was very excited to see this documentary about the release after seeing your DSR video. And i look forward to future ultimate content, and potentially being "on-par", with the world racers that inspired me to play in the first place.

  4. I think the saddest part is that the run dynamis mechanics are all really cool mechanically, creative, inventive, satisfying to get down etc, but there is NO WAY any pf group is gonna get through those mechs without plugins

  5. While I understand teams, wanting to be secretive with their tricks for progression in the end of the day, being unwilling to stream, their progress makes them much more suspicious in the eyes of the community because they’re exponentially more likely to be using hacks to boost their progression. It’s unfortunate, but no one wants it turn out that the winning team was actually a bunch of Billy Mitchells.

  6. Ultimate raiders: This game is not challenging enough at all and its disapointing
Ultimate raiders: Lets mod so we can see these mechanics easily
Ultimate raiders: I don't get why people are mad we modded?

  7. Before I add anything I want to say I am not an ultimate raider so by no means do I have much say in designs or how people progress them, but only for the ultimates. I also wanna say great video and super interesting to see it as a whole, and while I do one day wanna try DSR, TEA, and UCOB just to try I am glad I don't try them now.

Now as for the rest my thoughts on it.

1: World first races should never be officially recognized period. SE has two instances already of what I would call "failed rankings" in the form of the dogwater ranked pvp set up and the Ishgard restoration rankings back when it was relevant. Being competitive is good, racing for world first as a community is good, but official recognition would drive people further to "cheating" more than already. Currently the people who do world first clears have no prize aside bragging rights so even though there is variable amounts of "cheating" most people who try either quickly realize its not worth it I am sure or just don't care for the first clear regardless.

2: I personally do not think you can literally cheat period in FFXIV aside PVP. If you run ACT, auto markers, auto calls, or whatever else I really don't care if you are in my party or anothers doing hard content. I do all my content without any third party personally but why do people legitimately care in PVE content if another person is using tools to help THE GROUP AS A WHOLE. There is no competition outside of racing for the first clear and I am 100% positive that the majority of clears overall in almost any hard content uses third party tools in one form or another. So to shun one group I find it weird not to shun everyone including ACT users which is the most basic third party tool. If SE did make an actual official world race then there is much more legitimacy but even then it is only for the world first race, not after.

3: This is more of a personal opinion and experience with hard core content but….. TOP looks like the most miserable pile of garbage any person would choose to subject themselves too. At least on release. I already struggle to put up with redoing the same fights over and over in criterion and extremes and those pale in comparison compared to TOP and I am sure other ultimates. The fact that people are so ready to throw themselves at fights for hundreds of pulls only to not clear, disband, and never achieve anything will forever bogle my mind. Visually though…. TOP looks great. It's just the mechanics I think look awful to do.

Overall I genuinely hop they scale back the difficulty on this not for myself but the actual people that do this. I have heard basically nothing good from actually doing the fight and the amount of effort people have to do on these seems way to high. ALSO BUFF CULL MENTIONED LMAO GET REKT ULTIMATE RAIDER (cries in eureka/bozja buff cull)

  8. I love Alpha's chirp to you as he glows with Dynamis. It's as if he's telling us "its okay, you've got this." And we get Torn From The Heavens, one of the WoL's lietmotifs. A joyous and hopeful song in stark clash to Final Omega's From The Heavens. To me, i see it that Omega has become a Warrior of Light too.

Tldr: we teach a killer robot the power of love by using the power of extreme violence

  9. I only recently started TOP, up to P3 atm, I’d heard horror stories about it but I’m actually really enjoying the experience so far and honestly I’m less intimidated and more excited about the trios I have to look forward to in P5 😄

  10. I want to take my chance at doing an Ultimate World First. I've cleared fights on patch, but I honestly don't know where to start with finding a group that would be:

    A. Want to do a race for world first.
    B. Be good enough to prog.
    C. Have the time to commit to this.

Watching and doing Ultimates – it's been a dream of mine to be able prove to myself I'm one of the best – pushing myself with players who have a likeminded view on pushing themselves to the absolute limit.

  11. This Raid had come out not too long after I had started playing the game so I was there to see the prog for this one, whereas most of Dragonsong had alredy been figured out by the time I learned of it

I am obviously NEVER going to even try these, but its so crazy to see the level of skill, memorisation and luck needed to beat these fights and work around the eye melting effects

  12. I'm going to be real: Ultimate raids aren't really a challenge for me, but getting the other 7 glue eaters to do the things is what is rage inducing. It's not challenging, it's frustrating. I was in a "static" that had like four people that relied on tools…they disbanded after months of not ever getting passed monitors. Yes. That bad. I swapped to NIN and just pugged until I hit P5 Sigma and then I lied about my prog, got to a P6 pull a few times, then signed up for a Saus clear. I was in a group that I curated and formed at the same time, but used the Saus clear as a safety measure just in case. I ended up not needing it, and we got the W after three weeks of hardcore grinding it out. Lads were fucking mad, they were mad lads. I love those fucking dudes. They got the thangs DONE. So no, if you have the right group, the fight isn't hard, and it's actually pretty enjoyable. If not? Yeah don't even try this. PUGs are suffering from severely profound mental retardation. People had the AUDACITY to say some shit to me when I called their little asses out for not being ready and being little prog lairs. Healers and tanks can go pound sand. I fucking hate them so much for ruining this shit. DPS could be on point EVER pug and some idiot tank or healer, MOSTLY HEALERS that can't play this game and think they are momo or some shit, not healing and then their ass gets humbled and the party disbands. I've blacklisted SO many undeserving morons that couldn't do shit. It meant that I didn't really have many options for PF, but, at least I wasn't going into guaranteed trap number 500.

This dude named UFig was SO god awful.

  13. I really enjoyed watching this video, Rinon. I have a lot of thoughts as a watcher to the world race.

Honestly, I didn't know what kind of mechanics were happening throughout the whole fight. I was watching quite a bit, and still didn't understand the mechanics. I didn't start playing until after Stormblood, so it was hard for me personally to see how enhanced a lot of Omega's mechanics were in this Ultimate. It would have been fun to progress Stormblood's savage tier when it was current, and then I might have been more intrigued by it all. (I think because of this, a lot of the Shadowbringer's babies are going to be psyched for the next Ultimate.) Most of the time tuning in, however, every group was sort of re-progging the first phase of the fight with Program: Loop. I didn't know how random that particular mechanic was, and now I understand the hurdles everyone was dealing with. Still though, without hardly knowing what was happening, it was all interesting to watch.

I think myself and many others were sort of bummed out that it was just 'Omega' for this ultimate. While the fight was still cool, I think a lot of people would have loved to see Exdeath, Kefka, and Chaos. They would have made an awesome trio phase in my opinion, but I guess it might have been too mixed of themes since all of these final bosses were from different games. Omega was not a presence in FF1 either, but that is not the reason at all. I believe Alpha, the little birb was the theme to have Omega utilize the power of emotion: Dynamis. None of the other bosses would have resonated with that, with only nihilism only being their theme. Still, I enjoyed watching the fight.

I was pretty sad that Otter Nuts ran out of progress time in the race, because I thought they were a fun team to watch. I am very happy that Kindred did win. The last phase of the fight had an incredible climax, so everyone was hyped to see teams reach there during their progress runs. It is sad though with the situation with UNNAMED. While I do agree that what they did was wrong, and stained the race; the amount of abuse was really rough to see from the community. I guess because it was the race; they got the big target. I know so many people from North America, and know a few from Europe, that use 3rd party programs all the time to win higher end content, and get 0 punishment. I know quite a bit of people who, sadly, won't touch anything savage or ultimate when a patch release because they rely so heavily on 3rd party programs to carry them through the fight. In other words, they don't know how to play the game without them. (I am not mentioning QOL.) While it is not my business, it's a bummer to know, and a concern at large. When you get around to talking about 3rd party programs; I would love to know your intake about them all.

Again, thank you for making this video. It was really enjoyable to watch.

  14. Unnamed earned that clear and deserved it. I can't say I am happy about them not rewarding their 9th man with a clear, but still everybody using the same things and they cleared first. It feels like they honorably sat back and accepted punishment alone that probably everybody deserved, and sure Yoshi-p has to discredit their win, but the community should've stood behind them.

  15. i think the way you word xiv stuff as epic adventures when in reality its people sitting on their ass playing the game or watching twitch and taking time off their real lives to sit at their desk unshowered. its a bit corny.

  16. I know there is a significant disconnect between me, the humble american gamer, and the japanese tech businessman. And with all respect to Yoshi-P, but I strongly, STRONGLY, disagree with how both Square and the community responded to the "controversy". In my eyes, absolutely nothing wrong was done, which I understand is an unpopular opinion. But alas, its the hill I'll die on.

Other then that, excellent video. While not quite the rollercoaster of triumph that DSR was, the progression of TOP was still very exciting to see a deep dive into. Now that the Ultimates have ben covered, I'm very excited to see what Rinon will tackle next for a lager project. <3

  17. This raid was bad. Wasn't fun. Wasn't interesting. Too hard to see anything. Really stupid buff timings. Boring bosses all around. (seriously this was the amazing cameo raid teir and all we did was fight black and white enemies for 20 minutes what the hell? Yes. I know the last two phases the bosses got an amazing pee colored overtone get off my back) It was bad. hopefully they never do anything like this again.
