Emet wasn't lying or trying to sell us on his plan at the end, I don't think. He did say that *if* we were to survive the rejoinings we would only stand to gain. The reason why we don't survive the 8th calamity is not so much because of him but more because we try to go on the front lines to stop it.
While there is a lot of – extremely deserved – hype around The Twinning, there is one other lv60 patch 5.0 dungeon. The quest to start it is in Eulmore after you finish the 5.0 MSQ. I hope to see it next week, imo it's just an extremely fun dungeon.
Being a former Garlean Emperor and patron of of the dramatic arts, Emet-Selch is used to shooting bad actors.
rubs hands together. Oh yeah. It's all comin' together.
The moment I opened the window and saw the sky filled with light again… I felt so numb. It was such a moment of failure and shock. It's nuts how they make you feel that.
Also: G'raha Tia is bestboi. <3
The funny thing for me was…..doing the Crystal Tower hasn't always been obligatory……thus I didn't do it before Shadowbringer. So…..when the reveal happened, I was just like…."Who?"
The Crystal Exarch was one of my favorite characters because of his earnestness as the WoL's biggest fanboy. As noted, he does try to play it down, but it gradually seeps through especially in that last "campfire" scene you have with him.
Also, I'm so glad you're finally at this point. The Exarch reveal is the hardest spoiler to keep secret IMO – I've had several friends start ShB and point-blank say "That's cat-man, right?" and you can only say "Nah" or "Who's to say?" so many times. This has also gotta be a huge load off your mod team too 😉 (Thanks mods!)
Mt. Gulg is a bit different than primal arenas. As best as I can tell, the environment in a primal fight is more of a reflection of their control of the space. It's like a distortion of reality as you fight in their domain.
Mt. Gulg has been physically lifted and transformed with the vast quantity of aether that a lightwarded possesses. He's basically shaped the light-aspected aether into a palace on the mountain.
The white marble is solidified light aether, or normal rock forced into a light/umbra aspected form by Vauthry. As the final and strongest lightwarden, and the one with more conscious control of his power, its entirely within his capabilities to do that. The other light wardens are kind of capable such terraforming around them, but they are generally more instinctive in nature, or in the case of Titania, sealed.
Either way, the cubical nature of this marble is almost entirely to show the nature of the light/umbral aspect in FFXIV: it the force that imparts order, certainty and stability into the world. Of course that orderly figures would be the natural way for such umbral/light aspected force to manifest itself. In opposition to the more biological and chaotic nature of the void sent.
My favorite part of the reveal is simply that Emet lectures you in a:
"What, are you STUPID?! He can control the tower, of course I knew he was from the source and had Allagan blood, I just didn't know what his goals where, and when I found them out I cast gun.. How did YOU not know it was Gra'ha tia?!"
explanation/line.
Well, we can kind-of get an idea of the timeline of Emet creating Vauthry because it happened after the flood and after Minfilia's stopping of it (because Eulmore was fighting lightwardens).
Since Solus wasn't alive at the time, he presumably could do it anytime between Minfilia's trip to the first and when he started messing with Varus towards the end of Stormblood. My guess is that he did it shortly before his meetings with Varus (which would still be decades ago for the First because of the time differences) as part of his "cleaning up" after others' mistakes.
I can’t believe they critique Mr. Chai’s talos. It’s almost like they thank themselves to be expert Talos builders. Lmao 😂
Shout out to Feo Ul, who literally offered to let you become Titania, hide in Il Mehg ,and rise up to stop anyone from coming to take you down even as you become lightwarden. That's loyalty you can't buy!
Can't wait for tomorrow!
Telescope is the word you're looking for. That whole talk at 33:00 about G'raha, exactly. They kept it bottled up so long you start to wonder.
"Now I'm wondering, what is going to transpire when we get to the Tempest?"
I'll tell you right now; one of the greatest endings fucking EVER. PERIOD. Shit goes down, and it goes down HARD.
Y'all are in for such a ride, I'm so excited for you dudes. And I'm really happy you're finally seeing where all the Shadowbringers hype comes from. It took its time but DAMN was it worth the payoff!
I wish you would finish shb already, but these videos already remind you that, in exchange for the stalling, you are truly giving the community a lot.
You rock. I hope i catch the end live.
I'll throw it in now since it's still safely in the realm of unconfirmed fan theory, but there's a decent chance that Chai-Nuzz is the Cid of the first as the genius engineer who ran "Daedalus Stoneworks."
I'm going to thumbs up the video just for warning me about spoilers.
I'm currently hating ARR and trudging through it just out of curiosity because people keep saying how good the expansions are
Pretty sure Vauthry ripped the top of the mountain up. Perhaps by his power. Perhaps by magical machinery that already existed on Mt. Gulg, but pretty sure that happened right after he ate the fork.
As some others mentioned, Aether is not just "magic juice" it's also life energy, MATTER, soul, and memories. It's all different types of aether.
I was look forward to these. Please do more Dead Space if you haven’t. I like when you guys branch out
fun fact:
you have to know the little fact, that for "normal" players, playing the game for years, the story of graha tia/the crystal exarch was years apart. the crystal tower was not part of the msq and was in arr first big update. newer player have the point of playing all the story in few weeks/months… so the suppriese for the older players was better build up.
if i remember correct, you hadnt had the option to call him by his name, if you didnt do the side quest from arr.
now it all got fixed, with crystal tower part ot hte msq.
From this point onward, up until current 6.0 patch content, is my favorite story stuff. Cannot WAIT to see you both get through it. I'll be watching popcorn in hand 🙂
Naming him Innocence because he was born a sin eater, he never had sins to be forgiven. This expansion slaps so hard.
My guess with the slouch and the deep sunken eyes, is he is just deeply depressed and every time he shapes a body it still comes through.
I did crystal tower back in 2014 so when they did the big G'raha reveal in 2019, I'm like, who is this?
"i now feel like i know enough about shadowbringers to know why it's so beloved"
DUDE WTF, i laughed out loud for a straight minute at that quote.
I'm glad you're enjoying the ride though 🙂
About your guys question on if Lahabrea made ascian robes for Thancred, do you guys remember when Emet used Piccolo’s “clothes beam” on Y’shtola after snapping her back for us? Laha probably did the same for Thancred.
I always thought it was Unulkuhai because of the Warring Triad quests. Lost my shit when they revealed it was G'raha. Love the editing and the videos boys, please keep it up.
1:46 Consume the Meol! Become enthralled by the Bromance!
Man you guys are in for quite a stream on Thursday. I hope you're not expecting that to be a quick one – you've got a lot to get through.
I appreciate you guys going out and sharing your MSQ experience with the world via the internet. It's incredible fun for me to go around seeing what other folks have to say about their time progressing through FF14's plot and sharing in an experience that I would never have expected to be so close to my heart when I started it.
Siri play Civilizations
“La-hee!”
🥺🙂🥺🙂
it's pure crystalised aether
So this is how you work out the timeline with when Emet came to the First.
Emperor Solus died during ARR patch content. (Maybe 2.3, I can't remember)
Ardbert comes to the Source in 3.4 – 100 years pass on the First between 3.4 and 5.0
Ardbert fails, Minfilia stops the flood, sometime after Sin Eaters arrive.
Eulmore attacked by Sin Eaters. Emet arrives to change Vauthry. We can estimate this anytime between 4.0 and 4.4 when G'raha starts calling over Scions.
I suspect they just use a generic Ascien model for when they're in their robes, since Elidibus is clearly not in Zeno's massive body when he first reveals himself as Zenos in front of Varis
Another Great Video!
On the whole Canary/Gulg Boss thing: I think the two are seperate HOWEVER… they're similar stories for a reason. It's, in my opinion, intended to drive home just HOW exploitative Vauthry's Eulmoran "paradise" is.
How many times has this happened that a rich soul, including Vauthry, has brought in someone to entertain them only to have them perform so constantly they burn out their instrument or skill?
Then, as their "reward" they get Ascended to being a sin eater, then rendered down into meol.
What does the rich person do then? Send out the Jonguleurs to track down another poor soul to be brought in and wrung dry of their wonderful talent.
Thay boss, and it's shared story to the Canary, really drives home the horrible, inhuman mentality of Eulmore: The world is ending, so bring in someone for me to enjoy and dispose of them when I'm done or theyre of no use because why not? I'm doing nothing wrong, theyre ascending without pain as opposed to being eaten anyway…
It's a great reminder of just how much damage Vauthry caused, not only with his direct actions, but what he enabled and drew out of others.
Where can we watch the vod of the dungeon/Vauthry/CB reveal? The latest MSQ video on the clips/VOD channel only has up to the formation of the talos.
So like, at this moment when you're the source of the light… when you take a teleport back to the source, does the sky in Norvrandt just switch off like a lightbulb? Teleport back and poof, it's light out again. That's really got to mess with the minds of everyone on the first. It'd also be really bad to complete your sin-eater transformation on the source.
So i put this video as a new tab while watchign youtube shorts and switched back to hit play just as a short started abotu hilter youth dueling with swords came up then read the title of this video as : Oops all Nazis.
I died laughing.
Couple of points, it is actually inferable to determine (at least a general range) when Emet-Selch helped create Vauthry. Since it happened after The Flood of Light had already been halted by the OG Minfilia in The First, we know it had to occur (relative to The Source) after the events of 3.4. And since Vauthry already existed before Thancred was summoned to The First, we also know it had to have occurred (again relative to The Source) sometime before the events of 4.4. So the range ends up being within 3.5 to 4.3.
Also the lion Sin Eater was never a Light Warden, it was just a powerful Sin Eater that was used to demonstrate Vauthry's powers even as an infant.
Another common theory of who the Forgiven Obscenity might have been is that she might have been Vauthry's own mother. As apparently the NPC for Vauthry's mother has a similar face to the Forgiven Obscenity model.
Also Exarch!G'raha technically never saw his friends and companions (e.g. Cid, Nero, Biggs and Wedge, etc.) die over the centuries, he was sleeping/in stasis inside the Crystal Tower for those centuries. He was only woken up later by Biggs' descendent.
26:30 maybe the baby thing was, like, the human "him" all along and the Vauthry we've been interacting with throughout the story was the Lightwarden influence taking over his body early on in life. And when he eats all that meol before going to Gulg, that could've been the catalyst to bring out his dormant Hume side and fuse it with the Vauthry personality, and when Innocence, proper, pops out, that's what the "real" Vauthry could've looked like if he wasn't fused with Lightwarden essence. Crack theory but, hey, it's Fantasy.
FINAL FANTASY.
g’raha tia is precious protect him at all cost
Yeah, like you said with bosses. I figure Vauthry can do stuff like this dungeon same way Titania can manifest an entire forest, and primals in general can create entire environments out of their own aether. He's a little unique in that he started doing it BEFORE his fight but it's still pretty common with primals and primal-esque beings like sin eaters.
🙂
The exarch reveal itself isn't too shocking particularly if you have gone through the story more recently. As someone who played Crystal Tower when it came out way back in ARR it wasn't as fresh in my mind and many others who played it back then. To be fair though, I guess 100% correct who it was right away and I think many did, most were on the right trail but just were thrown off by the game.
