You know, it's really sad. 1.0 had these massive unused areas you can see on the speaker's network that were never used. Lots of caves and catacombs.

I'm glad you're watching some of the classic FFXIV YT videos. I'm sure Larryzaur's Basically series has been suggested to death, too ("Basically, which job to play" is a nice class showcase, a little spoilery though, best save it for ShB at this rate).
Good stuff as always. It's hard to convey just how bad 1.0 was, but fire works very well.

It was funny but there is a mistake there, XIV doesn't use luminous engine, they use still crystal engine in 2.2 version on ARR a debt code.
You guys remember that scene in Jaws where Chief Brody says, "you're gonna need a bigger boat." That's what Yoshi-P is saying to Square Enix on the literal megalodon size of refugees from WoW except he's saying, "you're going to need BIGGER SERVERS." 🤣🤣🤣
I wonder where the game would be now if they had built it in Unreal Engine or something besides Luminous.

Honestly I have never watched these videos or the "real well made documentary" cause I played through the alpha and beta and launch and stayed so I lived through it. Kinda surprised they didn't go into any details about the Original Director who was FFXI's one Hiromichi Tanaka. He actually has some awesome titles under his belt including FFIII and Chrono Trigger.
There is a video of Yoshida from 2.xs launch where he talks about 1.0 and the troubled launch 2.x had with full servers and disconnects etc. You should give it a watch. https://youtu.be/JE9G3ByXKIE
Just make sure you have some tissues. Yoshida really is something else. I know you love this game already but it's videos like the one I link that'll really make you feel like part of a family.
I don't actually know, but I heard people saying the last "BURN IT!!" is Sylvanas which is just too perfect since I think this video is a few years old. AKA pre-Shadowlands. My favorite FFXIV meme video of all time xD

A thing about the engine tool or whats-it-called… Its not a bad thing if a tech company uses engines and programms it made by itself instead of using 3rd party input: In my own workplace we will be working with a programm from an outside source and though it should have been custom made, its so bad, so cluncy and basically half of it is useless for us. So, yeah, better using something you make yourself (if you have the personel for it) since you know what you need and what you need it for 🙂
