Creating content for Youtube is a job, it takes a certain skillset, writing, recording, editing, patience.

Livestreaming on Twitch is another job, and takes a different skill set, endurance, wit, and charisma.

Making videogame related content isn’t just about enjoying the game, it’s about entertaining the audience, and many, many people underestimate just how difficult it is, to enjoy a game for you, while streaming for others.

I very much enjoyed Asmongold streaming Final Fantasy 14, and I hope he continues, and I also hope he plays a secret character off stream, to fully experience the story without the pressure of an audience.

Thanks as usual to the Patreon supporters and Twitch subs for keeping the channel going 🙂

  1. I´m thank full I´m not a streamer becuse I want to enjoy the games alone and in my own damn time and not try to entertain an whole generation of ADD/ADHD kids that have a worse attention span than a dog.

I will keep saying this humans are devolving the new generations of humans have shorter attention spans, shorter patience and lack of common knowledge and is very prone than anger or get upset for no real reason.

Im not that old yet I have not hit 40 yet but the 2 generations after me well something has gone horribly wrong with humans im not sure if I shall blame media, technology or my generations lack of good parenting.

  2. This is why I never got nor really get the point of streaming ( for me ); unless you got a bomb personality and have played the game many times already on your own and know some interesting backround info about the game, there's no reason for me to do it(stream) or even watch it. The whole 'community' and engagement seems so artifical, fake and unpersonal to me I honestly wonder how people can enjoy it?

I enjoy well cut LP's and if it's more then 1 person playing I prefer it they're in the same room/on the same couch interacting with each other and not over the internet/multiplyer – you know, something like the early SuperBestFriendsPlay or early GameGrumps

Ah, but to each his/her own, I guess

  3. Uhh… I hope you don't actually use those colorful cups for your tea or coffee… They must be loaded with lead and cadmium… please be careful.

  4. Yeah, I hear what you're saying.. But Asmongold is the biggest bitch on WoW, so I have a really hard time feeling bad for him. I guess now he's the biggest bitch on FFIV, too.

  5. Yea, i dont like this Streamers meta for exactly same reasons. There are games where it doesnt matter, but story driven games suffer most.
Choice based games where streamer does choices based on chat suggestions, when many people in chat already knows what choices are "best", completely negates entire point of making choices. Its not case with FFXIV where choices doesnt really matters, but its similar in discovering things for yourself and not be led by people in chat.
And i absolutely hate when game offers strong emotional moment and Streamer has to thank for donations or talk about something irrelevant. Its actually sad watching that, to see what he or she is missing because those moments are unique.

  6. i'm a stay at home cripple trying to stream (avg 1-5 viewers lol) while working through my disability case (4 years so far) when i can muster the energy and it's exactly as hard as you discuss… it's hard to make jokes to an empty room and it's harder to think of the jokes while playing lol… hard to follow game trends to gain attention too

  7. The difference between playing a video game alone and streaming it for an audience:

The former is relaxing and enjoyable for the player.
The latter takes energy and is enjoyable for the audience.

  8. actually, streaming a mmo isn't the worst.
the worst is when you are streaming a game such as doki doki literature club/undertale/danganronpa with some kind of story you generally don't want to get spoiled and ask your chat not to spoil before the chat ignores it and spoils you massively, either intentionally, or by using private jokes from things that you don't know yet. (like for example, people spamming hanging jokes or "just monika")

  9. I despise Asmongold even though i never watched any of his stuff.
Why? Because youtube keeps recommending his reaction videos to me. Youtube recommendations being cancer concentrate, i assume Asmon is some kind of douche.

  10. Yeah, I gotta say, the points you made about what streamers try to do to keep audience attention is everything I hate about streamers. I've actually stopped watching streams entirely because the constant babbling and talking over cutscenes or plot points annoys me so severely. I really don't think they are attempting to entertain the audience at all. It seems like the behavior is driven more by pleasing the whales and keeping donos rolling in. Might make them money but it sure doesn't earn them any favor with viewers like myself. I imagine that doesn't matter much.

  11. This is the 3rd vis I've watched of you and you are still holding that fucking mug. I wish the camera would pan up for a second to catch you out cos there's nothing fucking in it. Stop being fake. You don't need mug props to be cool.

  12. Honestly why are suddenly so many YT/twitch entertainers starting to use catch-22 in their linguistic? About 5 years ago no one used that phrase until people in the political spectrum started using it.

  14. Honestly, I'm really too bothered by the large statistics of kids saying they want to be youtubers (though honestly it depends on the age range of kids saying it). I spent most of my middle school years wanting to be a Marine Biologist. … And that entire time, I thought of the job field only as the people who swim with dolphins in the Seaworld shows. Kids have a shallow perception of real life occupations.
A lot of kids I knew wanted to be actors or singers, only to later realize that their passions were what the actors were inspiring them to do in specific roles. Like actors being doctors, scientists, graphic designers, computer programmers, etc. By the time you get to college, you hopefully can start determining the difference between what you really find 'fun' versus 'fulfilling'.
Quick disclaimer: I do thing we all need to keep a close eye on social media and how it's affecting kids, at the same time. There's always going to be big societal changes that newer generations adapt to in ways older generations might be alarmed to see, but there are some psychological issues to be aware of. The internet is as educational as it is dangerous.

  15. Three words: My Summer Car

It's a troll game, so it's painful to play; but that makes it entertaining to watch. Seeing a streamer suffer is a form of entertainment (tragedy) that MSC has exploited. My favourite streamer refuses to play it again, since it's been finished, no matter how many of my viewing peers clamour for him to return to it. Me, i'm ambivalent about it – i want to see how it's changed (i'm definitely not playing it myself) but then i don't want the streamer to have to go through it again (for the same reason i'll never play it myself).

  16. I think I'm too old to watch streamers, im 28. When I used to PC game in 2004-2010 twitch and discord wasn't heard of, how do people find time to watch someone else play video games. Its fucking weird to me
