The current state of FFXIV PvP

#FFXIV #Shadowbringers

I completely understand FFXIV PvP is not for everyone, but let try and help the people who do enjoy it or would potentially enjoy it! ^o^

Sorry if I didn’t talk super clear in this video, I kind of just spoke from the heart for this one! Subtitles available!

  1. Who knows? Maybe now with the new WoW players, PvP has a "revival"? After all, many of them want to do PvP… might be a way to get their attention… 🙂

  2. yes yes yes 100000000X yes!

I was told as a new player by others to avoid PVP… what a mistake that was, Rival Wings is one of my favourite things in any game I've ever played.

  3. I believe everyone should give this a good try before making any judgements about pvp. It really is a fun part of the game and here’s hoping for more love and support for this.

  4. I’ve been trying to convince my friends to try out PvP with the new wave of sprouts but it just seems really difficult to learn between how hectic frontlines is and then 4v4 is only in feast. Coming from Destiny I’m used to PvP also giving decent gear that can be used in PvE content but the main appeal seems to be transmog and mounts from what I’ve heard so that’s disheartening as well

  5. Instead of ppl telling everyone that PVP is dead.. you should just let ppl try it out for themselves. like he said, fun is subjective.. just because you don't like it doesn't mean its "dead".

  6. Great video personally I think they should give more incentives for winning games. I see too many people queuing the daily frontlines roulette and not care about winning or losing because they are just there for the roulette XP.

  7. Agree with what you said. Its sad to see new players thinking there's not even pvp at all just because of this stigma.. like people should give this gameplay a second chance and let players themselves see if its fun. Hopefully if more ppl are into it, theres a chance SE might also put more resources for it

  8. PVP suffers from the same effect stormblood does, people hear everyone bad mouth it and PVPers talk shit about it as a joke but newer players and people who don't know better just start taking it at face value.

  9. One thing I know about pvp, when they add new wolf mark rewards, it gets more people in there. But with shadowbringers, they didn't add many. PVP itself would have a more active playerbase if there were rewards added every non-savage patch, so people can look forward to pvp when they're done with raids. It also needs more repeatable rewards – I enjoy the dark matter for repairs, but a new player who doesn't have crafters leveled won't. The food buff is nice, but once again new players don't worry much about it as it's more useful for endgame raiding.

Imagine if in addition the the alliance raid and hunt exchanges, people could also buy gear upgrade items via pvp. That would draw various people in as well, as well as adding a Daily Challenge for Rival Wings.

I've always hated the "X is dead" because often X isn't dead – it's small. Diadem 2 wasn't dead, neither is mahjong on NA, and neither are blue mage raids – they're just very small communities. Even LoV has people that do it.

  10. Love the message you are putting out here. As always Brian, I'm a big advocate of PVP and your support for PVP as a core part of the game. Ive dug into the differences across varying MMOs and really people just need to give it an honest go to see how enjoyable PVP can be.

Great choice on the Qanba Obsidian btw!!!

  11. For the casual player the pvp in FF14 is pretty fun & a great place to level alt jobs. If you don't take it too serious & just enjoy it for what it is, I think players will like it. It's great to go in with your friends/FC & just fool around in pvp & have a few laughs at each others suffering. Besides the glamour & mounts in pvp is pretty awesome. So if anyone just wanna take a break from MSQ hop into pvp and have fun.

  12. my biggest issue with pvp is its like learning a completely new game. at least back in heavensward i had a baseline knowledge and muscle memory coming into pvp. im a healer main and feel like a gimp version of my main classes in pvp

  13. recently started the feast and from the few matches I've played, I think I like it but what kind of stops me is the rewards like outside of top 100 there is only wolf marks, and I don't think I'm a top 100 contender so there is like no rewards for me really besides the enjoyment of doing which lets be real can only get you so far

  14. Youve got a great mindset man! I hope to see some more attention drawn to PvP by SE in the near future. Theres a lot of new blood coming into the game so I feel like if Square capitalizes on it and makes PvP more accessible to a wider audience and makes it feel more rewarding and fun to play, it could genuinely be successful

  15. just take the pvp from wow or at least the good ideas and then you have a complete good game, the only thing that makes me not play final fantasy 14 now is because i got bored of raiding and lvling alts and i dont like the pvp , i still wait for a pvp revamp to leave wow forever and play final

  16. Good vid! Very true about the stigma. It got a bad rep from the start, and, to be fair, it was pretty bad in the beginning. And SE spent a lot of time "fixing" stuff.

PvP is still too hidden, and the fact that they made it into a mini-game doesn't help. You often get these comments in the start of any FL: "why iz my hotbars messed up?"
According to SE, they did this 'cause PvP =/= PvE, which is most definitely true in this game, but, imo, completely separating the battle systems was a mistake. I lost interest in PvE after they did that.

  17. What people don’t get about FFXIV PVP is that PVP wasn’t supposed to be in FFXIV they added PVP because a group of people were complaining and wanted it to be in the game back in the 2.x patches. So they made PVP but it is NOT their priority, and now I see a bunch of players complaining about it and how it is dead and all that BS, well whose fault was that from the started? It’s the players who wanted it. SE wanted to do something else with that resource but nope, it went to PVP.

  18. Very good take ! Too many times I hear people saying PvP is super bad, because they heard it was bad. Yet they just repeat it over and over without being able to back that up with any arguments. Looking forward to the changes in EW but it's a shame that people would keep repeating what others told them and should see for themselves instead in good faith.

  19. Actually, as a new player i like pvps in game in general and i only play that. But in this game, when u see that they are animation delay – an insane server delay, a big diff beside dps class and tank/healers is kinda a joke, how are you suppose to play a pvp game like a card game cuz its litteraly whats about, a card game, u just need to predict the unpredictable cuz animation + server delay, how can a humain being can do that? purely impossible, and yeah casters that have for exemple 2.5sec casting time, they can litteraly move before the cast even end 0.5s before. You can say that the state of this pvp game isnt bad and just with theses simples exemple you can make a great idea of the actual dev

  20. Thank you for making this, I love PvP in most games yet wrote this one off because everyone gave it a bad word. I used to play it years ago – wasn't terrible but this looks like a big improvement already so I look forward to it since my return.

  21. I think the exclusive rewards from rankings are really the thing that hurts pvp the most. You'd think it'd incentivize people to queue more for a chance at a limited time mount or armor set, But all I see is "You have x amount of time to try and reach top 100 and if you don't, you wasted your time." Those items should personally be prizes for participating not for ranking. You can still make them exclusive to each pvp season. But imagine how many people would participate in pvp seasons if they knew they would guaranteed get the mount/armor set if they did?

I know this isn't perfect logic, what sort of ranking prizes would we give the players that do become top 100? Would there be as much incentive to rank at all? I can't really say. But people go for score alone in HOH/POTD/Achievement hunting just for the bragging rights. Dunno why pvp couldn't.

This coupled with the fact that the top 100 will usually set the floor for entry relatively quickly then stop queuing altogether making the queue dead for anyone hoping to rank is what kills pvp for me.
