Quitting Tanking in FFXIV: My Current Dilemma

Over the past few months I’ve considered quitting tanking in FFXIV for Endwalker. After tanking for many years, the role is starting to feel repetitive and stale. Here’s my thoughts and concerns on rerolling.

  1. It's almost impossible for me to switch jobs let alone roles, I'm a big fan of BRD for several reasons. (BTW tell me why you like your jobs)
It isn't centered on your 1-2-3 GCDs, it is more focused on managing what skills you have available
I like having an internal clock of 3 seconds due to your dots proc'ing to manage mid fight
While it seems like you always want to rush back to your best song, having your priority and flow of combat change every 30 seconds is actually very enjoyable to me, keeps it fresh.
I like how often you have to double weave
I enjoy holding oGCD windows for possible procs and having to make split moment decisions just to squeeze out a bit of damage
Like I don't really care to parse like 90+ (it would be nice) but I just like how much control you have over what skill goes where.

The job has a ton of issues though, but if they didn't change it at all in EW i would be 100% satisfied. If anything I want to spread dots to nearby targets, and I want all of my proc'd skills to have charges so having godlike rng doesn't make me lose uses of a skill.

  2. Hey there! Enjoyed the video. I'm sure you have already thought of both of these but have you thought of either, Still progressing on tanks and using melee jobs in learning partys etc to prog as dps after you finished with a tank since i'm sure you and your static will clear it rather fast after new content is released, or I hate to mention this one but a second character. Either way enjoy the videos and would look forward to videos you would do as a melee dps job since that is what I primarily play while messing around with tank jobs as well.

  3. my advice is… play what makes you happy and have fun. if tank isnt making you happy or you are not having fun swap, its alright we all get burnt out on the classes we play even i do. i get tired of just playing tank and i do change it with dps so i understand. and even more if you already did so much. so play what is fun in your own opinion. alright my tank brother .

  4. How about you get a dragoon alt ready for EW now and just join a second static with your alt after you get your week 1 clear on your tank main? this way youd get to do prog on your tank and you could still try raiding on drg. Seeing how this next tier is gonna be released JUST BEFORE christmas, there'll be tons of statics starting only after the holidays. After that, you can still make up your mind?

  5. Can you talk about getting started in raiding? I'm fairly new to this game…my first mmo…I've found it EXTREMELY hard to get into a serious group. I'm either A.stuck in pf with people who quit in 2 wipes, or B. At the mercy of a few discords in which I'm asked to provide a long list of logs…My logs are obviously not good enough..but how can I get better if nobody gives me a chance?!
I'd do anything to find a person or group to teach me. I really want to become a good raider but I'm at my wits end..Currently I'm searching to pay real money just to have people play with me.

  7. I played strictly PLD on all of ARR once HW came out i switch to SCH & AST I liked it. kept it going then took a long break from the game. Now in SB I'm playing every role. But whenever I run ex primals I go with tank

  8. Dude. Cmon. You don't get number one without fishing, and yes…you push buttons in video games. Your biggest problem is obviously doubt. Find a static and fkn DfD, man.

  10. My FC had an original intent. Clear the raids as main spec, then go through them with alt specs for new challenge and diversity.

Your frustration, for lack of a better word, is the tanking in Shadowbringers. Who knows? Tanking in Endwalker could be extremely fun. But, maybe consider talking with your static about doing alt runs once main spec runs are done.

  11. I think you've stumbled into the age-old tank problem in that progression is always awesome and challenging and then re-clears are boring and disengaging. Where as at least DPS always have something to strive for (better dps, parse etc.) I've had the same issue in other MMOs and you could always just tank prog and dps on reclears and other content? Up to you my man but choose whatever you will find fun, follow your gut!

  12. Based on your comments about potential regrets, why not tank through progression and then swap to dps. It’s a shame no one in your static is willing to swap, but if you’re conflicted then finding a different one with people who are willing to role swap may suite you better.
