The Guildhest quest needed you to choose between the optional items and then you could complete it. It is fun watching someone play FFXIV for the first time. It reminds me of all the things I didn’t know and then learned along the way. I also wanted glamour! You will get there, don’t worry. Remember that the quests to open up glamour are unlock side quests. That means they are blue ones that have a little plus sign on them. When the MSQ takes you to Vesper Bay, you will see an NPC named Swyrgeim in the main plaza and she will have them. I think you have to be a certain level both in MSQ and in your role quests to see them. It has been so long I don’t remember all the details. I am sure someone will jump in with them.
Even when you get the quest for glamour, the quest for glamour is still far far away as there are thousands of sources of glamour from dungeons and other means that you have to progress through the story to get to, and wear.
Ok I checked and those unlock quests are more of a purple color. Anyway the three glamour quests are level 15 and the MSQ will get you to Vesper Bay but I’m not sure when exactly. Also if you have opened the airships, you can take the airship from Gridania to Limsa Lominsa, then you can get to Vesper Bay by taking the Ferry next to the Arcanists' Guild in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks.
You can get a Chocobo at level 20. It involves choosing a Grand Company and earning enough seals to get the “Chocobo Issuance” and doing the unlock side quest called “My Little Chocobo”. You can find out the details by searching online for how to get your Chocobo. I could give you a link, but am I allowed to do that? Do you want one?
We all started out having to wear the terrible ugly ARR leveling gear, don't lose hope!
getting a Chocobo and unlocking Glamour happen around the same time. The MSQ is how you get there. You are close. First they will send you on a mission the unlocks the other two beginning cities. That will set you up to join a Grand Company which is where you get your chocobo mission. This will also open the mission to join the scions. Doing this will unlock the area where you can get the glamour mission. A little about Glamour. What it does is let you make you current gear look like pieces in your inventory. Which means unless you have gathered the gear you can not glamor to look like the gear you like. glamouring works three ways. A lot of people use glamour to make there current gear look like previous levels of gear that they have collected. These are the fancy armor sets, they are earned. The second is buying gear off the message boards. This is where people get the costumes they wear. Another source of costumes is from the ffxiv store https://store.finalfantasyxiv.com/ffxivstore/en-us/ where you buy things for real money. Unlocking glamor only unlocks the ability it does not give the outfits. Remember you can only use a piece as glamour if it is equal to or less then the piece you are wearing. Most costumes are for all classes and are level less then 10.. Armor is job, gender, and level specific. What I would suggest is when you see something you like ask the player how they got it.
Lavnader bed is one of the housing areas. Housing is end game. it is very expensive, we are talking millions of Gil
I think you are getting pretty close. At the rate you're going, maybe in 2-3 more episodes unless you make them a bit longer.
There is still many adventures for Willith to experience before she finds herself with a chocobo and an invite to visit Vesper Bay, but I think you’ll enjoy it. Paleton is a great ability and helps you sprint and is the reason i play my alts as archer, so I can run everywhere in early game 😂 you’ll look back in this mountless, glamourless period with fondness once you end up in future expansions, its such a nostalgic time to look back on, but its over in a flash in hindsight. I hope you continue to enjoy your playthrough, and well done on saving Laia's egg
glad to see you enjoying the game and learning while you can makes my day a lil bit better <3
What, you don't find oven mitts appropriate hunting attire? XD
So the quest you ended on "Dread is in the Air" is main story level 14. You will find the glamour npc at main story level 17 (12 more main story quests). So for now just focus on the quests and you'll get there in time, no worries! These early quests are all about introducing you to the aesthetics of each zone and the people who live there so "stage is set" for the stories that happens there, as well as giving you time to learn combat. You're doing great, keep it up and the glamour will be yours! 😁❤
If you log in and can't remember what you're supposed to be doing, you can click on the top left quest (Don't Look Down), or go into your journal to see what quests you have started. To open your journal, click the exclamation point(!) in the bottom right side of the screen, and select journal from the dropbox.
Good luck on your Masters degree! What are you studying, if I may ask? And if I mayn't, kindly tell me to shove off 😀
On stress: It totally depends on what you're doing, but for the most part, the game is a stress reliever. If you're running content with someone and they're being asses, it can be disheartening, but that's a rare occurrence. There are all sorts of low stress activities, such as crafting or fishing, creating glams or decorating a house, learning how to play an instrument (if you know how to read music irl, this is a fun option: the archer class will unlock the ability to play music with in-game instruments – sometimes you'll walk into a town and see street buskers playing The Phantom of the Opera near the Aetheryte, or sometimes practicing in a more secluded space), sightseeing logs (the game gives a hint about a place to visit and you're supposed to search for it- I haven't done this yet, as I think it would be a lot of fun with a group), Gold Saucer games, etc.
The camera icon at 2:32 isn't actually a cutscene. I think it means that they're streaming or something? I can't recall at the moment.
You could complete that guildhest quest, you just needed to select an optional item as reward. Guildhests are kind of like FATEs – stuff around the overworld you can do for experience – with two differences. The first is that you basically sign up for a guildhest instead of stumbling into it. The second is that there are "crafting" and "gathering" guildhests if you are a crafter or gatherer. Gatherers basically have their own little gathering FATE, but crafters can take a contract to deliver certain items to an NPC for money and experience. There's no need to worry too much about hests right now, but they're a neat thing.
Chocobos are a long way off yet (once you join a Grand Company, you'll be able to get one). Glamour can be unlocked earlier, and you're… a few videos away, I'd wager. I think you run a few dungeons before that time.
Continue to have fun with the game! The early game is slow, but it is intended to teach you how things work, so it is slow for a reason.
Its… hard to tell for me whether or not the game is stressful… I play FF14 for 3 years now and before that, I was already familiar with MMOs. For me, the game is like a book and I like reading, immersing myself in another world.
Glamour is a rabbit hole that will only drain your gil, RL money and time. Believe me, I spend most of my time obtaining and making armor just for glamour.
There's always just one more piece to complete your set. Just one more piece.
BTW, the FFXIV store has it yearly sell right now. Best to obtain them now while the sell is on.
Glad to see you are still enjoying your time. 😊 To answer one of your early questions, I personally find this game relaxing. It's kind of like an amusement park, where you can pick and choose what you want to participate in. So if you want a challenge, you can do something challenging, if you want something relaxing, there is plenty to do to relax. Take it at your pace, and when school gets to be too much, log in and enjoy Gridania's birdsong and dappled shade for a while.
