Pointless posturing about what class you play in a video game has risen. Lord above please help me. Lately there has been a tidal wave of people using the term easy jobs to rip down others and form some sort of weird FFXIV social hierarchy of complete and total ridiculousness.

Easy is one of the dumbest terms I hear people use in gaming in general. But in final fantasy 14 this term is the lowest common denominator of pointless elitism.
I want people who are contributing the damage necessary, providing the utility necessary and executing mechanics properly to clear a fight. Boom. Mic drop. That simple.
Letβs talk about what jobs other people say are easy.
Iβve genuinely heard over the years that all of the tanks are very easy.
All of the healers can be played by a chimpanzee throwing itβs own at the keyboard. If you play physical ranged, some think you should simply light your character on fire. Summoner also is lumped in with physical ranged in spite of multiple casts and melee range abilities, red mage has been since itβs release heralded as the noob caster. Lastly, Reaper and samurai are the easiest of melee DPS and apparently should feel bad, dragoon barely skims by as barely acceptable.
Meaning the only three that are left are black mage, monk and ninja that Iβve very rarely heard be dabbed on for being easy. So basically, 16 out of the 19 jobs Iβve heard widely be slammed into the dirt for being easy. Itβs hard out here man.
Letβs have a mask off moment, going to be real.
Want to know what I enjoy doing in 14 raiding wise? Progging content and clearing content. And when progging I want to play what I want to play, that is scholar or sage, I want to learn the fight, experience the actual thrill of prog which I do enjoy and that sweet satisfaction of a clear. Prog is my favorite part of raiding. Healer prog is brutal and engages me fully.
[[
Farming? Genuinely bores me. Itβs those first few clears that bring me the most joy.
Items? Meh. Theyβll be outdated later, other than some unique glam pieces large nothingburger.
]]
I love Scholar and itβs something that has been in my wheelhouse for a very long time. I swear if you look for a pyramid somewhere that there are in fact hieroglyphs depicting me playing scholar and talking about Seleneβs spell speed and attack speed buffs being amazing. I enjoy it very much so I invested the time and beat the pavement with Scholar fight after fight after raid after trial after dungeon after pre-nerf atma grinding fate for literally years. I wanted to play Scholar and so I spent the time and got good at it.
Iβm going to be real with you, Iβd rather see you play exactly what you want to play than anything else. Get inspired and enjoy it. Like me from personal experience, if I want to play it I will spend the time and improve! That doesnβt make me some special snowflake! Thatβs normal!
I could not care less if you literally played spongebob quadrahedron pants hamburger flipper the job wacking things with a spatula and referencing spongebob quotes or a job that had a core mechanic of cooking. I say that in earnest. I donβt need to worry about smelling that.
Put simply, I want team mates that get the job done. I donβt care if thatβs my static, I donβt care if thatβs duty finder, I donβt care if that is party finder groups for extremes. I want people who are contributing the damage necessary, the utility necessary and executing mechanics properly to clear a fight.
But for some reason especially lately there has been a tidal wave of people talking about how easy some jobs are or how hard others are which people are putting on some strange pedestal.
I want to bring up the biggest concerning point about job choice, which is the ability to contribute DPS. And show why this easy thing is ridiculous and then we will move onto what actually matters after.
Let me bring up some actual numbers. Among melee DPS the difference between the highest and lowest DPS is around 300 DPS. Compared to the total 8.5k DPS a samurai who is the top dog that 300 DPS difference is around

I care about the difficulty of your job as much as the dump I took this morning. Be kind and fun, show up ready and familiar with rotation and mechanics and that's ALL I WANT.
Things that are difficult:
1. Housing
2. Find a static
3. Clear Ultimates
4. Clear Savage tier
5. Fishing
6. High end crafting
7. "Difficult" combat jobs
I think you're just hanging in the wrong circles
I haven't seen any chatter about job difficulty since EW dropped
I like Samurai because it's not as busy rotation makes me more comfortable when it's time to dodge mechs. Dragoon and Reaper have some burst phases so busy I just tunel vision and don't see a mech and die.
So video boils down to play what you want regardless of what others say because all that matters is that you can clear any content any job as long as you play well, like the job and are comfortable with it. Soooo video is more accurately described as "The hard truth about 'Job META' and doing difficult content" than it is about job difficulty imo.
I really appreciate this video. I have always been a healer in any game Iβve played. Itβs what has appealed to me since forever. I absolutely love WHM, and picked it to start as it was the only healer. I loved the idea of the other healers as well, but had always read they were too hard. I finally decided to give in and try the others, and I absolutely fell in love with SCH. The aesthetic, the feel, and needing to learn things to know how to advance is such a great feeling with my FC. I wish I had picked it up earlier, but Iβm glad I did. And Iβm so happy to see your videos express this opinion on what you like to play and why. Thank you!!! π
Why is MNK considered difficult? Its quite tame, simple combo to follow, few oGCDs to weave. Positional aren't a big dea anymore.
I play Ninja as my main, I don't play it out of a sense of elitism or because I think it's a tough job. (In fact I think it's a pretty easy job once you figure out how to do your opener.) I picked it up because I always played rogues in other RPGs and this was the closest thing to a rogue that I could find. It was hard to pick up, and every time I dropped the game for 4+ months I felt like I needed to relearn the class from scratch, but I still play it because it's fun. I'm not out to shit on other peoples class choices, I want people to enjoy the game as much as I do, and that means people should play whatever they want to play. I don't care if Black Mage is pumping out more DPS than me at any given moment, if you put me in that role I would hate the game, but I respect people who can play it, envy them even.
Another thing is I think there needs to be "easy" classes out there if you didn't have your class down to muscle memory and were constantly having to think about what to do next during Savage and Ultimate clears then the fights would be that much harder. The fact that fights are structured around remembering what moves the boss is going to do and dodging those mechanics means it's more important to pay attention to the boss than your own mechanics. And beyond that all those "easy" classes become much harder when you're doing the harder content anyway, healers have to plan out their heals, tanks need to discuss what defensives they're going to pop when, and DPS needs to figure out how greedy they can get before they absolutely need to avoid mechanics.
If I didn't know my job well enough for it to be easy with all that I simply would never try to do the harder content ever.
Now all that said, I do feel that a lot of the jobs have become… Fairly tame in terms of easiness in the face of the more casual content. I've been playing Scholar and Dark Knight since HW and I feel like both classes have over time taken a dive in stuff to do when it comes to the easy content. They've pulled a lot of the skills out of both jobs that gave each class a lot of character in place of this sorta cookie cutter way of handling both healers and tanks, and it's sort of made both the jobs rather dull when it comes to casual content. I feel like there should be some changes in both roles to make them have more things to do, or more answers to various things in a fight, but that's an entirely different conversation.
Everyone is built differently. I personally can't heal to save my life and I commend any healer that can heal. Others think the same of ranged dps/melee dps/casters/tanks. And there are some who can excel in all. Everyone is different. I love ranged physical DPS because I love being able to move around while performing my duty. As was said in the vid, play what you love and don't let anyone hate on you for doing so.
Remember, the purpose of playing games is to have fun. If you're not enjoying yourself/having fun, play something else. That simple. No need to overcomplicate.
The easiest job is the one you like to play the most.
In my opinion, difficulty is subjective.
When I first started playing in 2016, I thought some jobs were hard. But as time went by, I donβt think any job is hard.
In HW i mained MCH, DRK. Which were considered hard back then. I didnβt think they were hard, just engaging.
Omnicaster checking in!
I've experienced this personally from one of the healers in my static. He mains BLM outside our static. I prefer SMN. He is all over how "easy" SMN is over BLM and harps so much on how I'm just a fancy physical ranged dps with a one-button rotation that takes no skill. He routinely forgets I play all three casters. He forgets that I know how to play Black Mage. He forgets that I know Black Mage's rotation. I know the challenges the job faces, in no small part because SMN STILL faces the same challenges, it's just that our response to those challenges is in-built to the rotation and Triplecast is a cooldown instead of a vital portion of the rotation.
He doesn't play SMN. He hasn't touched the new class and I don't think he's ever played SMN, his was only leveled during Shadowbringers' last tier because he played SCH for it. He routinely shows complete ignorance of how my abilities work, the timings of all of my phases and spells and cooldowns, and never talks with me about coordination with the group the way he did with the other three dps. Because he doesn't know anything about SMN except the endlessly repeating elitism about how easy it is. He never noticed me using Rekindle on our tanks when they took a heavy hit, never noticed Radiant Aegis, nor how I somehow managed Ifrit phases during heavy movement, or Garuda whirlwind placement, or maximizing instant-casts to preposition. You know, the skills it takes to play Black Mage. Because they're the same skillset. Because they're both casters. Because neither of them is harder than the other, it's just elitism claiming otherwise.
i just want to say how amazing it is that you can play high end raids with all the effects.. because i can never for the life of me do that T.T
Edit: my eyes will bleed (not literally though, probably a lot of iris burn)
Easy vs hard has no place in balance discussions. People claiming MCH deserves to be lower dps because they're "easy" have little idea of what they're actually talking about.
11:15 Pretty much sums up the FF14 forums/subreddits in a nutshell.
Yeah all this about easy and hard is what made me stop playing BLM until I learned to just play what I enjoy. I now am a proud White Mage main that also plays a ton of Black Mage. (Also carrying healing as white mage and some people saying that's because I am using the easiest healer brought my confidence down for a while) but now I learned to not let that affect me. As long as I do a good job that's all it matters to me ^^. Not only the gameplay makes me adore both but also the style, the fact I love them in other FF games and their lore in this game (war of the magi)
White and Black Magic for life <3
Simple Message: "Get with the FFXIV community program; where toxicity is the bottom barrel of content and shallow brains, or just get a static team where you can talk shit and they eat your literal shit"
Ppl keep shitting on mch yet I keep being #1/#2 dps on all my partys π
Coming from a ShB DNC main and EW SMN main, these jobs are easier than others to play imo. I don't know why you're taking a victim stance as if a description of the job's difficulty is a personal attack. Few jobs will highlight the next button to press on your hotbars the way SMN and DNC do. I'm ok with that. I have fun playing both DNC and SMN regardless of the fact that the skill floor is lower to play competently than say MNK.
I've yet to face discrimination in static recruitment or PF for playing a SMN instead of a BLM or DNC instead of a MCH. I'm not saying these issues don't exist, or that my experience is representative of everyone's; but I am saying I don't understand why you seem so personally upset by these jobs having a reputation of being "easy" to pick up.
It'll still take skill, fight specific optimization, and co-ordination to parse 90+.
I play Samurai and Gunbreaker because they are fun
