Ginger cancer LOL
I only criticize story skippers who say the story is bad because they don't understand what is happening. Otherwise play the game how you want.
I’ve played since 2013, I preordered ffxiv have the minion for doing so, I have my beta key somewhere on my mogstation profile I think? (Just went to look. Now I don’t know if it’s there or not I can’t find it lol) I skipped the story from the beginning and I still skip it on occasion. I liked the game, I played the game. Really put off by that. I hate it that you feel like you can’t speak. This whole thing leaves a bad taste. I’m sorry mate.
this is why i try to not get attached to bigger streamers because often times they don't realize the "influence they can have over so many people and it brings drama over literally nothing. It happens with the story skip argument as well as raiding and many other aspects… It's just sad, really, that people are ready to rally up on these useless arguments.
Story skipping should not be criticized as much. We're now two patches into Endwalker, that's so much content to go through. For a new player that comes in with hopes of taking part in something like Abyssos that just came out, their only viable option is to story skip in order to make it there with enough time to engage with it. A healer in my static shamed our future DRK because he's doing exactly that and that's not okay.
I used to like watching Zepla a lot up until her content felt way too much like an Asmongold stereotype and less like an actual person.
My two major criticism about 14 have always been that the balance between gameplay and reading story is horrible, specially now that you don't need stop and level up for msq as a new player and the other one is why a subscription game have a cash shop and how a mount cost 75% of what an expansion cost. Is illogical and I will die on that hill lol.
Gonna be perfectly honest…I haven't seen this alleged surge of unpleasant behavior. Most people are just as friendly as positive as they were years ago. Perhaps you are seeing a greater concentration of stuff because you are content creators and I'm not. Perhaps there's more going on and I just don't see it. But I have repeatedly seen plenty of people positive about all sorts of things and almost never negative.
I see lots and lots of diehard FFXIV fans criticizing ARR and Stormblood. I see people debating, often in a very civil way, whether Heavensward was actually better than Shadowbringers, or whether Endwalker is an improvement, a downgrade, or more or less on the same level as ShB. I have on several occasions had people be much more gracious than I expected on the subreddit, and I almost never have people be so crappy that I just never want to talk to them again.
It's a spectrum and overall I find most folks are much more positive than negative, and even those who aren't mostly positive are generally just…people, not particularly good or bad.
This whole video was extremely condescending and is a good example of why a lot of folks don’t like watching you guys.
The game covers all kinds of players, story skippers are cool as long as I can have fun with em raiding!
You only spill tea if you’re hands aren’t steady…
Sry to say this but streamers are the root of a lot of this drama. Not all streamers but a lot of them. A lot of people seem to have so little capacity to formulate their own thoughts and opinions on topics, they just echo what streamers say. And a lot of the time streamers are entitled arrogant children, they say 1 misinformed statement and their audience just runs with it. It’s insane. Use your own brain
haven't really seen this level of extreme behaviour in game itself but I do see it sometimes in twitch/reddit/twitter. That being said I've literally never seen anyone call ARR perfection lol, even the twitch viewers watching streamers play ARR all make fun of it and say "just wait till Heavensward".
I wouldn't take Zepla and her chat seriously in this situation because she was just joking. You guys are making this a far bigger deal than it really is. She wasn't trying to invalidate you as a person or something, she was just playing into the cult leader persona she's created.
comming from australia,i love this convo
I used to follow Zepla, i stopped months, maybe even over a yearago because of her drama and judgments, regardless of her occasional decent post. I get more stimulation and satisfaction elsewhere. Thats the T.
Regarding the repetitive patch and content cadences – as a father with limited time, it feels really comforting to know exactly what and when I'm getting in an FF expansion after I finish the story content.
Can't believe anyone could even say 'ginger cancer' and actually be serious that anything of the sort even exists.
While I definitely believe that if you skip the FFXIV story, you're probably in the wrong game, I also do not understand why anyone would care how another stranger plays/enjoys the game. Skipping the story is like going to a steak restaurant and refusing to eat the steak and only eat the salad. However, it's their time and their money. Whatever. Going all Taliban on the issue and thinking you can force anyone to enjoy the game exactly like you do is, at best, blind arrogance.
Having differences of opinion is one thing thing; How you express them is quite another. It's one of the differences between a child and an adult. If an adult can't understand that then they are in for a rough time in life. If someone is throwing a tantrum like a child, then they probably are one or have the mentality of one. There is no point having an adult conversation with that person. You might as well try to teach a dog philosophy. Tell the kid to come back when they learn how to communicate like a semi-intelligent adult, then you can have a conversation. It's not your job to be their mommy or daddy.
People should not care if others skip. Here is what angers me, when people skip then ask hundreds of questions on HOW to play the game. Had a skipper in my FC and asked where was PVP and I told them den of wolves. They said they would ask real mentors then mocked us for telling them where it was. They wanted us to hand hold them while they unlock it. We ended up kicking them because they wanted drama. We had a few other skippers and that is okay, I just let them know if they skip I will not help them when they ask HOW to play the game. If you are in EW and have no idea what a blue quest is I am sorry but you are on your own.
I don't mind if people skip the story, my issue for years was the people who skipped it than tell me it does not have a good story or it does not make sense. When I went to explain it to these people it was good and explain certain parts you got the omg no, no, no ,no it's not good and you like bad stories or ff11 was better but they never read the story of that game either. I don't agree with many of the takes as regarding toxicity. People can choose not to go to reddit. I don't agree with a fair amount of the content creators.
i occasionally troll people in FF14 and say they are posers and not real fans because they never played any other game on the series.
it is a joke, it is a joke, i love you all <3.
I don't see a lot of the drama, I hear people talking about it but in game I don't see it. My hobby is playing games and FFXIV is the one I play the most, really love the game and really dislike some of the things I think aren't working right in it but I want to enjoy myself and how other people are enjoying the game is their business as long as it's not messing me up. I've never understood why some people have to make a huge commotion over the different ways people choose to play the game. I suppose streamers are going to see the "ugly" way more than I ever would and I sorry y'all have to go through that but it's kind of how the social internet works. >.<; I enjoy your content and thanks for the video!
I will say Yoshi-P has earned my loyalty over the years. I don't think he or the devs are perfect, who is? I feel they have passion for the game and care very much about the players but I do worry the part of the community coming out with guns blazing every time something goes wrong may begin to robe them of that passion and care. You can voice your thoughts and concerns without being hateful whether it's with the devs, content creators or players. imo
Anyone got a link to the clip!? I wanna see it 😛
Chris is right when he says they are like a cult. They need to get out into the real world 🌎 from time to time.
"It gets good in 100 hours."
I'm hoping now that the Ancient Saga is concluded, what I'm hoping for(once the get enough post EW content built up) is the option to start at the very very beginning, or at 6.1 or 7.0 and have the produce a series of videos/cutscenes that you can watch or not giving you the cliff notes of the 10 years previous. That would solve the story problem i think
I highly suggest watching “The Truth about MMO Content Creators” by Josh Strife Hayes. He interviews several content creators for different MMOs and in one section they talk about “MMO tribalism.”
The quick synopsis is that MMOs seem to be more tribalistic because of the way they are designed to become virtual worlds that people live in, and as such become part of some players identity that they will fervently defend.
I think this definitely applies to FFXiV and would add that the infighting between different communities over which MMO is best definitely perpetuates the “toxic fanboys” for each game.
Some people have said that this video came off as patronizing, but the response from Brian and Chris here seemed to me like they were just poking fun at the haters.
There is a reason I choose to support their content, and not some of the bigger, more popular FFXIV creators – these guys aren't puffing out their chests pretending to be gigachads.
Let them joke about how childish the toxic vocal minority is, because at least they are still respectful about it.
Anyone asking for context, he's referring to Zepla. She has a created a cult of followers to insult and harrass those that don't watch MSQ. She may not mean it, but her audience sure do.
I don't think ment to affend you in any way. She just cares so much about ffxiv, the story and community.
been playing since XI and XIV beta phas 3. still skipping those CS baby! Also i hate watching zepla due to never hot takes and xenos just raids. Just watching copy pasted mechanics in a circle arena is xenos content for like 6 years. Plus he banned me in his chat for saying yosheep lol
Its almost like the players agree the playable content is bad and needs something new and exciting so their one counter argument is the story is why u should play ffxiv.
Another day of drama 14…
What happens when you have a population boom.
Hope the player base doesn't destroy this game and becomes the next WoW
