The Masked Carnivale's Hardest Challenges – Getting Every Achievement in FFXIV #55

Another week, another silly Blue Mage challenge in the Masked Carnivale. These fights were the precursor to Bozja’s duels, so surely they can’t be that hard to clear for achievements? Right?

  1. IMO One of the best BLU spells is Goblin Punch. It is the only BLU spell with positionals, but it's tank positionals. While it only has a potency of 220 at positional, it gets boosted to 320 while under Mighty Guard, which basically means that it isn't weakened while under Mighty Guard. It's also the only decent damage spell that's instant cast that isn't an ability or have a long cooldown. This makes it a great spell during phases where you can't deal elemental damage. And it's the best damage source doing unsynced content, as Basic Instinct removes the damage reduction of Mighty Guard.

  2. Azulmagia used to have a little challenge to it, but you're using BLU spells from much later expansions. ARR's BLU spell list did not have mimicry or any of the more powerful skills.

  3. I was worried about doing Blu Mage synced content Buuuut you can really blow up some bosses with A full party of Blues it's Fun and Hilarious and made leveling and spell learning enjoyable.

  4. It feels weird to be in a position where I am a better BLU player than someone who I look up to in terms of FFXIV.
"Better" as in, I'm missing like, 13 spells?
Also GL with Carnivale 29. You will need it.

  5. Oh man, I can see the relic achievement point tsunami on the horizon. Until then, I've actually caught up to you more. You're now only 400 points ahead.

I have spent a lot of time in chaotic (only missing the minion now), but I kept on working on luminary tool achievements in the background. The largest point gain by far though is from finally being able to move on to unique SB levequests after being stuch in HW leves for the past like year. I've finished all the crafter levequests for SB, and I'm just waiting on allowances to get the gatherers done. ShB, EW, and DT's leves to follow immediately after. Finally, I finished big fishing up to and including ShB, so that's another long grind off the list. I'm still deciding whether to get into ShB ocean fishing or EW big fishing.

  6. Fun fact about these "don't take damage" achievements: Final Sting's instant KO does not count as damage taken and can be used to finish off the remaining few percent of a fight if supercharged with stuff like Moon Flute.

  7. If your going to do the raiding achievements as Blue mage, as a scholar main healing on blue is pretty simple. The downside is that everything has cast times, so your more like a white mage but blue heals are very very strong.
You'll only need these abilities to heal, although you'll also need your OGCD primal abilities as a healing blue mage still does some good deeps in their burst window.
    Sotrum. (Comes from Lakshimi)
White Wind (Comes from totem rewards.)
Dimaondback (Comes from the turtle boss you use cannons on.)
Pom Cure (Comes from Moggle mog)
Angel Snack (Comes from totem rewards)
Angel Kiss (Comes from Totem Rewards.)
Gobskin (Comes from trash goblins in Alexander, I think… 7?)
Aetherical mimicry (Comes from the lighthouse hard.)

Beyond these you fill your abilities with primal OGCDs like Feather Rain, Shock Strike, J kick, nightbloom, being mortal, ext… and you might be the Off Guard or Libra user as well but that depends on your group as sometomes the tank does that too. Also your filler damage spell is Sonic Boom.

Healing as blue, if you have a good tank, you will be mostly using gobskin and pom cure with a bit of sotrum and angel's snack when things get crazy. The tank will use White Wind for aggro, and thus heal for you sometimes.

  8. I highly presume the "Marriage Mediator" thing is a mistake on their part. None of the other pseudo-titles are related to her relation to her boss, nor is what happens in the chain.
I'd kill to see you do the bluemage raids, they are a blast. Except e12s (phase 1), that one can die in a fire.
Also for the obligatory comment that you have probably got 200 times already – The best way to increase blu damage is just to get it to 80. Then you get the strongest spell for free from the mamool ja totems. It's called "Breath of Magic" (very creative, I know).

  9. About tank/heal/dps Mimicry, while those buffs do increase certain role-specific stats the main benefit lies in modifying certain spells. For example, the healing from Pom Cure and Exuviation is only worthwhile under the effect of healer mimicry, while spells like Devour or Dragon Force are made more viable for tanking under tank mimicry. Using tank mimicry only for the push in defense is kinda not worth it. Outside of BLU synced raiding the decision mostly comes down to, go healer mimicry if you need more healing than White Wind can provide or if White Wind MP cost is a problem, else dps mimicry.
And yes you need more spells. The later carnival stages expect you to have access to many of the new spells that released with them, and for BLU raiding you want to have access to certain key spells like Diamondback and everything that increases your dps output, of which there is a lot.
