  1. Honestly, I adore Death's Design in terms of management with the GCD-heavy nature of the job but more importantly…how it enables certain Shroud tech.

Only, I wish it was a buff instead and didn't take up two buttons with the AoE variant. But I think it's got more interaction with the kit than people give it credit for.

  2. I like Reaper as a whole but I have some issues with it.

The biggest one being deaths design. To me, it doesn't feel like a fitting part of the kit. It rather feels like a button that's been added in the final stages just so you can have your own signatrue on the bosses health bar in form of an icon. It just doesn't feel right. If there was an attack similar to communio (sort of like a different finisher for enshroud) which, while doing significantly less damage than communio, also grants the deaths design buff, I believe the class would flow much better while also giving choice to the player based on encounters and granting room for optimization. As mentioned, Death's Design feels too detached from the actual kit.

The other issues are rather minor, like Soul Sow and Harvest Moon feeling awkward to execute and the job in general being a bit too braindead but other than that, Reaper is a great class with lots of potential for future expansions.

  3. I don't think how some jobs self-buffs work are especially great as they're basically something you don't have to think about. Jobs like dragoon or samurai, if you're playing the job even somewhat competently, the buffs aren't something you ever need to think about.

Which is why I actually like death's design. I also like that its a debuff rather than a buff, even if the net result would be the same either way. It's just different. I also like it more than say, ninja's armor crush or warrior's storm's eye as its not something you have to combo into. I do think its a little redundant though to have a single target and aoe version.

Personally, I don't want it to go away, but I would like the aoe and single target versions to just be one button. I'd only be fine with it being removed if they also stripped away personal buffs you're meant to keep up away from everything in favor of something more interesting.

  4. I really like how they approach positional for Reaper so much. While other melee are forced to use their positional, Reaper can just choose whenever they want to do positional.

And the gauge design that allow them to delay their burst without losing too much dps is also really neat.

  5. I picked it up at the start of the expansion and definitely enjoyed it. I haven't really played much since I hit 90 with it though. I mainly play SGE (looking forward to your video on that) and MCH if I'm playing dps (not sure why honestly, I think I'm terrified of the DRG rework and wanted to switch to a jon that can only get better lol), GNB if I'm playing tank.

  6. Love reaper, personally. If I changed anything it would be death’s design. Either I would make it a buff (at which point it might as well be a stance, which at that point it might as well be a passive)…

Or, I would make those skills which apply death’s design into oGCD’s on a 1 or 2 second shared cooldown with low/no damage, just so that it still requires buttons and management, but it doesn’t cut into my GCD rotations or effect my meter gain.

I personally also think it would be nice if instead of two skills that apply death’s design, having a single skill that spreads to nearby enemies when hit by aoe attacks would be better, still controllable for situations where you might only want to mark and attack one target, but one less button to worry about if area attacks are necessary.

  7. I think PvE Reaper needs to steal Death Warrant from PvP, tweak it a bit and use that instead of Death's Design. Yeah it's basically Wildfire, but I think it would go a long way to making the job more interesting.

  8. Death’s Design is what makes the optimization for RPR work. It works as a filler GCD if you’re in enshroud but need to move (so can’t hit communio) or if you have max gauged built up but need to wait a GCD to use it (ie waiting for Arcane Circle). DD is also what you used to “properly” set up double enshroud since splitting communios with gluttony will actually push the last communio out of your 2 min

  9. The death sign devuff is , like you said , out of place and useless. Since you always apply it , might as well remove the feature and increases reaper's damage by 10% permanently. Thats the issue with those kind of mechanic. Removing it wont make the job easier either …. its just useless paddinf in the tool kit.

Also to me, it feels like reaper deals 10% less damage than the other melee dps if the debuff isnt applied

  10. I definitely think Reaper is a good example of how well a Job can be designed, but only within the limited scope of their current Job design.
The game needs a very drastic shift to how people do damage, and use cooldowns, and how Job synergise with each other.
I do genuinely think limiting party wide buffs to a small number dependant on the Jobs itself would really help the game. Too much of the game is cramming as many buffs under a window, which currently is so small that any degree of player expression kind of falls apart, due to needing to keep within this small window. I think BRD/DNC/MCH could serve as the only Job with a direct damage buff and not overstay their welcome. But every other Job, including and ESPECIALLY Ninja.. its just.. its not it. Its not fun to play at an individual level.

As far as Jobs themselves go, they also need to work on unshackling the whole "hey everything has a 20 to 120s CD". The introduction of Job gauges and Charges on cooldowns was brilliant, as it did open up a level of flexibility that Job just didnt have. But they need to go further, and its frustrating when one of the solutions is constantly staring the player in the face… The MP bar.
Its completely useless to most non-magic DPS, minus Dark Knight and technically Paladin, but mostly DRK, you have MASSIVE amounts of room to hold, move, shuffle your OGCD positions within your rotation, to both fit a fight, fit a mechanic, change an opener, adjust for a tank buster, and you dont drift anything, because its just running on a steady MP bar that takes a decent amount of time to fill, and you can use it early or late or whenever with pretty high amounts of freedom.
If you apply that system to EVERY Job, suddenly Job become way more open ended. Being able to NOT use High Jump, and have it not matter that you didnt use it, because it costs say 6000mp or something, maybe make Life Surge give 1000mp back, idk, DRG completely changes in terms of when you can use Jump and how you use it.

Thats without any major new addition or sub system, which looking at PVP, we will likely see "personal Limit Breaks" be added into the PVE side of the game, which could solve alot of the "Buff dependant" fluctuating DPS issues where "Ooops, i drifted 0.7s 4mins ago, so i dont have this cooldown up right when i need it".

  12. My biggest gripe is fat-fingering another gcd when I have Gibbet/Gallows up, it hurts when I mess that up, since I lose a lot of damage with that; also just forgetting that they have positionals 90% of the time

  13. Really like the job but I don't really like Death's Design for single target, it's like Huton for Ninja for me, it doesn't feel like it adds anything and it doesn't feel like the job revolves around it like Black Mage so it does feel kinda pointless tbh.

  14. "i won't miss it that much when it gets taken out next expansion"
also Ilya: i won't they don't take out deaths design

not a bad job, i wouldn't main it myself, still leveling it past 80 now.

Deaths Design is nice, gives me that bit of management, granted it's basically just use twice to get the 1 minute and refresh whenever i feel like it.
feels like it could've been an trait orso, since it feels really storms eye like to me from Warrior.
where you basically will do that anyways, except it's not a combo just a straight up button.
