There's a fun little side quest that pops up near Meghaduta that gives more insight on the Fiends. I recommend doing it.
And I believe the one Golbez killed was this world's Watcher, but I could be wrong.
Black Mage in that fight would just make the entire place smell like burnt hair, which is awful.
Also, there is an EX version of the fight. Some friends wonder if it was designed to actually challenge YoshiP, who mains BLM and is one of the best in the game. :3
This whole section of the msq was partially ruined for me due to the hyadain version of the four fiends theme. Associating the theme with that version just drains out all tension and seriousness….
Golbez was slaying the moon watcher on the thirteenth, with the Zodiark prison in the background, implying he has already taken that stars Zodiark powers.
Barbariccia (and the 8-man raid) is the epitome of the devs going "You've played this game for a while, you should know how things work, we've given you all the tools you need to know how we're doing things. Time to up the ante now." to the community. It's wild how hard and fast that trial was. Looking forward to what they throw at us next patch…
55:16 Y'shtola gave Zero the "Several cutscenes will play in sequence. It is recommended you set aside sufficient time to view these scenes in their entirety," warning.

I honestly love the mocap and eye tracking for Zero, the amount of emotion and seeing into her head it adds from just a few flicks of her eyes as she's reacting.
Pure speculation….
I think Zero will be the Zeromus we have to fight but instead of being consumed like Vauthry, the darkness is pulled out of her for whatever reason and becomes a second entity, taking Azdaja as a host. Probably due to finding out she is Cecil and Rosa's daughter, Golbez tries to use her to bolster his own, but he over estimates his own strength and it overpowers him. Wouldnt be surprised to find out Xande was pulled into the void after his failed alliance with cloud of darkness and was ultimately absorbed by Golbez with the Cloud escaping their fate until later. We manage to defeat the Zeromus manifestation and a wounded Golbez escapes through a portal on the moon which leads to Meracydia, leading to the next expansion. Of course that would probably be the *.5/*.55 patches, *.3 will have us fight one Archfiend, most likely Cagnazzo who will be betrayed by Rubicante to gauge our strength before facing us in *.4, all the while exploring the void and expanding our influence. This is all speculation on my part, and should be taken with a grain of salt.
This was definitely my favorite trial in Endwalker thus far. The others were cool from a thematic standpoint but just as an incredibly fun and fast paced battle this one takes it for me.
The new trial was really fun, and it's Extreme version is even more chaotic. Looking forward to the next trial.

While we were fighting Barbariccia, Zero was up in the air with the scions taking care of the minions until the end.
She probably hasn't had to fight that much, all at once, before.

After finishing 6.2, do the first yellow quest you see when leaving megadutha, it's a nice bit of backstory
I suggest you do the 6.2 Megadhuta side quest. It's amazing! BTW have you done 6.15 Omega quests? Those are incredible and tear inducing.
The rush and the excitement while playing as BLM in this trail is awesome 🤩
Did you guys do the side quest that becomes available from the guard in Meghaduta when finishing 6.2?
