First! =P
FFXIV has almost something for everyone. There are SO many aspects, and each one given an incredible amount of very clearly loving attention. I love this game so much.
I like how you say "slow" and not "bad". The story is fun, even at its humble beginnings. And it's also not "get through this to get to the good stuff". The "good stuff" would not be good without all the groundwork. It's all important.
The only thing i hated about the free trial was that you couldn't use party finder or befriend people, cause i can't understand why they would block those features in free trial
It happened to me. Back in Stormblood around 4.5ish, I kept trying out alot of MMOs becuz I was bored of BFA. And everywhere I went, people kept saying "FFXIV is the best story ever" and I should try it out. The game looked super off-putting to me and it honestly felt like total BS. Like I dont really play games for stories and I hate those anime waifu games ,but now almost 6 years later, Im still playing this stupid weeb game and I have to admit its a fun game that got me totally hooked and yes, FFXIV story is actually pretty good 😀
Kinda Maybe SPOILERS:
Also for everyone who thinks Dawntrail MSQ is bad, wait for the DTs actual conclusion in 7.3 to cast judgements. In my opinion, most x.0 MSQs are very meh during launch and actual meat of the expansion story where everything nicely ties up is in x.3.
I only regret not taking advantage of the free trial, but in the same token, by starting with a paid account, and having a Free Company giving me a discount on teleports (and easy access to a Stormblood area at the time), I was able to get through the MSQ in a somewhat short order.
Beyond that, I concur.
I fully agree with the statement to abuse the free trial as much as possible. It's absolutely insane how far it has come since I started back in Stormblood. Back then it wasn't based on expansions….nope it was based on levels (also you only had 14 days), and what level were we capped at. 35, you could only level to 35 basically up to titan. Thankfully I was already a fan of the FF franchise and I had made to around level 21 and was starting to get into it lol.
Permanent best Advice for everyone till a certain point in Shadowbringers
Turn up the music to the highest healthy degree
I see you've met Hildibrand's berserker culinarian mum!
You should check out the crafting and gathering, too. It has genuine relevance at end game.
The fishing, particularly Ocean Fishing Trips, is also really good fun.
I think the take it slow advice applies to everyone. So many players nowadays rush through everything and then complain about having nothing to do and the answer is pretty self-explanatory. I rushed through all of Endwalker and really regretted it because I didn’t enjoy it to its fullest. Taking it much slower with Dawntrail this time around and have been enjoying it much more.
after 2800 hrs playing the most disappointing thing in the game is that DRK is not a damage class 😢 I start playing before endwalker and wanted to play DRK as DPS thinking you could even tho it was a tank like in other mmos… I was wrong :'D
Its almost like you have to Hear, Feel, Think in regards to your second point.😁
I think this take might be a bit biased because you have people lining up to do synced group content with you at every step of the way. Most sprouts don't get this experience and instead spend a lot of time wandering around alone, missing a ton of the good experiences due to not having a group for them.
I do agree with your advice and it's an extremely rewarding experience, but there is some nuance to it.
As a veteran player since 2.x(and even 1.x lol) most of these advices are pretty terrible except maybe trial being a freebie, just skip everything there, story is mid visual novel at best anyway and is very overhyped by fanboys.
Low level gameplay is terrible rn with most class kits being cut to nothing until max level, many classes don't even work properly until 80+ cuz devs don't care about anything that is below current expansion level, so all your story duties until that point are absolute faceroll(due to inflated stats) and are extremely boring due to classes being dumbified and butchered through years. Get to max lvl asap if you actually want to play a game and not just read a visual novel.
You can have all jobs on your character but in endgame you can properly gear only one role or type of stat job decently, so this ability to have lots of jobs on same character never really pays off in a long run. And most jobs now, especially tanks and healer are very homogenized and feel almost like skins of one class, with many jobs loosing all identity and unique features.
200h? Bro is still a sprout.
Solid advice! If I may add to things you can do outside the obvious (raiding, crafting, main story), I love the housing and glamour scene in FFXIV.
People share how creative they can get by doing glam cosplays and have housing contests. Some people redecorate their houses every once in a while to match the season, while others converted theirs into dance clubs, haunted houses, photo studios, drama theatres, and more!
Apart from that, I know people who eventually become friends for life from… mahjong. Yep, they play mahjong together in FFXIV, now they made a guild together. I also know someone whose biggest weekly reset joy is to check the MGP lottery ticket
Oh, and don’t sleep on the PVP. It’s a bit jank at times, but I slowly warmed up to it, and now it’s part of my daily routine lol
Truly there’s something for everyone
Plus I think the boost is only really helpful if you have alts in this game. Known plenty of people who story-boosted because a friend recommended it and then wondered where the content went only to realize that the skipped a great deal of content by doing so.
change to level 1 gathering > go outside the city and gather 1 crystal shard so that it's in your log now > make your retainers gathering jobs and send them to gather those shards. You can use them yourself if you want to be a crafter or you can sell them for easy low level starter money.
It took me about 8 months to reach the end of Shadowbringers when I started due to being sidetracked constantly and wouldn't have it any other way as I enjoyed all the distractions
