RE: The FFXIV Community Has A Big Problem – 2 Years Later

What do you think? Still something to be worried about? Or just a very small minority being afraid of change?
No matter what, the devs should work on these Problems or remove housing penalties once and for all.

  1. Unfortunately these types of people that he’s mentioning in the video, there’s nothing we can really do about them. We’re always gonna have toxic players, we should all should be able to have a opinion without the community dragging us. But unfortunately there is gonna be some bad apples and that’s NEVER gonna change. It’s all part of keeping the “balance”.

  2. There is some problems i find with some of his arguments:
    1. There is a lot new players that don't know how to go fast and just can't follow speed of some experienced players, and he know and can go slow. Even in real life when group go together on hiking or some other group activity custom is to go at speed of slowest group member.
    2. There is limited amount of content that developer can do in time for every patch and because casual player are large majority it is normal to large part of content is made for them. When he asking for more hard core content it is normal that some people say go back to wow because wow is what is it now because developer were putting more and more hard core content and more and more ignoring casual content and story so people are afraid that same would happened to FF14 if developer listened to players asking for it.

  3. I 100% agree with what he's saying. XIV community is far too rabid and blind in their support. I quit the game because the community is very friendly in a very toxic way.

  4. I started playing about a year ago and have a little over 1000 in the game, but I don’t play the high-end content at all, so maybe I have a big blind spot or something. But I’ve never felt like the community is toxic. Of course there are the random trolls, but that happens with every online game and I generally only run into those people ~once a week doing a random duty, so I vote to kick them or just ignore them and move on.

  5. FF14 fans is correct, I'm an FF11 player I can tell the game play is not good in ff14. The fans basically telling you if want enjoy the game you need to understand the story. The story itself is the important part of the game. If you just play without understanding the game, you will not like the game in a long run. You may like it for now the fact that it is new but you will get bored later on. We know FF14 game play isn't as good as wow or FF11 that's why you need to understand the story.

  6. I played WoW since wotlk and honestly sometimes it's a bit annoying to hear the hate from people when I say that even though I made a full switch into ffxiv have dropped about 1k hours by now. Idk I hear the hate but don't care since I play solo most of the time. Not that I've actually done anything other than msq lol.

  7. It's as simple as, you find someone toxic? you try to finish the duty and then block the player. Boom! done!
No, but seriously, there's always going to be a lot of toxic players in EVERY game, there's also going to be a lot of "fans" who will defend their game no matter what, either in FFXIV, WoW, you name it. These people don't accept criticsm. I love FFXIV, but I know it has its flaws and it can be improved, but at least, in this game, we feel heard by the developers, which leads me to:
If you don't like something about the game and you want to keep playing that game, go to the forums, make a polite and REALISTIC request to change any feature you don't like and that's it! 🙂

I agree with this video 100% we have too many cat people, and not nearly enough femroes

  9. The problem is: generally, its (almost) impossible to cater to both casuals and hardcores.
Respect his opinion. He should not be blamed for this opinion. But SE should NEVER cater to hardcores.

They simply dont know what they want. Lets see what happened to WoW:
They asked for endgame progression outside gear (back in Wrath). Then QQed like babies when Blizzard gave em.
They complained about trash in raids. Then, complained about Trial of the Crusader.
They complained about tier sets locking too many gear slots. Then, QQed when Blizzard removed it.
They say they dont care about storytelling, but blame WoW for having a trash story.
And when things goes really wrong ("split raids" cancer, for instance), they blame the company.

I've been on both sides, been a Hardcore player till Tomb of Sargeras (Legion) and casual since then. And hardcores are no better than casuals to give proper feedback and directions for the game. But generally is better to have a casual, positive enviroment, than an elitist one.

As for FF XIV, I'm not toxic to anyone. Everyone can and should voice their opinions. But I'm a Final Fantasy FAN way more than I'm a MMO fan. If FF XIV keeps the series' identity, I will always love the game, no matter what some random streamer thinks about it. No matter how many raids it has.
If someone doesn't like a Final Fantasy game (which includes FFXIV), generally driven by good storytelling, maybe he/she really needs to move on.

  10. 2 min in and had to pause to reply. You think hating you and saying you disgust me is a toxic ff14 mentality? Bro. Go public saying you think pineapple is great on pizza, and watch the hate comments fly. Ugly criticism is a part of all online life. You can't take it? Get offline. Your not going to stop it.

  11. Only partly agree. I feel like it's true for those involved in the meta sense like these CC'ers or people who use forums or reddit. But in the one to one sense, I've never met a player who doesn't have complaints about the game or can't take criticisms about the game. The vast majority who play this game are completely realistic. Somebody like Lynx or Asmon are dealing with a vocal minority.

  13. I remember watching that video the first time and still have the same thoughts about it now. I completely agree he should be allowed to play whatever way he wants. He should be allowed to ask for more content that caters to him. But he didn’t seem to accept any discourse that wasn’t of his own, and thus became a gatekeeper of discourse in the very same way he was complaining about. He kinda took an eye for an eye approach.

It can be said that the developers do respect the 1-2% of ultimate raiders. They do try and develop 2 ultimates, and Dragonsong has been one of the largest and most controversial ones. It’s been praised for its story, mechanics, and has created one of the most divisive conversations about third party tools. They’ve still promised another ultimate, and due to resource limitation, especially programming and localization staffing, don’t have the bandwidth to do it all.

I think it’s great that he story skipped and only engages with the content he wants. That’s exactly how you should be showing the developers where your time is spent with statistics. We’ve got plenty of people who do the story and can critique the leveling experience, he doesn’t have to be another opinion in that arena. At the end of the day, your time is also your money. Unsubscribing and resubscribing is actually using that time and money to make your voice know.

Yes, criticize and express your opinion. But your wallet and attention is also the way to send a clear message. If lots of people bought skips, then it would signal that the levelling process isn’t really a draw or important, and they may have a way to start every new character at a higher level.

I just felt like, at the end of the day, he wasn’t really promoting discourse as he was trying to shame the people who disagreed with him. That’s why I was happy with the other content creators who reacted to this video, like yourself, because it did promote more discourse.

He said he created guides and helped people raid, but if he really wants more ultimate content, he should be in the game and running ultimate training parties constantly to build up the ultimate community. That would bring the 1-2% to maybe 10 or 20% engagement, and then you’d see more development. Actions speak louder than words.

And that is the point. Instead of building a community and getting more people engaged in the content he wants, he just shows up, does the content, and then laments there isn’t anything more for him. That’s fine, but that is exactly how he wanted to play the game. But I don’t think he liked hearing that he got the exact experience he wanted.

  14. I had a pretty bad experience with the 6.1 Patch Day and it opened my eyes.. mainly due to the Kaiten Removal but it goes further because due to the Kaiten Removal it made me think why 6.08 was better, not only for Samurai but Warrior's Overpower got battered aswell, on Samurai it felt like I studied every facade of the Job and why it almost worse in everyway since 6.1.. but the saddest part about all of it is the hostility I face for voicing and reasoning my concerns.

  15. It's a shame that people have to grief others' personal opinion. Let people enjoy what they want to do. If they want to skip, raid, erp, rp, msq or whatever; leave'em be. Play the game and stfu simple as that. The emptiest minds are the loudest mouths.

  16. Not going to lie, I've seen way more toxicity towards FFXIV from WoW than from FFXIV towards WoW. I've even got a friend who gets angry as a reflex when the words Final Fantasy get mentioned.
Personally, I feel like there are too many people generalizing their own perceptions and applying them to the FFXIV community lately. We should remember that everyone is unique and has their own experiences and perspectives.

  17. I’ve been playing online games for 22 years. And in my experience, any online game with a loyal community, will generally be negative or aggressive towards opinions (and the people who have them) which are opposite to theirs. I’ll be brutally honest, I couldn’t care less what people think about a game I play. Then again, I’m not a content creator. I’m here out of curiosity. If ‘the community’ gets in the way of me having fun, they can go read Trump tweets. Nice reaction video. Thanks. 👍

  18. Most of the points are still valid. Like recently Asmongold making a video about people pushing him to play the game rather than interacting with his community and complaining. Let the man play the game how he wants, just like anyone and everyone else. The Story is a big draw, but it isn't the only thing. We have Raids, Trials, Dungeons, the Gold Saucer, decent PvP now, and the deep dungeons being something unique in MMO styling.

We need to accept criticism and learn from it. Both new and old players should be able to learn from each other. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, we all can be better to each other. Also… WoW Player Shouldn't be a slur. At this moment it is exactly that, it makes you look like an ignorant asshole that you claim to be "saving the community from".

  22. The argument for more content is so skewed I can't even.
Saying isn't enough content is fair enough. BUT BUT BUT, not enough content relative to what the community engages in or wants to engage in doesn't make sense.
Ultimates to his point, is a good example. 3 ultimates? As far as I'm concerned sure, I don't care if they do. But why the hell would they spend that many resources for content that most people don't play or generally want to play? OF COURSE they will make more content that is widely accessible over something that's going to be played for a month and then dropped.

Yes we all have opinions, but opinions weigh differently and arguments made hold more weight than others. Bad arguments will result in bad opinions and will therefore be more likely to be shut down.
And even in the best-case scenario, even a good argument will face push-back because different people are different.
Even if I take his arguments at face value and in good faith, the answer is simple "because it doesn't make sense to make more". You may not like the answer, but it IS a valid and legitimate answer.

To the argument about "Being fine to unsubscribe" I think you're misunderstanding the concept. The idea isn't they want yo to quit but rather they have limited resources to put out content and they will put out as much as they can given those resources. If you run through everything YOU care about, it's "fine" to stop playing a while and go experience other games. Having artificial roadblocks like lock-outs doesn't run counter to that philosophy.

  23. So as a final fantasy veteran, I don't think there's any problem with buying skips. I had people in my FC personally ask me about it and I tell them it's perfectly fine it's what they're there for in the shop. Many of times people will start a new character or a returning player will come back or even new players who don't have the time to go through the whole stories and just want to catch up to where their friends are and that's why they're there.

I don't think there's anything wrong with finding the story slightly boring especially ARR; it's pretty tedious for most people who are not used to a story heavy MMO with lots of text and reading.

I think the biggest problem that I see personally is people not caring for the story which is fine but rushing through everything else to try to get to end-game content. In rushing of her players to move through dungeons faster and get her raids and everything faster because they don't have the patience we have their rushing through everything else.

Now this is something that may have been normal for other players coming from different MMOs. And don't get me wrong we have some speed runners who you will run up with when you're doing stuff with randoms. But the mentality that you are forcing other players to now take what is usually a casual game when not doing savage or extreme content to that degree of rushing and messing up while you're doing it is slightly bad.

No you don't have to be perfect and no you do not have to sit there and go through the hundreds of hours of text. To me that's completely fine it is your personal experience just don't force it on to others. And that goes via v for the people who are complaining that someone bought a skip, let them enjoy the game how they need to enjoy it for their personal fulfillment of playing the game.

whatever your pace is go at it when you're doing solos for anyone who's actually having problems I would advise you to use the trust system where you play with NPCs that you meet throughout the game to clear dungeons and everything. It's a good name to use if you want to just run through that content very quickly and it's available. It also means you don't have to deal with some players who may not want to go as fast as you are, and you will learn the mechanics for every fight very well.

I hope that this doesn't turn people off from the community cuz many of us welcome everyone with open arms if you want to buy a Skip go ahead.

  24. Content for everyone without any downside is a bit of a pipedream. Catering to casuals is good, it's better that 80% of people are catered for most the time. Right now we are on a ultimate patch for example which is catering to the top x% and most people feel the lack of content for it. We Can be critical all we want about things we might prefer, but the fact is the way the content has been delivered over the years has led to a consistent overall growth for the game.

The community stuff is fairly true, there are certainly a lot of snowflakes out there, I would say in game it's very good and wholesome overall not that there are not bad eggs. On social media much less so. I actually don't like the painting of the community in this much of a poor light cause while what he said is absolutely there I do feel it's like a vocal 2% issue.

On the topic of WoW hate I have two explanations one is very simple tribalism exists in all MMOs sadly in WoW I can find people trash talking every MMO and in every MMO I can see people trash talk every MMO (especially WoW) Reason number two at least in EU and NA a lot of MMO players have interfaced with WoW to some degree, many people quit it and dislike the state of the game over the years, find a new home in different MMO's and then become anti-WoW.

As with all things in life there is room for improvement within the game, treat others how you would like to be treated and all the good stuff.

  25. The only time I bring up WoW is the toxicity I see from some people. I might be only 80-90% right most of the time but some comments I see kinda gives it away like : FF14 is filled with SJW who gets their fee fees hurt if you mention 1 thing they dont like. They arent wrong that there is some people like that in FF14 sadly. But why the name calling tho ?

As for MSQ goes, I know the both sides thing and when someone tells me they skipped all the cutscenes and story, I will joke about it and let it be. Cause some expect a big reaction but im more of the, we all play how we want to. Some wanna buy their lvl 80, id rather grind my way to it. My personal feeling is you learn a class better by leveling it up than buying it outright but thats my own personal feeling and I wont impose it on others. Heck, I will probly buy it for monk and ninja since im no good at those classes haha.

  26. Asking for tribalism between mmo's to stop is hopeful, Discourse between communities will always be a thing. Everyone wants to defend and over-protect the thing they love and keep it away from the opposing side, It's the same reason people still argue over which is better between playstation and xbox. People are stupid and can't appreciate the good things about both sides, while also criticizing the negatives.

  27. To be fair, in an analytic and objective perspective, the story works with basic plots and is nothing close to a masterpiece, but and this is the point, the game really succedes at its story telling and detail in lore, which make it a overall great experience.

But that's not for everybody, some don't need to be told basic stories packaged in a well orchestrated theater, they just wanna God damn play the game and please for fks sake let em

At the end, even controversy about this topic is barely more than entertainment for our silly perverted consumer brains lol

  29. What I don’t understand about people who claim the story is boring despite skipping all of it is just, Why?

Would you watch a movie for the first time just to critique a specific actors performance, or the vfx techniques, without bothering to even pay attention to what’s going on in the movie?

Would you read a book just to study paperbacking techniques and find all the different fonts used across physical books?

I just don’t understand why you would completely skip over something that’s so integral to the game itself. And then to complain that that feature is boring when you haven’t actually experienced the feature and just skipped over it entirely.

  30. This just in: A community of millions of people contains toxic gatekeepers in addition to generally nice people. More news at 11.

In all seriousness, there will always be people quick to jump at anyone who plays differently. That said, as someone who has played WoW for 15+ years and FF14 for almost 2 now, the difference between the two communities is STARK. In general, FF14 community has been OVERWHELMINGLY positive and supportive about playing the game how you want to play it.

Other than that ff14 is looking dead maybe cause of the 5G frying alot people like i seen in the uk how the other countries and microwaving people with 5G if you got the chip implant ect but we gods try to warn you guys but 90% of you guys faild and took it and well they are dropping dead you seeing alot less people everyday and wonder why i guess. But %g frying people and solar flare from the new china's sun are killing alot people lately proof is look up you can see it powering up now but ill see you all in the after life i guess. But as a seer in real life i sadly know everything that going on. I been playing FF games since 1985 and the games just arent as fun as it used to be alot of mean players drove the FF 14 players away it seems but theres toxic players everywhere but i enjoyed the good times i had in 2010-2014 after that i feel the game died after stormblood came out but have fun guys i hope you have fun in the new days sun hint. MMO's are only fun the fisrt few years then end up like tera and you all see how tera in now pretty dead.

  33. Honestly, I think this is because there is a very real fear of the "elitist" power-jockeys who only care about endgame raiding and such. That fear stems from Blizzard catering so much of their gaming towards those players and not really giving a crap about anyone not interested in raiding. If there was a balance change, it was based on high-end raiding. If there was new content, it revolved around raiders. If PvP was addressed, it was tailored to the esports wannabe scene. FF14 is tailored to the story-driven casual gamer with tidbits in it for those who want the more hard core stuff and that is how folks want it to stay. This is why the fear of WoW players exists, because that dynamic from WoW is something a lot of FF14 players dread seeing in their game.
