  1. As a Fender fan, this probably means you've seen the special, limited edition fender stratocaster made in collaboration with FFXIV? With a special 'Limit Break' feature? It looks great. Sounds great. And everyone got a free in game version to play in game with the performance feature.

  2. You should listen to " Insanity " next which mixes "Insatiable" and the ShadowBringers main theme along with it's own unique elements. As people mentioned " Insatiable " is main boss theme for most bosses in the ShadowBringers expansion but not the expansions main theme. "Insatiable" is also the base or pillar of most of the tracks that follow for boss encounters.

  3. The middle guitarist is Soken – he's holding the FFXIV themed Fender Stratocaster which is pretty much completely sold out. They keep mentioning it has a "limit break" feature which basically means it has push/pull pod that turns on the bridge and neck pickups together – a humbucker strat.

  4. and there is the man Jason Charles Miller himself, if there is a guy that doesn't sound like he looks its him, but man I love his singing. the singes were not there for the show because of covid, the event was all remote. actually if you didn't see it before I suggest checking out rules of nature that is also sang by him. also he composed the themes for critical role and appeared as a guest in the show, so he is also a D&D fan.

  5. I'd say this version of Insatiable is quite similar to the one we get in-game so you've got a good pick to hear both the song and the Primals for the first time. This performance was at this year's FanFest which was done with no live audience so the entire thing was streamed world-wide for free due to Covid. They don't really tour (did once when they debuted but it was Japan and Seoul only) and usually just play Fanfests which they normally do 3 of (USA, Europe, and Japan).

  6. Soken is the one with the black fender. That guitar is a promotional item that you could (not sure if you still can? idk) buy. Also, Jason Charles Miller (the singer that is prerecorded for covid reasons) is from Godhead EDIT: Clarification.

  7. So for a change of pace, I'm gonna try to recommend two songs that you probably haven't gotten yet. Bloodsong and Revelation, both from Archeage and both by Invocation Array. Easily the two best things to come out of that game.

  8. You should definitely check out the entire FanFest 2021 Primals concert. It was a pretty good one, includes Soken introducing each member, and had some fun on-stage stuff.

Similarly, you should check out the FanFest 2021 piano concert with the pianist Keiko. Both concerts in full are absolutely fantastic.

  9. Man, I love it JRock and Vkei Bassists so much. They always do this thing where they do more melodies and riffs than accompaniment, to the point where you’d almost think the Lead and Bassist just switched guitars for the set. It’s so great.

  10. The Primals started like another band you should check: The Black Mages, where Soken’s mentor Nobuo Uematsu plays. However, SE decided to use their songs for the Ultimate version of the fights and now some dungeon (Long Fall). Well, and intros now too I guess, I love the Primals man.

  11. The 2021 fan festival had covid restrictions. However the dev team still put in all the work to make it the best they could, and instead of people buying tickets it was made free for everyone online to enjoy.

So the big hired stadium only had the cast and crew in it unfortunately, but covid completely shut japan down.

A better showcase for the primals live would be "RISE" where you can see the crowd going nuts

  12. So the other boss themes come from "Trial"-type duties, which are usually clean arena fights with nothing but the boss you have to kill. It's why people have such strong feelings towards those songs: You're gonna be stuck there with the music playing while you try and try and try to kill that one particular boss with that one particular song playing.
Insatiable is a generic "Dungeon"-type boss battle theme, where you have to go down a path killing stuff before facing a midboss and then continuing killing stuff until you face the actual end boss of the dungeon. The theme mostly plays on the bosses from the dungeons – with some exceptions.
Most of the dungeon you spend your time running from boss to boss instead of fighting the bosses themselves, and the bosses tend to last much less and be less complicated than Trial-type bosses, so it makes sense that they don't really get their own themes and instead get the generic ones. In my head, Trial bosses (And, well, also Alliance-type bosses, but this is unrelated right now) are about the strongest enemies you can face, and therefore they get their own theme. The entire fight, including the music, is tailored to who they are.

  13. Loved your react to this! Insatiable, like other people have already said, is a dungeon boss theme!
Jason Charles Miller, the vocalist, was in a different studio entirely but still live and was simulcast during the performance due to Covid restrictions. The same was the case for the female vocalist, Amanda Achen, who was accompanying Keiko!
I think I'll know to give you the Piano version of that from fan fest this month for patreon haha

  14. I fon't know if you take recomendations from outside of patreon. But i MUST insist you listen to civilizations from FFXIV and right after listen to soken's "Do you know La-Hee?" From the fanfest. It's like a oblivion / return to oblivion or Metal / Metal: Brute justice mode.

  15. Generally the only place you could probably see the Primals live is at Fanfest. All of the members are employees at Square Enix which is their main job, so there's not much opportunity to tour. They did do at least one short tour of a few cities in Japan and Korea in 2018 though, so you never know. Maybe after the next expansion releases they'll have some time to do a few live performances again. If you ever wanted to visit Tokyo or Seoul, timing it with a Primals concert would be pretty clutch.

Fanfests normally occur in the second year of each expansion's lifespan. The next expansion releases December 7, so it'll be at least early 2023 before there's another Fanfest. The normal pattern is to have one each in Japan, Europe and the US, showing teasers of the next expansion among the events.

  16. Soken was the guitarist in the middle with the special guitar. He does backup vocals. Michael Christopher Koji Fox (aka KojiFox) is the English Localization lead for FFXIV that translates all of their dialogue from Japanese to English and comes up with the English Lyrics for a lot of their songs is the Drummer and normally the lead Vocalist. The singer for this song Jason Miller was pre-recorded because this year and last year's fanfest were virtual and had limited attendance due to Covid. The Primals really are great though! 😁

  17. I believe one reason for the distant vocals is for gameplay purposes. Most ff14 songs have heavy vocal distortion, because they would expect players to be listening to the boss voice line callouts, as well as communication between players. This way, they can have vocals without interfering with player communication

  18. Ffxiv has fanfest, which this is from, basically celebration of ffxiv and news about next expansion (from what i know). They usually go in a few places i think? This year was digital and free due to covid. Which is a blessing for me because i can never attend those in person, and this will be the only one i will ever be able to see, it was nice. They did a bunch of the song live there, with the final one being titan's theme. Not a fan personally of the song, but it was amazing seeing Soken, Koji Fox and Yoshi P singing on stage!
