The vibe I get from Yoshi-P is this really awesome dad that gave his kids a crapton of chances, and those kids just took the Lamborghini out for a joyride and got caught on a surveillance camera redhanded. By that, I mean this recent world first race where groups were caught on-camera violating TOS.
Don't Ask, Don't Tell was in effect, and some people visibly violated the rules. So I hope it was worth it, because dad just loosened the belt and now we all have to watch our asses.😂🖕
Here's the thing about DPS Meters. They're fine by themselves.
The reason they're a problem in WoW is because WoW barely moderates their community. So personally I don't think there's an issue with them being in XIV
The thing about ACT is that there's a drama happened in JP community where a celebrity played the game and one of top raider harassed her due to her DPS output so they banned those raid group on the spot for a long time while they got unbanned now that group still get monitoring by the lead community manager to these day
i think they need to add party buff timers to the game and also chat bubbles at least.
about dps meters what bothers me is how are you supposed to do stuff like ultimate or savage without one if they are built around having a tight dps check?
i don't mind a dps metre that only tracks only your own dps . the problem with ACT is it tracks all and an official version of that would lead to counter arguments made against a report .
The fact that SE banned a guy mid pull in the new Ultimate because he had UI mods and a parser and IN THE SAME BREATH also said "we're going to see what people are using and add them to the game" is so mean spirited. That's such a toxic thing for a company to do.
Yoshi-P has explained in an interview at some point last year why they are so hestitant to allow any kind of add-on. The problem is that they feel it is a slippery slope of "You allow X, so why not addon Y" and then Z, and then even more… They have added the dummies in game so you can check, and prove, if you have the DPS to defeat a certain challenge in your role. And even with that it's easy calculating that if you kill the dummy in a timeframe what your DPS numbers were. They turn a blind eye of "Don't ask, don't tell" on ACT, but the true reason why they have to say "No 3rd party programs allowed" is that they're not blind… They can see the twitter posts of people who add model changing mods to their game.
They see the giant naked tits and the big dicks people add to their characters in place of smallclothes.
They also had to fight really hard to have the game have its age ratings the way they are now worldwide.
People will look for screenshots of FFXIV, and when they spot graphical mods that allow folks to pose with big erections they will question the rating and lodge complaints. And then Square-Enix has to prove that this is outside manipulation because every screenshot is so handily labeled with a copyright in the corner…
So the eventual rule is "No third party mods, period. (but don't tell us you are using them and don't be posting x-rated screenshots please)"
That's the thing. They were nice about addons until people decided to use them to cheat recently. Rules don't care about emotions or motive. Yoshi-p gave people the chance and people took advantage of his kindness. Now the hammer is coming down. Either way, it's in the ToS so people need to just deal with the consequences. This is why we can't have nice things.
the main issue is that MMO's now days are limited how much gear can affect DPS now as long as your wearing stuff for your level FFXIV even more so by having gear attached to classes the only way to really adjust is by materia and even then it is only really nosticable in the extreme and harder difficulty stuff and maybe PvP(need citation on that) WoW use to have so much gear one could get at various levels and the number of stats that adjusted DPS plus enchantments and then sockets and so on but now days it si more streamlined and only hardcore gamers and those who keep up with every little minor detail that adjusts DPS and who maxiimixe cooldowns and rotations ever really show superior DPS, and that is not even taking in to consideration the fact that DPS differs between classes and that some classes are low DPS and then produce a super high phase and then low again and some are just consistently mid ground so yer DPS meters are just a pandoras box to DPS snobbery and elitism and discrimination that FFXIV does not need.
On one hand – No, because players simply cannot be trusted not to be toxic with them.
Other hand – Yes, because they can be helpful for helping balance high-end content early on.
SE need to be WAY less tolerant of harassers if they're going to include them in the client.
I honestly don’t mind DPS meters to a point, as long as it’s used as tool for self-improvement. I do, however see them as a possibility to also gatekeep people to an extent. I remember running ICC back in Wrath, got kicked out of the group at the first boss because we were struggling to down the boss, and they decided to kick me out because I was the lowest DPS.
Great Video, as a founder of the Balance, yep. I use a DPS meter in order to figure out how well I'm performing in game. I think it should be allowed as well, since they put DPS checks. How does my group know how to improve if we fail the mechanic? Just guess and have everyone spend 5 hours throwing their heads at a wall? I just want to be able to use the meter to help my group. Nothing crazy.
No, Dps meters, lead to toxicity, we've seen this in WoW.
Here the thing it's not the DPS meter that's the issue. It's all the other stuff ACT does. It can call mechanics and safespots before they happen with triggers and also mark players for mechanics like UWU Titan gaols. Thus came to head because the RDM of Neverland thought it would be a smart idea putting his POV up with basically everything DBM does in WoW and the JP community was pissed this was the world forst kill. They have been on a mass report of anyone using DBM like addons/callouts as that's the connecting thread on each person reported and banned.
But this is also coming from Yoshi asking multiple times to just not fucking show/talk about them and they can't even do that. I also feel the WoW migration has also helped boost addons because of the mentality from there and it didn't help one of their biggest streamers not only flaunted his addons but helped pay for them to be "better".
I personally don't care about the meters themselfs but DBM like addons need to stay out-of the game. If you need a bot to hand hold you through every mechanic then personally just go back to WoW or something cause imo it takes all the fun out of the fights, especially if you use them in a static and take that away from 7 other people
I can see where you're coming from, and folks who use things like DPS meters to actively help the community are using these tools well!
Comparing my WOW experience to my FF14 experience, the toxicity is rare instead of the norm, which is refreshing. In the case of DPS meters, I have seen no toxicity of the sort – granted, I haven't done any high-end raiding, because I know how much numbers count in those battles, and that's not what I'm here for.
DPS meters like Recount make me wince only because of how unpleasant the WOW community got about it. At one point, I was afraid to queue for regular PUG dungeons because I was a fire mage, and it was a struggle to keep my numbers up. Group after group after group berated me for not only the low numbers, but for daring to play a fire mage in the first place! I finally did get Recount in order to practice, but in doing regular dungeons during the storyline, my attention was no longer on the lore (paper thin as it was in WOW), but on keeping my numbers up so that no one would have reason to insult me. It stopped being fun.
That being said!
Based on how story-focused the regular dungeons and trials are in FF14, AND based on the fact that folks have had access to DPS meters this whole time and not once have we had anyone call our band of sprouts out for low numbers, I can confidently say that, on the whole, players here ARE responsible and kind and understanding. Heck, just last night (or early this morning rather), we had been in the queue for Endsinger for over 20 minutes, but didn't want to end our session at such a huge story point, so my husband recruited players from Ul'dah, who were happy to heal our little band and help us sprouts make it! We messed up mechanics, slowed down our attacks to scramble to safety, but they were nothing but patient and encouraging, and were so happy to help us defeat it! If they had DPS meters, they didn't make a sore point of it, and just let us experience the rush of excitement for ourselves! It was AWESOME!
This is becoming more of a ramble than intended XD; BUT my point is, I think the FF14 community CAN be trusted to use such add ons responsibly. There certainly are some outliers, and they can be dealt with accordingly, but I hope things can be worked out for every WOL and their fair-to-use mods!
Whats funny is this addon thing didn't really start until the Wow players started coming from that game to FF 14 lol.
One reason there's a possibility of them looking into making something like dps meters in-game is because console. Mods and addons can be done easily on pc, but console you'd have to do some complex stuff to do that, which is why it could seem like using them would put someone at an advantage. I play on PS5 and don't do high end stuff, but I have fun playing and am simply putting my 2 gil in on the discussion.
My opinion on it all is this: No blades! No bows! Leave your WoW DBM and Meter crutches at the door!
Personally, I'd rather they not be allowed. I am perfectly fine with it being "permitted" the way it has been for a long time now. Share data and talk about ACT with other ACT users, but don't harass other players with ACT metrics or pressure them to download and use it. Also, don't be a total goober and stream with an aesthetic overlay you could have tossed on another monitor when you're streaming Ultimate prog. WoW has heaps and HEAPS of problems with elitism and toxicity and it can be found in the most moronic and asinine of places, like in leveling dungeons. I am fully behind Yoshi P trying to keep that nonsense from taking too deep a root in FFXIV. As our lord-villain Misshapen Chair has stated, nothing is so difficult you need to parse to clear.
DPS meter? Toxic?…. Welcome to Monster Hunter……
Seriously, while playing MH I've seen so many player get kicked mid hunt for not "reaching the DPS quota"….
On the other hand, as long that the the mod you decide to use is no affection others game, like cosmetic mod, or the meter it self I have no problem
