The HIDDEN Details of Final Fantasy 14's World

Final Fantasy 14 is the first MMO I actually cared about. And while I’ll definitely tour more MMOs in the future, I thought it best to start with my favorite.

  1. that stairwell is actually used later in a Hildabrand questline. I have found that some places in game make no sense at first but can be, and often are, used later if you choose to delve that deep into the side stories.

  2. I just found your channel tonight by chance, and I wanted to thank you for this video specifically.

I've been playing FFXIV for 5 years now and while I have taken notice to specific environmental details/the general aesthetic beauty of the architecture in specific areas, this video inspired me to log on and walk around my favorite hubs in the game and actually take in the atmosphere and the little things. It's made me appreciate this game that is already incredibly signifigant to me on a completely different level. I look forward to watching more of your content exploring the overlooked environments of other games.

  3. On this topic of "hidden or unmarked" locations, id suggest the "Remnants of a Realm" series from the speakers network channel, covers locations and things that were in the 1.0 version and how they survived in the current version of the game, they got some other good stuff as well

  4. Loving this series! Speaking of spacious single player RPGs, I'd love a little exploration of the gorgeous spaces in Dragon Age Inquisition. Lots of nooks and crannies and great vistas.

  5. in regards to the random inconsequential npcs, we still subconsciously notice movement so if an area is very still it can seem eerie or unfinished. compare empty Garry's Mod maps for example… the environment designers probably just thought those areas seemed empty and put some animated models there.
Great video, I love exploring game environments so I will definitely check out the other videos in the series!

  6. There is an NPC in Eulmore at the Beehive that just tries to offer an expensive bottle of alcohol several times and always gets shot down, then heads to his manager to say it's not working only to be brushed off, thus restarting his NPC routine. I feel so bad for him. I love you failure butler in beehive, bestie.

  8. An incredible video, and I'm so glad to have found your wonderful channel! Have you considered also having a look at the V1.0 FFXIV locations? I believe there is a fan project somewhere which is attempting to ressurect it in a way, although I hear it is notoriously difficult to get running. But It is fascinating to see some of the locations there, and how they have been cut down and split up for ARR (for example, various tunnels and stairwells which were used as loading areas, as the towns blended with the surrounding landscape without a dedicated loading screen). There is also pre-Calamity Coerthas, complete with unfrozen windmills! Anyway, keep up the great work!

  9. I like to just aimlessly wander around in this game and go sightseeing from time to time, especially in the areas from Heavensward, they always feel so special for some reason. Or retrace my steps from the main scenario, but without the quests to distract me from the details. I love how the weather and time of day can impact an area's visuals, Coerthas during a snowstorm at night feels like a completely different land than during clear weather in the daytime.

I wish the current relic quests would require grinding FATEs in old areas like the previous expansion's relics did, some people hated it (which is fair), but it brought you to spots you'd normally never come back to again. Fishing will have to serve as my new excuse to just sit around in those areas instead.

Also, have you ever stopped to look at the night sky? It's a detail that's easy to miss because players never look up unless they have to, but there are actual constellations, each with stories attached to them, it's quite neat.
