coming up with bento the benevolent has been one of my favorite things about this channel's journey so far 😝
edit: also i do now remember lucia telling us about her sister on the airship. totally forgot so thanks for refreshing my memory! see, one of the benefits for having a bad memory is that i can almost enjoy a lot of my favorite things like it was the first time since i tend to be forgetful haha 😅
Hey another cool video :). I must say thought character dives like this would benefit alot from doing the raid storylines, if you are going back through the game in NG+ i would reccommend getting a few lv 90s to run you through them for the character development and story if you dont want to commit to a raid night. Coils lays the foundation for alisaes growth through the entire game. Alexander(HW) and Omega (SB) and the optional SHB dungeon the twinning are crucial to how 5.0 happened (bellular has a great video called a mind-bending masterpiece that covers it.) this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to optional content….yes….so much left for you to see 🙂 have a good day and keep the vids coming.

Wow, great job organizing all of this! Really enjoyed hearing your input on all the ARR characters. I had very similar thoughts about Moenbryda. To me, it felt like the first time a character broke the formula set by ARR. And I'm not saying those characters were bad, but she seemed a lot more dimensional and was refreshing despite the short amount of time she's in the MSQ.
As for Merlwyb, I love the comparison you make to a real world person in a position of power. She'd be great to shadow 😂. It's rare to find a leader willing to hear an opposing viewpoint yet still responding with grace.
And as for Livia, she too was my least favorite. From a character standpoint, her motivations were unclear. I do feel like validation can be a motivation, but in her case, I don't think it was explored enough. And if it was, it was overshadowed. As for Lucia, I do remember I made that connection in HW. I'm not sure how, but I think there's a moment where she talks about family or a sister on an airship in HW? I could be wrong 😂. Anyway, great video!!!
Yeah, Lucia tells you on an Airship during Heavensward when she tells you how she came to Ishgard.
It's always funny to me to hear people's opinions of Alphinaud in ARR because when I played through it, my brother was the only other person I knew who played FFXIV, and he was trying hard not to influence too many of my opinions. I was stunned to find out later that people hated him in ARR. I absolutely LOVED ARR Alphy and he was very much the biggest reason that I even made it through the base game. Every scene he was in brought me back to the story that I was struggling through. That's not to say that I didn't see his flaws, because they were very apparent, but depsite that, he was very easily my favorite charater at that time in the game, and finding out that we got to go solo with him in Ishgard hyped me up so much for Heavensward!
P.S. I also really liked his original VA and was so worried about the change over in HW, but can happily say that they're both great 😃
I think you should do videos as you progress. Seeing your opinion on characters evolve for each expansion is fun to watch.
I just have one question: Are you just doing MSQ characters or also side-content characters that appear in Alliance Raids or Normal Raids since you didn't talk about G'raha Tia?
This is a great recap of the characters in ARR. I did not know there is background info in the books on these characters. Now I am really thinking about ordering them… Do you recommend the books now that you have had time looking through / reading them? BTW, I really miss Moenbryda 🙁 she is one of my favorites from ARR, her story was way too short, but very impactful at the same time.

Not only does Lucia explain the whole thing with Livia, but its voiced MSQ. Definitely hold off on doing other character analysis until you finish NG+.
Regardinghe thing you mentioned about Gaius' voice betraying his intent; Bare in mind, this was first arc after the team totally rebooted everything. Voice direction was kinda shite early on. You know it gets much better as you progress, as the crew became better versed in the work and they hired actual actors instead anime voice actors.
And the whole thing with Gaius and Livia is mad even worse by one little line… "My chamber. One hour."
Gaius has a line where he tells Olivia to meet him in his chambers which always made me think they were lovers so to find out he’s her adoptive father makes that line soooo much weirder haha

Cid – “This feels right even if everything else feels wrong” is something I understand this sooooo much!! My move to Japan was actually supposed to be delayed until NEXT spring, but I got a call from my company in April about a sudden opening that would only give me a month to move. That sounded insane (and it absolutely was, moving countries is a lot of work especially with a full time job taking up most of your day) but I knew I had to do it. I’m your age and I’ve been ready to feel like my life is actually starting for so long. I knew in my gut that this was something I had to go for, even in the short window of time I had. And five months later I can definitely say it’s been the best thing for me!
Thancred – SAME HERE I totally forgot that he starts off so flirty. When I saw this while replaying recently I was laughing so hard at this like oh, okay then 😂😂
Alphinaud – I’m looking forward to your video on him 🙌🏼 When you originally mentioned you might make a video just about him on stream I was so excited then, still excited now haha!
Admiral – Shadowing her would be soooooo coooool!! 😳😳😳😳
Nero/Livia – “Cid is living rent free in his head” that made me literally LOL. YOU BLEW MY MIND WITH THE LIVIA AND LUCIA THING 🤯🤯🤯🤯 Man maybe I should get those books, sounds like they have info I would miss out on otherwise!! I don’t remember that being mentioned at all in the game, but also there’s So Much All The Time I don’t know how anyone can remember things that come up once or twice 😭😭

The "such devastation" line in Japanese seems to have a completely different vibe. I don't speak the language so I can't know for sure, but to me it sounds much more appalled and remorseful.
easiest way to separate the patches is you'll get an achievement at the end of each.
Nice video, but I think that Thancred was already taken over by Lahabrea in moment what you mentioned, because I'm 100% sure that he had that moment extra necklace. Not any huge. So that is really easy miss and that necklace get destroyed in that one cutscene.
35:04 While you're on the airship with Lucia, after she intervenes in the Regula van Hydrus fight (HW MSQ), she does reveal her loyalties and her family explicitly.
The Gaius and Livia relationship, despite being father-daughter in the lore, is actually questionable. There was a scene I missed my first time playing ARR and then took in when I was playing it again on my Alt character, where he turns to Livia and says “my room in 30 minutes” or something along those lines. I’ll let you figure out what that was implying… plus that speech from Livia where she’s all “his body and soul belong to me” 😂
