Don't know if anyone has already answered it, but when gear has a plus symbol, it means that you have a glamour on it. I would recommend that when you have a full set of gear that you really like the look of to make a glamour plate of it in an inn room. Then you can simply have that look no matter what you are actually wearing.
I would also recommend doing the Pup No Longer quest just to get the company seals. It introduces you to the PVP area, you are not required to do any PVP to finish the intro quest and get the seals though.
7:57 don't fight it
The additional quest displayed below your MSQ tracker is a significant one; it will allow you to summon your chocobo as a combat companion. It takes a long time to level the chocobo up, so it's good to get that started. You will also notice when you switch back to Thaumaturge that you have more Q+ quests waiting for you now that you've progressed the MSQ up to the sylph part. They stopped appearing at 30 because you were still too early in the story to unlock job quests.
