I’m not an MMO person, normally, but maybe I can make a difference for the award winning game Final Fantasy XIV, with its free trial including gameplay up to lvl 60 and all the other stuff.

  2. Oh boy, I have a bit to say about this one.

Regarding Gaius, as repugnant as his ideology may be, I've always kind of respected the earnestness with which he believes in it? Like, to me, something that always stuck me with me was how he proclaimed that your character had power befitting a ruler, and after you defeat the Ultima Weapon in the video after this one, and he's lying on the ground broken and defeated, where you would expect a villain to curse you for foiling his plans, he instead practically begs you to take up the mantle and become a ruler yourself. And of course you never would, you talk yourself about how the problems with that ideology, but I always kind of respected how he so genuinely believed in that ideology that his final wish is more to make you believe in it too rather than any desire for vengeance against you. There's no pettiness there, but a genuine belief.

And speaking of pettiness, oh boy, Nero. Nero is the best. He's such a petty bitch and I love him for it so much. Like, that is the very embodiment of what his character is, and it makes him such a delightful heel. Like, you watch him flee so it shouldn't count as a spoiler that someday he does come back, and it fills me with delight.

Lastly, a bit of talk about the dungeons themselves. Just like the Ritahtyn fight, these dungeons were reworked very recently in the most recent patch. They used to be 8 man dungeons instead of 4 man, and the Ultima Weapon fight used to be part of the Praetorium instead of its own thing. These dungeons were notorious for being WAY too easy with 8 people. The entire reason cutscenes in it are unskippable and auto-proceed is that they had to be made that way people would blitz through the place faster than new players could finish watching the cutscenes. (Sidenote: a tragic downside to making the cutscenes auto-proceed is that, once upon a time, you actually used to get dialogue options during the Gaius monologue and used to be able to choose how to respond to him.) With the recent rework of the dungeons, they now feel more appropriate in difficulty, and the boss fights are MUCH more enjoyable, buuut… I do feel the dungeons lost a bit of their epic scope in the process. Like, the actual space the dungeons take place in used to be larger and more involved. Taking down the magitek generator in the first dungeon used to be almost a quest in and of itself that involves shooting down an airship and crashing it into the generator. Praetorium used to be bigger and involved more actually travelling through the space and physically riding elevators up and down instead of being teleported around. The Livia boss fight used to be a two-stage affair where first you had to fight against her while she rode a special white magitek armor, and then fought her on foot after (and the loss of that white magitek armor from this moment makes something further down the line feel less meaningful). Undeniably the dungeons ARE better now, but still, I feel like there was a better middle ground that could have been achieved between trimming the fat and keeping some of the scope intact.

  3. I really like Gaius as a villain, for how Super villain he is he genuinely believes himself to be saving Eorzea, there are a thousand little touches of him doing the right thing just through the filter of the horrific ideology he built out of what his empire taught him. He is fully at fault for doing horrible things but through a lack of examining his ideals rather than his intentions

  4. So, uh… you can get those Death Claws as a mount. Head to Old Gridania, and there's a chap called Jonathas who sells it for achievement points. Hopefully someone pointed them out to you!

EDIT: Ok, never mind, always watch the whole video before commenting,

  5. Man it's weird seeing someone having the redesigned duties and bosses as their first experience

As for Gaius and the Garleans…..yeah there's a lot to tear into with regards to their idealogy (and Gaius is far from the worst among the higher-ups)

  6. Your analysis of his beliefs is one of the main reasons why I was excited for you to specifically play Final Fantasy. That and your love of the history of our fantasy and how it is represented in this MMO

  7. Gaius makes some good points
but he is also a fascist so….YEET

also, now that you are one step away from finishing 2.0
during the 2.x questline i highly suggest doing most of the new blue quests that popped up everywhere, because uhh…they are kinda important.
Oh and now that you can do level 50 dungeons and get tomestones, you should always get the gear bought with tomestones for your jobs (weapons too unless you plan to do the relic weapons)
