That wall of gobbues are players and their mounts. They formed the great gobbue wall which was actually made into actual game lore by the devs. Im sure there is a side quest in eastern thanalan where you can visit a deceased gobbue at (x20,y24) and a npc gives some detail about warriors who rode on gobbues who protected uldah during the fall of dalamud.
Its been ages since ive checked but its such a cool thing the devs did for those 1.0 players.
The thing to keep in mind: the storyline from 1.0 that involved the Garlean Invasion, the dropping of Dalamud, everything involving Nael Van Darnus and that whole story, that eventually culminated in the End of an Era cutscene, that whole storyline was put into play AFTER the decision was made to nuke 1.0 and start over. Hildibrand also made his legendary debut during this time, in the adventure that culminated in him being catapulted clear to Dalamud… and then back to earth. He would next be seen a full five years later… during patch 2.1 of A Realm Reborn.
And yes, that was The Great Goobbue Wall, an event that actually got canonized into lore within the game.

What they pulled off with 1.X into 2.0 to today is nothing short of a miracle
Everything that could’ve gone wrong did and then some
