  1. I just started Dawntrail (decided to reply story after finishing Endwalker) and Woke Lamat is already totally uninteresting to me. Not to mention I’m annoyed a dude voiced a female character. They couldn’t find an actual woman to voice her?

  3. The voice actor for Wuk Lamat is not a good person. They led an attack campaign against another voice actor because "Cisgendered voice actors should not play trans characters". Then started encouraging harassment and brigading to get an innocent girl fired for being normal.

Fast forward to now and the VA, a transwoman playing a cisgendered character and she tweets "I know I've said it a lot but god I am so happy I get to play this character. Trans girls get so royally screwed over in this industry because of our voices that I didn't think I'd ever in my life get to play a cisgender girl in a JRPG"

Then there was "smile". For anyone that doesn't play FF14, the new expansion has a musical track that is played three times during the story. It is a terrible Disney sounding track that is the sort of thing they would play near the end of the credit role when they know no one is still in the theater. It has a harmonized chorus and aside from the fact that it sounds completely out of place, the audio sampling is terrible and it's so wordy the vocals come out as a garbled unintelligible mess. The song is called Smile, feel free to look it up. Personally, I could happily go through life not hearing it again.

Sena Bryer tweeted the following: "I've kept a lot of my spicy hot Dawntrail takes to myself both for personal and professional reasons but this one I'll let slip.

Smile is straight up Black Gospel music, and the fact that it's getting a lot of hate from "certain sections" of gamers? Probably not a coincidence "

The song is NOT "black gospel". Not even close. Race card thrown by someone not of that race after the previous baiting failed? Typical.

This person deserves a large amount of the backlash that is being given. You pick a fight, you get one sounds pretty fair to me. Scummy.

  4. I interpreted Wuk's character "overshining" the PC was that the PC wasn't just holding back, but they were sitting back and letting Wuk do her things. Just prior to this expansion coming out, the story line was kinda moving towards a "We've done way more than our part, its time for a vacation and a break", and even after this expansion's story was in full swing of things (near the end), it still kinda had that feel to it. One of the biggest things that supports this, was that the Scions didn't even feel the need to join back together again, and instead were even excited about some friendly competition. The Scions are going to come back together far, far before the PC has to brings out their A-game.

Additionally, the previous expansion was End Walker… which was a conclusion to the FF14 story arc that started all the way back with A Realm Reborn. Dawntide's primary purpose, storywise, is to lay some ground work, to spread some story hooks around and begin some character's story arcs. My expectations were lower for this expansion because a) how can you top ShB?…. ok sure EW is a very good candidate… but how can you top both of those one after another after another? That's an unrealistic expectation; and b) for the following several expansions' stories to get anywhere near what ShB and EW's, its going to need a lot of setting pieces up, just like how ARR was largely pretty boring story-wise, but it was required to set up for the massive success of the stories in HW, ShB and EW (sorry SB, you know your place).

  5. I knew there was a reason I stopped playing FF14 a couple of years ago. lol
That community felt like it constantly towed the line between fully-woke and almost-woke. It was weird. The game itself was okay though.

  6. Ever since the announcement of the VA's gender I been watching em to see how crazy stuff gets. The only proof of harassment theh have shown was a list of Republican newsletters on their professional email with the dates cut out of the picture.

This expansion has been the most disney stuff ever. From the story, the theme song, MC syndrome of Wuk, all the way to the VA throwing a hissy and crying their critics bigots rather than admitting they need to do better.

  9. Honestly it feels more like Square Enix told Yoshi P to tell players to stop 'bullying' (it's more like harsh criticism but there is evidence folks have imploded with rage and have said some things that should be given more thought) the VA who plays Wuk Lamat English who also happens to gaslight people on a regular basis while emotionally blackmailing and abusing people for 'picking on a minority'. It's a below-average actor and an unpleasant person, and I haven't even touched on the 'identity'; we have a few of those already circulating the entertainment industry and one of them is Brie Larson, except we have the displeasure of seeing her face more often. If you decide to get into that boat, you sink with it. No bullying about it; that's consequence, and I'm not going to be compliant to someone's (the VA's) mind games.
