One of my favorite shows to just relax to is Bake Off. The contestants are sequestered for the duration of the show (post-covid, before they simply came and went) and bring a lot of their stuff to the competition. The reward? Just winning. There is no $ involved. These people are literally in this show because they want to be and baking makes them happy and it shows in how most of them are kind to each other and have a good time despite it being a competition. The MMO market is the complete opposite. Rewards are the reason people play. Not because they like it. Not because it's fun. This commenter said the content was fun but disappointing because of no rewards. Imaging having your outlook on life so fucking warped, that something you ENJOY doing loses value when there is no external reward. And something you HATE doing gains value because of an external reward. This devalues having fun and removes the incentive from developers to create fun stuff when they can give you crap with a carrot at the end an you prefer it. This is specially baffling in FFXIV because YOU DO NOT NEED THAT MUCH GEAR TO DO EVERYTHING. You being 610-615 for most of the life of the patch does not prevent you from engaging in the entirety of the patch's offerings. This person is saying something FUN is less worthwhile because it does not give them a reward that is largely irrelevant.
Sorry, but many WoW players have been mentally trained to want reward reward reward. As if a game that doesn't monetize every element of itself is somehow bad.
I don't think the post is asking for an obligation to play the dungeons every single week like in savage. There's nothing wrong with complaining about the rewards being shitty for the dungeons because they kind of are. The mount is cute, and the emote is cute too, but after I get them I know that I won't have much of an incentive to go back and play it again, even though the content really super fun. People in this game don't run content just for the sake of running it. Just look at Delubrum Reginae Savage. It's insanely fun but good luck getting a PF together for it. Without good rewards this content will just die out after a month when everyone gets their mount, and it sucks to see that happen when it's actually really good and fun gameplay.
I was annoyed buy the personal spoils chest. I hate when they clutter my inventory with fireworks…….
The rest of the rewards are what I expected and I'm fine with them. I don't care about gearing through every piece of content and prefer not having every piece of content revolving around gear.
Toxic WoW players have made the gaming landscape completely shitty. Stop begging for hamster wheels and stop making content about min -maxing for clout!
STOP TRYING TO MAKE FFXIV LIKE WOW. We WANT story, we WANT good movement mechanics, we WANT lore-based combat progression. We DON'T WANT that cheap ass fake-difficulty content that just sucks out the air in the room, discriminates by stupid stat barriers, and punishes people for actually having an enjoying, paced experience. Fuck all the fake ass WoW players who don't want anything but to ride Bobby Kotick's dick.
The biggest issue with putting savage level items in the dungeon is this. If you place said items then there's no reason to do 24 man for loot and currency because why wait in a que for 15 minutes when you can do the dungeon. If you offer savage level items, then there's no reason to do 8 man content because its far easier to find 4 people vs getting 8 people to do a lockout.
So either no savage loot or you have to change gearing in XIV in order
The other and probably better option….
Relic Armor for the dungeon. They did it in Eureka and it was a hit and a miss (due to how Eureka was) but it provides an alternative avenue to gearing. There was also a fight that gave Class Relic Armor (Memoria Misera) that you could exchange totems for class specific relic pieces that had 5 materia slots.
So in essence Rusted Sil'dih armor (ilvl 600) Renewed Sil'dih Armor (ilvl 615)
Sil'dih pot shards (2 for boots/gloves/helm, 4 for pants, 6 for body) Upgrade costs XX00 Sil'dih silvers.
It gives the carrot and the stick, plus gives an alternative means to upgrade path. The relic armor (just like the weapon) wont be at the same level as running 8 man content until the 6.55 but depending on design could be a nice set for anyone to have and work towards. Most of the content in XIV you do not need max ilvl to do at all outside of Savage and Ultimate fights.
What i said in aother comment section: I love the clothes. If anything there's more fantasy clothes than there are modern clothes so no, never noticed the problem. The day they started, i became happier. I'm so mature that i prefer clothes i actually wear, that's just how i am. But of course only i know what an adult is, just like that person, appearently. So i'll stay an adult and refuse it. Plus we have been going towards tech and tech is modern, i know duh. We already know that sometimes they don't choose the wrong path to do things, just a different path, to maybe interest the people who would prefer that way instead, the patches don't have to be loyal to a specific fan base, like raiding wow online. Hildi quests are funny and great if you don't like it, you're no adult and have room for growth, your life lacks experiences, just going with what you said sir. Never did relics because i know it's a specific grind that i don't like, like eureka and bozja. But that's just how adult i am, you know. Perhaps they could add modern and fantastical clothes, but since i haven't been disturbed, my adult butt likes things the way it is and the way it is, is tweaking every patch and i enjoy the constant cycle of readaption. I love potd and hoh. I like some savages and ultima etc. But i'd rather not go for it because most people i meet are intitled bastards, in that content. The complaints are from people who didn't get itched this time, it's someone elses turn to get itched. Smells just as spoiled to me. All i hear is me me me, every patch me me me. Those who say that there's some truth to it usually mean to brainwash you to dislike smth along side them because you're a trator otherwise and they wont like you. That's okay because others will like you. Move along. To the complainers, add other activities to your day besides FFXIV, it is very clear you need to get up off your chair, because you live and breathe FFXIV, just like raiding wow online.
The reward is the gameplay, if you don't like PLAYING then you only login to get the check marks and log off for months. These people need to go back to wow, they'll make FFXIV as dumb as wow. I wish yoshi put in an extra fantasy glam and mount as a reward as a test to see if they will still complain. I know they would. But just for his sake, so that he doesn't lead the game astray.
Tbh I was relieved that I didn't feel the need to jump into the Savage mode immediately. They could add a cool title like the Legends to it so if someome cleared it, they can flex but other than that I am fine with cosmetics. Maybe just more cosmetics 😁
I really liked this content however fun is not forever and drastically can go from being played everyday to not being played at all now play something thats its very fun and have rewards is way batter imo, i dont think it would have harmed to add some gear for this cuz they kinda did it in late Bozja and Zadnor where you could get 525 ilvl wich is not bis and it didn't hurt the savage gear that was still better but was a very good alternative to gear up alt jobs wich is my main problem right now, accessing gear 620 or 630 is just slow as hell and i can't jump into savage with other jobs only with my main job cuz savage in the worst case you only get a book per week and the weekly tome doesnt let you gear alt jobs unless you take a damn long time sure you can jump with crafted gear but thats not always the best thing to do and at the end you just need to buy it wich is not interesting at all. They added good gear for bozja and zadnor it was content i enjoyed alot and allowed me to gear my jobs in a decent pace not very slow not very fast just like a daily zadnor/bozja and you could do it as many times as you likd, if VC is replacing Bozja then it should have been an alternative to access 620 gear
They do have a method of gaining the upgrade mats, they're just added later to not… i'm not sure if this is the right word but invalidate the effort of doing savage while its still current. in 6.3 we'll get the next alliance raid that will initially add the ability to upgrade accessories then they slowly bleed in the rest of the mats before 6.4's next raid. if they put a way to get the upgrade mats in another mat if it was easier that would become the main avenue of progression. that or it would be a case of double dipping, where you would have to run both types of content each week to try and fast track your gearing.
you seem so biased towards ff14 its valid criticism with the lack of playable content the game has rn literally the only time i log on is when my static raids theres nothing when it comes to dungeon or raid gameplay in the game to do rn except savage don't get me wrong i enjoyed the new dungeon but its not gonna keep us hooked for long i also want to add im not talking about gear progression cus that would be bad
I wouldn't have been upset if the Criterion had some kind of catch up gear as a reward, but I would want it to be a cool looking set, and no better than 615 blues or something along the lines of the crafted gear. Nothing that would rival savage, or be an alternate gear path from savage. I think in general they take too long to release the catch up gear with the alliance raid in the next patch, and it would be nice to be able to start getting some gear for alt jobs. And if they plan to release these on a x.x5 patch, then it would be a chance to do that. But I wouldn't want it to be an alternative gearing path that someone could endlessly grind. Personally, I'm fine with the kinds of rewards they offered, and I really enjoy this kind of content.
We don't want reward structures and loops, we want a reason to come back to the content If the reward fot such high difficulty fights is a mount that by the way you need to grind for then yea no shit people are upset Content for the sake of content is cool but without the glamours, titles, mounts etc many people would not do savage or ultimates at all. It could work as a catchup mechanism for gearing as well to give you a slight boost after the tier is out but that is whatever, it would screw with the system maybe much.
I have been playing this game for 2 years on a daily basis and let me tell you the whole excuse that people use saying yoshi p has said you can unsub is total bullshit, and it is no excuse for lack of meaningful rewards for doing content in the game. It is a multiplayer game after all, if you can't show off then why bother?
As a side note, I and most people do not care at all about WoW, I've never touched it nor do I care, and nor do we care about whatever trauma it has caused its playerbase, we are asking for a better product that rewards our time
We don’t want 14 to be like WoW, we want 14 do give us an alternative for savage. We aren’t asking for a unique gear set from criterion. We’re asking for a different way to get savage gear. Not everyone wants to get 8 people together or suffer in pf. We are 8 weeks into the tier and a LOT of players (especially tanks and healers) have really shit gear. Making it so criterion and criterion savage gives savage times or coffers is a good idea. Players want to gear different jobs or roles, this has been a complaint since HW. It takes 8 weeks to gear one job. If I want to gear a tank, a healer and a caster, that’s damn near 24 weeks assuming bad luck. This isn’t something that WoW refugees brought over, this has been here for a long time. Criterion and criterion savage are really difficult. They are so difficult that the fact that their rewards are materia, a glam set and two mounts is not enough.
I've absolutely loved the Variant dungeon. Almost already have all the rewards, but I'm still not done doing solo runs cause the bosses are fun as hell. I think it's a shame that people are already trashing it because you can finish it in a reasonable time, because I hope (and expect) that they'll make more Variant/Criterion dungeons later on down the line and probably also add in more rewards.
Okey i can undestand that but i think he is right. Compare to the Variant Dungeon, you get to complete all, and in the process this: -Housing Items -Fashion -Glam -Emote -Mount (Complete all endings)
But to Criteron and Savage, that is the hard part you only get this. For good you can sell high in the market for the hard part. But that it. I understand the difference that. I really want if they put like glam for Criterion and Savage.
I don’t want it to be like wow either but the rewards for savage are embarrassing. I they could do better than materia, an ear ring and a banner. I don’t think people expect gear necessarily but some nice glam items, pets, another mount maybe. I’ll never do it regardless but what incentive is there for people to do it again after they have completed a few times. All the other difficult group content in the game is more rewarding.
I mean even using PoTD as an example doesn't work, since it does contain loot from spoils that can be sold and are generally pretty rare. Sure if you are JUST going for Necro, then difficulty for the sake of difficulty, but very few seriously pursue that(or quit after hitting a major wall). Either way I do agree with the poster, but not for power upgrades, there does need to be a better loot system and dumps for currency to incentivise replayablity. Having a carrot isn't inherently bad, it is when the systems are designed to manipulate and pressure the player into always grinding for that carrot that makes it bad.
Also not a former WoW player(well not since Vanilla-TBC) and a FF14 player since ARR.
there are 2 new items you can get from the end reward in the criterion savage dungeon. the rest is materia, which is easily gained from other sources in the game. once you get those 2 rewards, what point is there for someone to go back into the dungeon? the challenge? the materia?
Player: "I want fun content to do besides raiding." Devs: "Here's Criterion." Player: "Well, that was fun, where's my reward for doing the fun content I asked for?" Devs: "Here's a mount, orchestrion roll and some other stuff." Player: "WHAAAAA! THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO DO WHAT I ASKED FOR AGAIN!"
The concept of doing something challenging just for the challenge is completely lost on people like this. These are the people who deride the idea of participation trophies and then demand them for themselves. WoW tried to appease players like this with their mythic+ system and it led to more toxicity in the game. While I think Yoshi-P and company could do it without it becoming a toxic cesspool, I don't know how much I would want to risk it and I don't know how much the community as a whole would want to risk it. Besides, there's no satisfying people like this – it's always "MORE! MORE! MORE!"
It would be nice to have some form of gear drop. At least something to help smooth out progression.
inb4 al lthe hate. I just want fun content (which it is) and some fine reward. (which it kinda skimps out on.) Is that too bad to ask. Also some more fun glam would be nice. Just one set feels kinda… cheap. Ya know? For a game that gets a lot of support, just wish we were wowed in the rewards department. It feels underwhelming.
Its kinda weird that the Abyssos BiS is the best gear you can bring tho. Sure, no problem for good content not to give general gear but… Your progression on the criterion is locked behind Savage Raids. One thing I loved about Bozja was that you could do it optimally without having to get shit from anywhere else. I was expecting something similar, specific gear that would only work inside criterion. That way you'd get rewarded but you'd feel your progression only inside that specific content.
There would be a problem of lack of inventory slots for parallel sets if they took the Bozja approach tho.
For reals dude they do need to stop comparing games. I've never played wow but my husband still does and yet I don't complain or compare cuz both games are their own ways.
i dont agree that people are trying to make the game like how people just want things to chace because no matter how fun the content is if there is no incentive to do it people will do it once and then never again, then the content dies and the devs basicly go "well no one plays this so lets not do this again" it doesnt have to be gear upgrades it could just be cosmetic stuff or mounts and yes this is important specially in an mmo just "being fun is not enough" because people love to show off specially in mmo's same reason why people just sometimes stand with their ultimate drawn, if i dont have the incentive to do something i basicly go "why am i even doing this ?" a good example of things that take a good while to complete and work towards and is also fun is Eureka, Eureka takes a good while to completly go through and theres a big dungeon at the end aside from the Stormblood Relic weapons and armor that you gradually progress through the several zones the reward for doing the big dungeon at the end is a mount that not everyone has, that ultimatly is your carrot on the stic wich i think this is lacking. i know most wow refugees usually shake at the fact something similar to wow comes to ff cause you dont want it to be like wow i get that but its ok to critise them when criticism is do so please lets not get rose colored glaces on all the time just cause you dont want this other game to be like your old game.
didnt the guy that saved ff14 from its original failed state say that he borrowed a lot of his ideas that saved ff14 from wow to begin with? TBH i wish wow would borrow more good things from other games so they can all improve and become more fun. but im also not a zealot of nostalgia.
I absolutely agree with your outlook on this. They're just not getting that "high" that they want and it's a personal problem—they're burnt out and need to take a break.
Imo V&C as content is good and rewards are fine imo as highend M+ pusher in WoW (I don't do it for gear, since highend pushing already needs you to be as BiS as you can be and I don't want V&C system become like m+ in terms of reward cycles). What I would agree is lacking in V&C rewards is variety, like 2 more minions, 1 more orch roll and some minor cosmetics along side existing set, (akin to false nails, fae wings, stuff like that). It's not so much that rewards suck, rather the diversity of rewards.
Edit: system would also benefit from coin sink other than materia. It could really be anything, materials, dishes, anything.
What an uneducated, unabashedly bad take. It is clear you are fresh to FFXIV and know nothing of its history of how previous expansions managed endgame. You have no right to claim what is and isnt FFXIV when you clearly don't even know the bare minimum about the game you're making videos on.
The Noir Longcoat was enough of a reward for me. I'm currently working on making myself look like a member of Iscariot from Hellsing because it fits so well
subscribe to lower my blood pressure
Players: "I want a game that respects my time."
Also players: "How dare this game not keep me playing every waking moment of every day. How dare it be designed for me to take a break!!"
Me: eye-roll
We had something like that. It was called The Diadem, and it sucked HORRIBLY that it got removed and collectively forgotten by the community.
Also that's fundamentally what the open zone relic progression instances were but think they're basically taking a break from that.

It is not that kind of game, and will never be that kind of game.
Aren't Bozjan and Zadnor give you gear? If so it has been done before mean it can be done again.
Rewards are indeed disappointing(It just a reskin of flying chair) but I doubt it'll stay that way. We just need to wait for update.
"Fun" isn't going to cut it if Bozja content didn't give exp ,mount ,gear or title it would be fucking dead after a month

Okey i can undestand that but i think he is right. Compare to the Variant Dungeon, you get to complete all, and in the process this:
-Housing Items
-Fashion
-Glam

Player: "I want fun content to do besides raiding."
Devs: "Here's Criterion."
Player: "Well, that was fun, where's my reward for doing the fun content I asked for?"
Devs: "Here's a mount, orchestrion roll and some other stuff."
Player: "WHAAAAA!
Seems to me people want quantity content ( not necessarily good) rather than quality content. I prefer to do something that has some love in it
Its kinda weird that the Abyssos BiS is the best gear you can bring tho.
I have not heard people complaining about this sort of stuff on the JP side tbh, must be an NA thing
Amen.. content is reward enough!..
