This is weird. I was just talking about this with my hubby an hour ago. I also thought it was funny also learned that people thought that it was all about ERP but I didn't think about it that way.
I mean, the mansion did have ERP rooms, but the event was a success. They maxed out the housing server, it was a good time, no one crashed it… for such a drama and controversial moment, it was a huge success for the RP FC and Venue behind it.
Ahhh the Final community is such a dumpster fire. I loved the idea with the billboard and wasn't surprised that the yoshi p knights where angry. 1. yes ppl are using mods and yes they can get banned for it but let that be there problem it doesn't involve you (to anyone saying that the producers could enforce there rules harder because of that i don't think so its such a huge part of the community and the amount of players they would be loosing with it wont make any sense financial. Money is the thing they are caring about the most) 2 the datamined outfit was leaked weeks before so anyone that has anything to do with final on social media (where moste ppl also saw this billboard) would be spoilert much earlier then this. 3. The erp thing is like serious did anyone visited limsa or the quicksand in the last years? There u get the same amount of erp in real time like there where on the dc server. Player can shout through the hole game any night for gambling and erp but with the billboard pls think of the children. xD
Iirc the uproar wasn't just because of add-ons used to make the billboard, but because of the modded characters wearing unreleased datamined, along with the SE copyright somewhere on the billboard. It caused people to worry this would be the metaphorical straw that breaks the camel's back, or in other words they were worried SE would see it and start cracking down on mods. Nothing did happen in the end and the event was apparently quite fun, but it still rubs people (myself included) the wrong way considering what could have happened.
All's well that ends well I suppose. Doesn't seem like anyone else will try it since the people who bought the billboard got absolutely DRAGGED on twitter.
I think it's funny and stupid, but I think the bigger issue wasn't the third party mods or the data mined content that hadn't been released but the fact that they branded it as though it was an officially licensed and sanctioned event. Like if someone didn't know better and saw that (especially since it's traditionally only companies that advertise on billboards, not individual dumbasses) it would look like this was a promo by SquareEnix for the game. And that's a problem. And, you know, not legal. Square didn't do anything but roll their eyes, but they would have been within their rights to pursue legal action against all people involved in the purchase and display of the billboard.
And it just makes NA players look bad, and stupid. And I think that's why people blew up with such vitriol and made fun of them so hard. It's wasn't "omg mods, gasp!" It's was, "you're stupid, and you're making us look bad, stop it."
People who had/have a problem with the billboard are cringe. "Oh no our lord and savior yoship said no mods so we should be absolute toxic membere of society and attack people who mod our virtual world. Even tho our lord and savior yoship has seen mods be used in game and has said the only reason he says all mods are banned is because he doesnt want to define what is and isnt because he know people will bitch and moan about the ljne"
Club Rain had/has ERP services, like most nightclubs, that you actively have to book and pay for. FFXIV actually has clauses in their TOS which allow for ERP to consenting parties when in private, so it's not really an allegation. Ultimately nobody got hurt or banned and they actually caused a slight rise in population as people actively created accounts just to see, resulting in some players sticking around when they enjoyed the event.
The Datamined & Modded content was silly to put on display but hey, it was a helluva way to get new players.
I visited this event. Thousands of players mostly just hanging out there.
Just a Fun time, did not see anything mischievous happening.
I think the FC leaders got banned? 😂
I think there's probably some legality issues with paying for advertisment for an in game event but I'm not a lawyer
Lmao if that is drama idk what else to say 😂
wasn't it a erp allowed fc that hosted an entirely sfw gathering? I think that's where the erp rumors came from
Most people were mad because they used modded character and data mined items on characters

I think this was fantastic….I mean who else has ever done this ?? 😅
Hey if they wanna pay 20k for a billboard ad more power to them.
I know DJPotate got hurt by it and got some allegations, poor girl was just on the board.
Having “add-one” in a billboard is like complaining people are using photoshop on their ads. It’s weird.
Not only did the billboard include modded content it also included datamined content as the summer gear wasnt available at that moment.
But the biggesg problem was the official Square tag making it look like it was official sponsored by them…
Still one of the more funnier situations.

I love ffxiv but hosting something like that to the public is both cringe and hilarious 😂
