  1. Picto effective gets nearly 5 GCDs of uptime (12 seconds roughly casting) that no other class gets during downtime, something ultimates tend to have a good amount of. No other job comes close to getting that amount of advantage from downtime.

  2. Given my own internet, I scare the hell out of my static all the time. It will look like I'm one place when I'm actually another and safe from a snapshot. The joys of the North America server being located stupidly on the West Coast as far away as possible for a lot of people instead of being located somewhere more sensible.

  3. It's honestly just disappointing that despite community backlash and even comments from Yoshi P, we still have people going into a community run competitive event and going "you know what, i'm gonna cheat" and undermining the whole thing.

I couldn't care less about what addons people use in their own time but if you're gonna join in on a competitive event, at least have the sportsmanship to turn that shit off.

  4. Preach completely missed the point when talking about "the program used to make that happen..". Frosty is talking about dalamud, which you can use to load a ton of stuff with. Not the different ways you can color your dot lol.

31:05 also completely misses the point here. Frosty is talking about xivalex/noclippy which fixes a bug with the games netcode that makes you unable to double weave ogcds if your ping is higher than like 120. It has nothing to do with dodging enemy abilities.

  5. The only combat related Add-on I use is Combo, and it's only to improve the combat by lowering unnecessary buttons. Like, Dragoon's basic combos is 7 buttons. Condensing the combos down to 2 buttons (one for each combo) opens up 5 extra buttons on my bar to place other cooldowns and buttons in spots that are way more comfy to play with. Same with most melee and tanks. It's usually just to "PVPify" the melee combos so they aren't 3 buttons, but 1. It exists IN the game in PVP, and Viper/Picto HAVE this built in to their job in multiple ways. The only thing stopping them from doing it for other jobs is speaking out about it.

  6. On the thing of Pictos chart. Its not Pictos damage thats the issue, its the entire job flow/design is extermely good for the fight. Same goes for Bard and Dragoon. All 3 benefit massively from how the fight is designed. So buffs/nerfs wouldnt matter as its the fight vs job design thats the core thing and not the actual numbers

  7. As far as i could see, it isnt pixel perfect, pixel is only a dot under your character to see your true hitbox (altho i still wouldnt use it in a world race even if i think that on its own is very benign). According to reddit this is one called Avarice which might use pixel as a base, but does far more.

  8. Haven't watch video all the way yet, but xeno is right. Act is cheating. Noclippy is cheating, etc. It's fine if you want to cheat and realize you can be banned for it. However, the metal gymnastic to say your cheating is okay is getting obnoxious.

  9. If we equate using plugins to using steroids, do you want everyone on steroids? No because it's artificial.

I'm not denying that some plugins actual make a level playing field: NoClippy, Alexander, etc etc.

Even Logs are useful and not harmful.

But compared to the AOE showers, debuff, rotation helpers, etc, that stuff needs to go in a competitive setting or what's the point? To see who can use plugins better?

We like seeing high end game play because it's high end, the highest skill ceiling of players doing awesome shit. not 'oh wow, that plugin sure is showing them where to stand and what buttons to press'.

  10. The reason the screenshots you're usually getting are THOSE kinds of things is because THOSE kinds of things don't actually impact competitive aspects of gameplay performance. They don't impact the GAME part of things. They're JUST visual adjustments for the player and anyone with whom they share their optional connections. The stuff the player base is screaming about right now are the very sort of gameplay affecting tools that have led to WoW being a cesspit of required unpaid labor by players because if you aren't trying to optimize to the point of it not being fun any more, you're being rude and negatively impacting everyone around you.

Me? I'm so vanilla that I don't even have addons in WoW. I've considered it, but I don't want to run the risk of anything going wrong in FFXIV for me. If the game requires unpaid labor from the player base in order to function, something's gone horribly wrong somewhere.

  11. And since I'm commenting DURING my watch-through, the problem with Logs isn't that it's "cheating", no matter WHAT some reactionaries might claim. It's just not. The problem with logs and why they will NEVER be implemented natively in the game is because they are inevitably used to abuse other players. Without fail. Someone is dodging the aoes and doing sub-par damage as a result? Publicly humiliate, verbally abuse, and then kick. That's a BIG part of the problem with WoW and why I had SUCH an issue with doing ANY sort of cooperative play when I fled Azeroth.

Also, Picto's in that place in part because of the design of the job. Recasting the motifs during downtime, of which there's a TON in Ultimates, effectively frees up time when the boss is targetable to be doing damage. It's why recasting the motifs between pulls in a dungeon is such a big thing. They would have to literally take the job back to square one in design to try to change this. Potency changes are NOT going to do anything. Personally, I love it. But THAT is why they don't have a rez. All that AND a Rez Mage? Yeah, no.

  12. By introducing addons officially, the arms race is inevitable. So I completely understand the dev team's position, I'll be sad when they finally have to force a decision instead of leaving it fluid.

With tournament realm, you could also just use the world travel system and use existing characters.

  13. How I would define what is okay and what is not okay in my limited knowledge. Things that allow you review your progress is retrospect is fine. Things that enhance your experience in real time is not okay. I know there is still muddy water there but that's as general I can make it.

  14. oh just btw on the point about if they can detect. with the way they do it in ff14,yes they can. they are mostly literally messing with the games memory, thats why they can do ANYTHING.
they are literally modifying the game, and not just accessing the allowed API like wow addons do. this is why people really should stop calling them addons,THERE IS NO LIMITS unlike wow addons have. wow addons have very strict set of rules for them, set by blizzard.

they use the same path ways as bots and other hacks do.
unless they are doing some weird reading screen colors and stuff, to only project images on top of the client only for their desktop. like some of the weird combatlog reader stuff for wow.
but since ff14 allows all of the other non invasive hacks, like the glams, chat bubbles, etc.
its pretty hard for them to find out if its the game play affecting ones,or the harmless ones.(i know they are mostly affecting different parts of the memory, but you will get the weird edgecases)

  15. If people are willing to play on Windowed mode and smaller icons, anyone can emulate an ultrawide without resorting to add-ons or any tool. You just need to know the aspect ratio of what you're looking for.

  16. I don't get why people feel the need to cheat in this stuff. Like, is it to look cool? To say you're say you're so awesome cuz you beat the video game first? That's…really sad. Instead of using the red dot, why not just learn your positioning /forehead.

And that clip of Xeno reacting to…whatever that was. Why even play the game at that point? I honestly do not understand the point of completing a "challenge" by bypassing the challenge.

  17. Bouncing off of Preach's Tournament Realm idea and specifically how people would be "invited" to an in-person race, since Savage is the "faster" of the two types of HC content currently in the game, I think Tournament Realms that are monitored and logged by SE could be used as an "open qualifier" for teams to get officially recognized and a possible invite to an in-person event. On that note, an in-person event would still be expensive to organize, it requires booking a venue, setting up that venue with staff and equipment, flying teams out, etc and while people like to meme about SE being a "multi-billion dollar company", this would all need to be INCLUDED in FFXIV's annual budget which would mean either increasing it or cutting back on other things to make room. That means this would also need to be compensated with sponsorships and other revenues to offset the cost; we're already seeing them dip their toes into doing this with the PvP regional tournaments being wrapped in with FanFest. All that said, considering the amount of planning involved, I think only the Ultimate race should be in-person, playing on a release build of the fight but ahead of the live patch (say like a week?). Ngl, all this sounds waaaaaay far off because even the most generous estimates puts the CBU3 team at around 300 employees (from what I could gather, please update) and not all of them are exclusively working on XIV. A fairly sizable increase in staffing would be required which would further increase the budget, not to mention physical space constraints finding or making offices to accommodate, for something that is still, at time of writing, very niche within a still relatively niche game. All in all, I do believe that SOMETHING will give in time, but until then, I'm happy just enjoying a community curated race.

  18. A point I've heard about a streaming requirement, and one I agree with, is the idea of "I don't care about you if you're not streaming". There's nothing more deflating than watching 2 or more teams going neck and neck at the end and then seeing "lol hey guys we cleared it here's our screenshot" on twitter. Like, ok. Sure. You win. But I'm choosing to not care about you. And if information is the problem with that, and I agree that it is, then we can just add another unenforceable rule of "no looking at outside information until, let's say, a day after the first clear is announced." Kinda like jury duty (at least in America your mileage may vary).

That is, like I said, unenforceable. There's just no way to ensure that everyone plays nice. Too many people get too hard at the idea of them winning to guarantee a fair race. The invitational idea, imo, also kinda ruins the whole vibe because it's limiting and exclusive. Which I guess is kinda hypocritical for some with the opinion "I don't care about you if you're not streaming" to say, but shoot idk man.

  19. just to add no monitors or taping a dot don't achieve the same thing. when you rotate the camera, your hitbox won't always be dead center, so your fake dots won't always he accurate, but pixel perfect will

  20. My understanding is the Picture Perfect plugin shows exactly where your character's hit box is on the floor, no matter what your camera angle is. It's not just a red dot in the center of the screen, because that would only be helpful in an FPS game. So the plugin is super helpful in finding safe spots that are really small, which is obviously useful if you watched the FRU fight at all. A lot of teams had wipes due to misjudging whether their character was in a tiny safe spot or not.

  21. Not done with the video at 28mins in but wanted to put a couple of my thoughts down before I forget.

14:40 ish into the video I extremely disagree with this take. If you are going to go so far as using tools to emulate something in real life as cheating the flat out the real life counter part by default is cheating. It is ignorant or flat out malicious in my opinion to say that someone who has money can buy their way to an advantage but the person who can't afford the same thing is forced to suffer. So either admit both are cheating and that one you just cant fundamentally control which is okay or consider both not cheating. The argument for all of it is mute and and stupid until we can agree that you can cheat irl too.

Towards the 28 mark where I am at my personal opinion on mods is I give zero care if people use them for glam, QoL, or even boss encounters in PVE scenarios. Where I do care is it directly affecting me. So PVP and hunts are the two most notable examples. PVP people can script and have an advantage although it is very small for the community that does and has flaws so I mostly dont care there tbh. Hunts are the other area where people can be notified ahead of me causing me to miss an S rank. When we get to PVE fights like extremes though I would rather people use mods if it means they dont mess up as much when Im doing reclears. I party finder 99% of my content and I personally do not give a single care if they do. I know what I did to get my clear and thats good enough for me, let them sit on the fact they didnt earn it in vanilla as its their issue. Not mine.

  22. Pictomancer has a big advantage in FRU because the boss becomes untargetable multiple times as phases change. Unlike every other job, Picto can use this down time to bank future damage by drawing their pictures during this down time. Picto is tuned around the idea that drawing pictures is a time consuming DPS loss, but in the FRU fight that's not the case.

  23. Final Fantasy XIV will never be in a state where something like a race to worlds first should exist in a official capacity unless it is done in person and I am not sure they even should as just like Mike states it is too complicated for the average person to look at it and understand what the hell is going on. I am also pretty certain they have absolutely nothing with the exception of if you chose to upload your UI as far as data on their servers from your PC so they cannot detect your plugins without you self reporting and if they did chose to actively pursue getting rid of plugins it would hurt their bottom line as some of them report how people are using them and it exceeds the amount of people concurrently play the game on Steam.

  24. The issue with FFXIV is that people get caught using add-ons, yet some of the community still say they got WF because they think everyone cheats. I have always thought that competitive teams will do w/e they can get away with to win, but if you choose to cheat and you get caught you are disqualified. This is how it is with every competitive sport/game that I can think of and we never reward known cheaters with the win. Frosty is just settling the debate for his community-run races. World First will be given to the team that does not get caught using any of these addons. Adding the caveat that one person must stream because let's be real the amount of people that would even be interested in the world first if no one stream would be slim to none. They still might cheat but at least it's not known by everyone and SE can comfortably congratulate if they choose because no plugins are being allowed at all.

  25. I actually really simple why Picto seems to really exceed, they can utilize downtime to load spells in a much more effective manner. A short example: monk can only build chakra for a single OGCD when the boss is untargetable, while pictos can reload 3 spells they would normally need to complete a full rotation of spells for. It's not as simple as just potency reduction.

  26. It's unavoidable that some players are preoccupied with claiming 1st at any cost, integrity be damned. But they are losing sight of the bigger picture: The more legitimacy the race earns, the more sponsorship money and broadcast reach it develops, the MORE PLAYERS IT POTENTIALLY BRINGS TO THE GAME, which funds Square Enix to build a better experience for players through new types of content, better graphics, quality of life features we currently would need add-ons for, and more. "I got first so there who cares if I cheat" only cheats yourself, in two ways: if you're challenging the hardest content then be a hero and challenge it at full difficulty without cheats so you can be proud of what you've accomplished, and as well if you're cheating you're making the game less fun for others and diminishing the potential SE has to build features you desperately want.

  27. I like the tourney realm idea. Who cares if they just jump back to a live an clear again, it's just a cosmetic. So they get two cosmetics really quickly, and they then get to go complain nothing to do because they did everything within 24 hrs lol.
