  1. Actually Playstation players usually also politely greet at the start of an instance. They either use the quick text autotranslate text option in FFXIV or PSN fast type to communicate. Most PSN FFXIV players have PSN compatible keyboards, controller microkeyboard or use the playstation phone app to type.

  2. I don't agree with the majority of the FFXIV community… I don't think that pulling WtW is necessarily dungeon etiquette. It is actually the way a good portion of the playerbase "Wants" you to run dungeons, however… You are part of a community, and from what I understand a pretty inclusive one at that.

This 'expectation' flies contrary to this inclusive community because there are people, for whatever reason, don't feel comfortable pulling WtW and it is not mine, yours or anybody elses to tell this person that that is the way they are supposed to play…

Its BS, and yeah yeah I know the old saying "You don't pay my sub" which I hate personally because it doesn't actually address the issue here.
    — This is the issue on this topic. FFXIV is soooo proud of it's inclusive and welcoming community… UNLESS, you break one of their rules, in this case, tanks must pull WtW or you are not following "etiquette", or "the rules"… which flies directly in the face of the "Most Inclusive and Welcoming Community BS"

If FFXIV is so damn welcoming and inclusive, that would mean you are welcome of and inclusive of people who have a difference of opinion on how to play in a dungeon or how to play their character.

If you can't be welcome and understanding of that, then you are not Inclusive and Welcoming, you are closed-minded and authoritarian. And the argument that "Well, this is an MMO and if you are playing with others, you have to be respectful of their time"… The exact reverse of the 'you don't pay my sub' BS… only it's "I pay my sub, so you should play the game my way"!!! Equal BS on that idea also!

Sometimes you will get a confident tank who pulls WtW, sometimes you will not… that is the nature of playing a cooperative game with millions of other people. You will get millions of different combinations and each one may be unique, and that is the fun of the game… the unpredictable nature of the experiences we come across.

Now, for clarification… I tank. Currently, I am confident enough to WtW pull on nearly all content. Sometimes I don't at the start of a dungeon if I see the healer is in a 'cutscene' because i realize its their first time in the dungeon, or if I see 'Sprout icon'. I sometimes even just ask upfront about the healers comfort level.

In the beginning though, I was very nervous and allot of 'Tank Anxiety', which sometimes comes back hard when I haven't tanked in a long time seeing as I have almost all my Jobs to 90 and it can be months between playing a role if I get hooked on playing another Job.

You cannot say you are a welcoming and inclusive game and community if you through social pressure force others to conform to your idea of how something 'must' be played. If I get into a dungeon and the tank is not WtW pulling, I just go with it. I'm playing the game to have fun, and I want everyone else to have fun too!
Now, if someone genuinely tries to help the tank through advice or just asking if they need help figuring out their role and giving them pointers on how to improve and they lash back with the good old "You don't pay my sub" than, they just don't care about themselves or the game. But, If they tell you they are nervous, or anxious, or just don't feel very confident with themselves yet… You take that as an "honest answer" and let them know you are here to help and we want them to have the chance to get better. I usually say to them, I am cool with giving advice and if they want to stop to ask questions or hang out after the dungeon run to talk, I'm cool with that. Many times people take me up on that offer and we chat a bit and share experiences and usually walk away from the dungeon feeling really good about it.
I only say that because that is what someone did for me. I was having a hard time in a duty. I had tried tanking when starting FFXIV and got tons of hate from people in dungeons for being so bad, so I quit and stopped playing tank. But some time later, I wanted to get my tank up to level 80 so I could participate in the ShB role quests and had heard that EW had a special quest at the end of the role quests if you completed each Role Quest (tank). I didn't have my tank leveled, so I started on that again.
In one dungeon, I don't remember which one tbh, there was a Dragoon who asked if I wanted to stay a few minutes after the run and he would give me constructive feedback on my run and how I did. That turned out to be incredibly awesome experience and that person and I still chat to this day, he has gotten into Discord with me and we even talk about other Jobs too!
I am getting better at tanking… I'm not great yet, but I can tank all regular content, have not even attempted any EX or Savage, but have managed to work through much of my anxiety I'm happy to say.

I guess my giant wall of text is to impart to people that just because Wall-to-Wall pulling is the community preference and yes, it does make the dungeon go much faster… that does not mean it is the 'Right' way to do things. Either it is the 'Right' way to do it, or the FFXIV community is 'Not as welcoming and inclusive" as it wants you to believe… because to be inclusive, you must be inclusive of others points of view and/or their playstyle… If you are not, than you are no better than people you claim to hate.

Saddest part is, I left World of Warcraft after playing that game franchise all the way back to the original Warcraft, giving over 20+ years to that game. I left WoW because the game was turning into shit, but mostly, the community had died and most of my friends had already left.
On day 2 I was invited to an incredible FC and have been in it ever since, going on over 1 1/2 years and have never been happier. They have taught me so much, we do so much together from holiday events (we just had a Halloween costume event), to running tons of content together and just hanging out together in Discord and talking.
The strongest part of this game is the fact that the community cares so much and the developers care so much… and WtW pulling is not as you say "Etiquette"… It is more like in your thumbnail, many FFXIV players think these are "Rules" that must be followed or you are just "Bad".
Sorry, there are few 'Rules' in dungeons. The only 'Rule' for a tank, is that they must use 'Tank Stance' since that is the very foundation of what their Role and Job is. Other than that, the Tank should pull to just past 'comfort' so they can challenge themselves, but they should not be forced to pull beyond that to the point that they suffer bad anxiety and destroy any and all ability to learn from the run or have any fun in the run.

Anyway, enough of my Wall of Text and my rant. I know I won't change anyone's mind on this, and I don't care honestly. I just find the irony in 'welcoming and inclusive' community… As long as you follow our rules and play the way we tell you to play… The irony and hypocrisy of that is delicious.

  3. When I pull wall to wall as tank I use provoke to grab mobs so when they arrive on me they are bunched up and I just AoE. I continue this as I go from pack to pack, I don't stop, I keep moving till the dungeon blocks me or I am up against a mob pack I know that can clap me no matter what, only experiance lets you know which dungeons have scary mob packs and thankfully it is only a small number of them in Stormblood and Shadowbringers content.

  4. LoL I love that black mage comment. My daughter plays a black mage and has the shirt even that says I am not moving. The only plus side is she usually is pretty good at moving out of stuff and using her teleport, mostly because she has to be aware she has me her mom following her around so if she eats aoe damage I am gonna do it as well and then her poor brother will have to heal and rez all of us. LoL Thank you so much for this video and for taking the time to share your thoughts.

  6. Yes, say hi, talk if you need to go slow or don't know what's up. The biggest one for me, not just in dungeons but in all content whether you feel you need to or not, get into a habit of using ALL of your kit unless it's somethinf that straight doesn't work in the content like don't cast Sleep on the boss or use Physick on SMN, other than that, use it ALL, DPS if you have a personal shield or mitigation skill, use it. Melees, you have self heals, Addle/Feint exist even on selfish DPS, and the one that hurts my healer soul the most, MNK players, use Mantra dammit, it's very strong and helpful even if the damage isn't that much, it helps so much, don't ignore utility lol.

  7. I was agreeing with you with everything, but when you touched on the black mage topic…. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. And no, I will not elaborate further.

  8. I had my worst experience yet today in the daily leveling roulette. Tried tanking again after a little break and lost aggro as the bard was pulling in front of me. Healer died and basically said I was trash in the none reportable way. They were a group of friends so they quit the dungeon.

  9. Pls for love of god get the healers to heal i am feed up as tank going to 20% hp every time because heal doesnt want to waste his godly reserve of mana . In a dung the tank and dps can handle anything and do enough damage you can do damage but dont forget your first job is to heal .If a tank or dps is bellow 50% hp and in the next 8 sec they get zero heal pls quit being a FUCKING HEALER you arent there just to rev but to heal dont stress 3 ppl because you wanna get a parse IN A FUCKING DUNGEON it not a savage raid the dps will handle anything trust in them .

  10. Totally agree on the etiquette. Your examples reminded me of the one and only person on my blacklist after a year and a half.

One point though, there really isn't a healer shortage. There is a pandemic of party finder groups crying because they're all 6/8 with no healers, yes. But they're all 615 item level restricted because the people starting them want people that have cleared the stuff only. They don't seem to comprehend that all of the 615+ healers are already clearing the content. The healers are there, it's just the groups blocking them out. Then the groups cry because they aren't finding a person with enough effort in their healer to reach 615 that doesn't already have a static.

  11. As a black mage main, please know where you are dodging. Don't come close to me and the layline when you dodge. Look before you leap. I often see other players making split decisions dodge and end up attracting more telegraphs towards BLM. They need to know that BLM ALWAYS moves with a purpose and for how long. We cannot afford to make split decisions moves like others can.

  12. Someone blacklisted me when i was on first-time-sage in Leveling roulette (low level dungeon), and he thought that i buy someone else's account. Bruh i mean chill it's just a leveling roulette not even savages. Now i left all my healer and not bother to learn, will only tank and dps because healing is hard.

  13. Using defensive or offensive buffs is not something that should be done wherever and however. Like I couldn't help but to facepalm whenever a player uses something like Divination or Technical Step when there are only 3 enemies left on the trash and we're next to the boss, lol.

  14. Adding some stuff i experience
    1. Tank even after you tank stance. Make sure you at least hit all the enemy once with either AoE or other attack since your DPS or healer can still steal the aggro if you didn't hit the enemy when you are using stance. Sometimes its also a good idea to just cycle through the enemy you pull very quickly just too check if any of your other party member got the aggro.
    2. For DPS and Heal if you get aggroed by mob. Just run to your tank. Eventually their AoE will take the aggro off you.
    3. For big pulling make sure you gauge your healer well. Like see if they can or cant handle certain amount of pull. Even better if you just ask them if they want big pull or small pull.
    4. For DPS if the boss have raid wide damage. Try to get in the behaviour to use mitigation (yes DPS have some sort of mitigation). It wont be like wipe or not difference but gonna make the healer job more easier and well they can dps more so boss killed faster.
    5. At the end of the day just communicate with each other. Veteran be nice to new player and new player dont be afraid to ask for stuff.

  15. Rule. In Sunken Temple of Qarn, skip the room where you get the items for the final puzzle, the head guys reset and you only have to fight one pack when you fail the puzzle as opposed to the two heads and two packs.

  16. Wall to wall, always. I don't care you're scared. Do wall to wall, you'll be fine.
Don't stop as a tank, or ninjas will poop their doton prematurely.
    Peloton. Do it.
    Don't commend healers.
