  1. My dude, the cutscenes from 1.0 were easily better quality than the ones we get even in the current game. That actually came to be an issue as they were very expensive to animate for the volume that was needed.

  2. I'd love to have an official collection of levequest plates. Normal version would be made of colored plastic, with a more expensive version made of real stained glass. I'd order a set in a second.

  3. You should also watch the final fantasy xiv tech demo from e3 2005. You will see a certain city I don't want to spoil it for you. But I was super hyped when I saw this place in game years later. 2005 feel like ages ago but it's interesting see the 1.0 vision at the time. I was still play ffxi was looking forward to next ff mmo.

  4. So about lil miss lala in the cutscene. Back in 1.0, there were no jobs. It was literally just the base classes.Thamaturge, conjurer, archer, pugilist, etc. As you leveled the classes and got access to moves, you could pop and swap abilities. There was NO restriction originally(cross class skills came muuuuch much later and were basically a ret con of uhh uh oh we need to limit who gets what and why). But originally it was completely wild west. Level what you want, take the skills you get and stick em as you wish. I had a fun little build where I had a pugilist with Cure, the thamaturge buff spell(I think it was Vigor? its been so long I forget what its called), Rampart from gladiator, and Fire because if I get a chance I will live my Street Fighter dreams wherever I can. It was an interesting experiment, but even compared to the 11 cross class system, it left a lot to be desired.

  5. Back then, I hear, classes were less restricted by their abilities. But abilities were restricted by class. To get quickcast for white mage you had to level black mage. That’s why I’m guessing the white mage here can use elemental. The idea was to have a more homogenous skill system. Didn’t really work out and they changed it a lot over the years.

  6. This trailer was pre-job crystal. There were only classes. Conjurer held all of the elemental spells, while Thaumaturge was a light & dark caster with DoTs and debuffs. Once jobs were added, the classes got redesigned as framework for them.

  7. The levequest thing never fails to amaze me. Part of the long-term approach the OG 1.0 team had to creating content was to constantly develop and plug in new levequests so that each individual content addition could be small and quick. Levequests were expected to be where max-level players would spend most of their time.

  8. Fun thing about the trailer: It shows the main city Aetheryte in the Adventurer's Guild. This was the original plan, but they soon realised that doing that would actually cause a lot of congestion, so ended up placing them elsewhere

  9. Man Quazii, since a lot of FFXIV content creators have been focusing elsewhere lately having you as a consistent creator in the fandom is such a blessing ♥ It's so fun seeing your face light up whenever you talk about FFXIV, the joy you have for FFXIV brings me joy in turn. Please keep up with the great content!

  10. I love that this is basically Ardbert's party in the 1st. Even the same bartender from the Crystarium. Lammit, Cylva, Renda-Rae, Nyelbert and Branden too. Before the flood, anyway. They drew so much from this for Shadowbringers. He even starts as a bard in the same gear you see him stumbling along in at the start of the SHB trailer.

  11. He keeps mentioning that it's a 13 year old tech…aside from a few more threads and cores and a few filters we really haven't advanced that much…in fact we are in a ten year stall…because no matter what we do with the tech the software really doesn't advance that much.

  12. Anyone else notice, despite the trailer showing WOL as an Archer through 95%, he's actually a gladiator. (the sword & shield on his pack) Which makes him being a Paladin by Endwalker brings the journey full circle. Love it.

  13. The scene where they do a team combo to the moroboru is a demonstration of the “battle regiment” system. Therefore, you will see a magic burst in the end, much like the chain skill system in ff11

  14. 1.0 was an interesting time, that's for sure. To answer some of your questions: 1.0 didn't actually have "Jobs", they had "Classes". To be come a true "Job" in a sense, you had to level up different Classes to acquire certain abilities that would make up the kit for a traditional Final Fantasy Job. Thaumaturge was more offensive, but had Regen and Shock Spikes (think WAR's Vengeance, but you can cast this on anyone). Conjurer had Cure and Stoneskin. So you can imagine that a "WHM" would need to level up both Thaumaturge and Conjurer. Similarly, there was also a Class called "Sentinel". This is how you got some Shield abilities. Only Conjurer, Thaumaturge and Gladiator can equip one hence why in early ARR, you sometimes got Caster Shields because those were actually from Dungeons that originated from 1.0. A BiS Conjurer would actually use a Wand and a Shield. Jobs didn't get introduced into 1.0 until after Yoshi-P joined the team. Hiromichi Tanaka had some wild takes about the Final Fantasy mythos in that he didn't believe established lore needed to be in the game to make it a Final Fantasy game. Things like Chocobos weren't considered and then later were due to fan backlash. It's also why 1.0 was the least "Final Fantasy" game out there and why traditional things like named Jobs didn't exist. Quite literally none of the Class names were anything we ever got in the past.

As for Levequests, the game was entirely built around this system. All of the Adventurer Guilds were where you would pick up a set of them a day. You were limited to how many you could do and you would earn points that you can spend to take on more rewarding Levequests. An example of this is all the Temple, Harlequin and Buccaneer sets were earned this way. All of these are now in ARR dungeons. Your Main Scenario quests were also limited and gated by this system so you had do to Levequests in order to be able to spend points to unlock a Levequest MSQ.
