I don't like ACT because it's a third party thing and idk… GWA GWA GWA GWA
forsenCD
Meters ARE toxic however they are okay when everyone involved In a group agrees to use them. They should continue to be policed an absent outside of those specific cases.
I use ACT only for personal adjustements. NEVER bully the players for low dps guys, it is bad for the game!
Of all of your FF XIV content so far… this makes me want quit WoW and play this the most. 👍
Moral of the story, no one cares what add-ons you use as long as it only affects you. If you flame someone for their DPS or promote nude mods or something, then don't be surprised or salty if you get banned. It's honestly way better this way, track yours if you want but keep the toxic B.S. at home, offline.
Savix you are the voice of the invisible when you said DPS meter is garbage I totally agree with you.
I believe one of the reasons why wow has so many toxicities.
I think DPS meter is used for looking how your party is doing.
If you know your rotation, you know when you fuck up and there is no need for a DPS meter to realize it.
So I don't believe that anyone use it for themselves only…
On the matter of dps metres and discouraging new players from playing:
I encouraged my girlfriend (who has anxiety/depression issues) to play World of Warcraft with me like year ago, and we had really fun game on starting isle and then questing a bit in Azshara. I explained to her all the basics of movement and play, how to manage your character, bars and so on. She was really enjoying it
Then we decided to group up for random dungeon. She was playing hunter i was playing paladin tank so in case she would be dying I would quickly top her up
We were running through ragefire chasm and then after first boss, one player mentioned in party chat' hey this hunter is shit, kick her'
I asked what his problem is, and told us that hunter is not doing similar damage to him therefore it's a bad player
I politely guided him to considering option that she might be a new player. He neglected that.
And then he went on argue on party chat that if the hunter will not pick up with her dps, he will leave the group
My gf was in tears and asking me if she done something wrong. I explained to her to ignore this cunt and not pay attention to him
However, she no longer felt accepted and well in this community. One guy in party completely ruined our evening.
She never came back to WoW again as she was always telling me 'what if there are other people like that ? I don''t like doing something wrong'. She uninstalled WoW as she was so afraid.
Why am I telling this ? Simply WoW community (which i also belong to ) is SO OBSSESED with being the mf best and proving that they are the best and telling others they are not that they are pushing away almost everyone to have fun in this game.
FFXIV never had that issue, everyone is welcoming and very considerate. If someone is lost, they are eager to help and explain what to do.
Just wanted to share it with others that story.
The big takeaway here is that only the people who deserve to lose get dunked by this decision.
I've used ACT, mostly asking a friend using ACT, to measure my personal dps for improvement purposes, and occasional ribbing with my close friends on worthless aoe pull numbers. We never wanted to use it to criticize other players, because there are much better ways of getting the point across that aren't so confrontational.
If you use it, and shut your mouth about it, nothing happens. If you use it and abuse it on your fellow players, no matter your reason, you'll get the axe. That's a win/win in my book.
Yep, dmg meters are toxic. I experienced that in wow more than a few times.
I personally only use ACT to better myself with my own DPS/to practice openers and the such. I've never had any intent on shaming people about their DPS. Only time I've told others what their DPS is, is times when I've had it open while doing stuff and my friends have wanted to know how much they're doing.
It is. Alot of people rage quit farm parties if they dont get thier dps
As a tank i use ACT as some damage abilities are magic. You learn them and use your DRK abilities at that time. It also helps to know people in your static that need rotational help (i only raid with my FC so they take the help and appreciate it) ACT isnt used the same in ffxiv as it is in wow.
addon imo have always been about convenience like skyrim or wow makes it easier and more cleaner but if the game is already convenient and fun why bother with extra addons
the funny part of all of it, is that the biggest part of that tools are loaded with spyware, worms and netbot software, but people still thinking that a well hearted developer is doing it just for fun and for free….. right.then you see many players complaining about lag, dumbasses… some people never learn
The biggest difference between the two games isn’t so much on the inclusions or usages of third party tools/mods but rather the transparency of the stance the devs have on the matter.
Idk I really like DPS meters, DPS meter always helped me to try to get better at the game. If I see some other guy on the same class doing better than me rotation wise I ask him what I do wrong and how I could improve or it makes me look through the logs to find out what the other player did different from me.
Same thing with people who are doing worse dps. I'm always trying to find their issue so they can improve and give them feedback and its really rewarding to see them perform better in the next couple of pulls at a boss. Just don't try to sound demeaning. Just be nice to people about it.
I think the issue is more that WoW totally doesn't do anything about people who harass others. And WoW doesn't really make acting nice and helpful in any way rewarding.
DPS meters(ACT) are tools. Like with any other tool, people will use them for good and for evil. The hammer was invented to build stuff people need, but people also used this tool to kill people. The tool is neither good or bad. It's the way people use them.
As long as you don't grief your members you should be fine. They hate toxicity when it comes to people pointing out that your deeps is shit.
You will gain a 6th sense for not using a DPS meter. After years raiding without one, I feel like Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z. I dropped the scouter and now I can feel the DPS by seeing.
I actually always played with a calculator, i even used a calculator when i was drawing 🤔
I think the best solution is to ban third party users ''ACT'' and add an official DPS meter that only work when fighting practice dummies. No more toxicity, people can still calculate their numbers, fair to console players.
I'm using act, cause I like to know whenever I'm getting better and it's a way to tell me that. But I agree official dps meter has no place in the game. But ffs pls, add chat bubbles to the game. Saw ppl flame others who want it cause it'll make the game clutter too high… As if you won't be able to just turn those off.
