I would argue that FF14 is not a casual game no matter how much they try to spin it. With each expansion, they are leaning more into hardcore content and I would even go as far as to say Endwalker's features is pretty much all for hardcore outside of the Manderville weapons. This even includes Deep Dungeons like Eureka Orthos.
Look no further than the time gated tomestone system. You can really see how out of touch the top tier players are compared to the casual audience. "Just spend 10 million gil on the latest crafted gear. It's not that much of a problem is it?" But let's face it. Your average player base is neither a crafter nor a raider. They level one or maybe two classes to the cap. They do not have 10 million gil sitting in the bank for each patch cycle. If you are a casual player who just reaches the level cap, your progression is brought to a soft cap by the weekly limits. One piece of loot per normal raid. One piece of loot per alliance raid. Even if you coordinate your raid loot, the loot system still means you need a month to get your weapon to gear your class up for endgame content unless you somehow get into Savage raiding. But with how quickly new raid groups scale up ILVL requirements, you have to reach the endgame at the right time or you're just soft capped out of progression.
One issue is that the hardcore players seem to fail to see the struggles of the softcore players. Hardcore players determine whether content is hardcore based on how vulnerability stacks work. Thus, they see Eureka and Bozja as casual content because those vuln stacks can fall off. Softcore players determine whether content is hardcore based on whether or not indicators appear on the floor. Thus, they see Eureka and Bozja as hardcore content along with even the newer Normal/Alliance Raids. This is made worse by the resource management of content like Bozja is just beyond your casual audience because there's the natural instinct to stockpile resources rather than consume them. And let's face it. If a majority of your players, even if they're non-vocal, see a part of your game as hardcore, it's hardcore. It's similar to the Pokemon problem by Gamefreak. Whether they label games like Let's Go or Arceus as mainline games doesn't matter. The fans determined the games were not mainline. We're already reaching the point where Alliance Raids are taking a lot longer to reach 60% completion. Euphrosyne barely passed 60% when 6.5 hit and Thaleia is currently around half of that. For content that should be providing catch up gear, that's bad if 2/3 of your active player base isn't interacting with it when the content is supposed to be relevant. There's nothing stopping them from fixing these indicators other than themselves and the longer it takes them to do something about it, the worse it's going to get.
Also, remember that less than 3% of people who started Eureka finished it when it was relevant content. Almost 2x as many people finished the Omega Savage raids at that time. Only half the people who finished Eureka completed the Baldesian Arsenal so even less people truly "finished" Eureka.
You know I want to make a downfall game if downfall is making millions of dollars every month lol
Attacking the content creator was very uncalled for by Lynx
There’s a part FOUR?!?! I missed part Three!
Agree so much with this take Brian as a midcore player the entire patch cycle has felt bad. No ishgard restoration style content, no exploration zone. I cleared the deep dungeon and arguably this expansion it’s savage content. I did clear my first savage raid this cycle but I didn’t want to commit more time studying a guide to do a fight multiple times for one piece of gear. Most of this patch cycle I’ve started dabbling in gamba at rp venues, doing treasure map runs and levelling my submarines. Now I’m running out of motivation to login and if they made it so I wouldn’t lose the house and sub progress as the systems are linked I would quit rn until the next expansion.
They need to make a eureka based on ff11 in Dawntrail !
Endwalker is my first ff14 xpan that I’ve been playing from beginning to end (I was a WoW refugee that came in mid shadowbringers….5.1 or 5.2 if I remember correctly) and honestly I love 14’s pacing and systems (to be fair I don’t consider myself a hardcore player, I’d tried a patch of savage raiding and didn’t pan out)
I play classic FFXI, super fun.
It is not the MMO problem.. it is the problem when a PLAYER becomes obsessed and plays and breaths it.
I think He said he played 12k hours over 6years… That is 23% of those 6years he played a single game. That is insane!!! That is actually a full time job over the 6years.
It is not just with MMOs, it is a problem with the 0.00012% of people that get super hyper focused/obsessed with one subject. No matter what it is, it is not healthy
Everytime he said "I'm not trying to shit on those players"… Then continues to shit on them.
Just like "I'm not racist… But x group does Y"
