  1. oh, do i EVER have a head cannon for my main

and both my alts. even posted about my main in the comments of one of these video before. one of the Miqo'te ones, probably the newer one, and the Dark Knight one since she is both.

for those curious, one of my Alts in an Au'ra Gunbreaker, originally from the steppe(Exiled Oronir on account of being born with the wrong eye color, she …. strongly dislikes them to put it mildly), and a scion her self, brought in at the request of my main, who, just is the WoL for my head-cannon-verse, and is more or less the equal of the WoL in terms of fighting ability, but is a bit to free wheeling in personality to really be 'the hero of the people'(not that my main is much better she can just play the part better) the way my main is. but she and the WoL are more or less best friends in head cannon. Despite her free wheeling nature, and because of why she left the steppe to begin with, she FIERCELY protective of those close to her, it's the whole reason she took up the Gunblade. well, that and the weapon was interesting to her, as such she tend to treat the WoL like a 'little sister that needs to come out of her shell' sometimes, as she she legitimately worried that being the 'WoL' is preventing her from having as much fun as she deserves to have, or getting as close to people as she should. i should also point out that in my head cannon, while all the raids have been completed to this point, the WoL hasn't done all of them, Shadows of Mhach and Return to Ivalice where done by this Au'Ra, (even though she didn't exist when that content was new) while the WoL handled the 8 man stuff in those expansions, while in Shadowbringers she was the one handling the situation in Whurlit while the WoL was busy with Eden (Nier is just kind of a fever dream far as i'm concerned)

my other alt is a Viera Black Mage. cause in recently leveling it on my main cause i want everything at 90 on her, i came to like Black Mage. She, is also a lot less … serious … in intent. She's not from the source or its reflections, she was actually a he back on their home world, and yes, they where, briefly, disappointed that the ended up on a world that has cat girls, the unstable way the got to this world turned them into a resident of said world, and that said form they end up in was not that of the cat girl but the bunny girls. as you can imagine they got over it rather quickly. Past that, she typically dislikes being called an adventurer due to her feeling more like a 'mercenary' since she's ether looking for some one/something, or killing something/some one, but she also doesn't correct people on it since it's not worth the head ache. she's also the only one of the three to be musically inclined as back home they where in a 'garage band', which you would think would lend her to being a Bard, but the idea of 'blowing shit up with magic' sounded more appealing. she does have a small group of friends she's made on Eathyris she's made and does stuff with. Granted they don't know she's from a completely different world, they just thing she's a little … strange … some times with the stuff she says, but they like her just the same as she's reliable, sharp minded (usually for friendly banter. The Roe she runs with will never be-able to eat certain foods again due to some of the … suggestive jokes she's made, but she can come up with some pretty decent plans as well) and in general just a good friend. She is looking for a way back home, but it's less cause she want to leave, and more to let her friends and family know "she's not dead, she's fine, she's just found some place REALLY COOL and she'd gonna be there a bit"

  2. Great video! I also don't actively role play with anyone however my fiance and I make intricate characters and personalities for every fanta we have, giving them their own unique style, names/titles, and glams. We made a big picture collage of all our fantas and various FFXIV characters we've made over the years drawing lines between the characters like the red string cork board trope, describing our characters maze of relationships they have with each other and how they know one another in our head canon. Some are married, some are enemies, there is an overarching antagonist and their minions, different groups of heros, and also some betrayals in this silly narrative. Very fun times, XIV lends itself and its world incredibly well to this sorta thing.

  3. I love rping in FFXIV. It's such a fun setting because it has just the right amount of hard bones and open questions. It's broad enough to let wizards and engineers both exist separately and together. See Matoya helping cid with a mechanical device.

I also love how I can tell that your walk through the quicksands probably wasn't my server since I don't recognize the people about. It also probably wasn't balmung because people were dressed, and you could load in.

  4. My character is a domian shinobi and new-wave astrologian (I mean, Levava is not that good of a teacher… he had to find a better one, which is another player of my FC). He has memories of his past selves in other shards, and of his ancient (whose name is Morpheus, 'cause he's a nice guy '-'). He is now creating his own style of shinobi-arts and astrologian divination magic, that I called onmyôji, because he wanted to use both styles in battle. He is in a relationship with Marsak (from the Bozja quests). He also had his part to play in various occasions, like the liberation of Ala Mhigo, the Bozjan war, and recently the assault on Zott Tower and the demise of Zodiark. Soon he'll teach one of his friend his shinobi techniques :3
When Meteion will be brought down, I plan for him to craft a divination mirror from one of her feathers (yes, that gorgeous Bluefeather Astrolabos), but I don't know yet what will happen with it '-'

  5. So, after a bit of research, one of the best servers for RP is Mateus. As of the time of writing this, it is currently full as a home server, so you lay have to travel in from another server.

  6. I met my husband through RP 🙂 when I started playing ffxiv, I saw it as just a game. But as I got to know my character, I started to solo RP in my head, knowing what she's saying and feeling throughout my game play. She don't have a house yet in game but no matter where she is, at the end of the day she makes sure she returns to the forgotten Knight or the pendants to take stock of the day before going to sleep. I honestly want to write a fan fiction for her.

I would love to RP with others I'm just super slow at typing as I'm a PS4 player and I dunno how that would work 🤣

  7. I've always wanted to get into MMO RP. I've only been a text RPer since the days of IRC…msn..yahoo…ect. but I don't think my server (Siren) is a good role play sever….. I wish there was a guide out there that just goes here… this is your server and here is a noobie rp guild.

  8. Having come from WoW (and a little SWTOR and ESO) RP to FF14, I do think I have to make the comment that FF14 RP is a little odd compared to other MMOs.
While all MMOs have designated ERP hubs and there's usually currency-for-ERP going on in those spots, generally, the game's currency doesn't factor into RP.
However, in FF14, "club RP" is WAY more commonplace than any other MMO I've tried. And this is a two-sided blade.
On one hand, it brings in more RPers to RP, and RP is FAR more accepted in FF14 than it is in other games, it's also much less understood, since it's… diluted… for lack of a better word. Many participate without really understanding it – they RP as themselves, effectively. Further, gil is strongly tied to RP to the point where many get into RP specifically to MAKE gil, not for any real enjoyment. I know many FF14 players that have done a lot of RP, but never in a setting where gil was not directly involved. And FF14 players have a misconception that this is normal because of how pervasive it is – it's not, however. It's VERY MUCH a quirk of FF14.

  9. I got sent this video by friends on the Chaos side of the RP community, and I have to admit this is a beautiful, constructive overview of how the RP community operates. Hope this one takes off and much ❤️ from the community for this.

100% got my sub for this one, looking forward to seeing your other videos over the coming weeks.

  10. Me and my friends have our own little version of the MSQ where our characters assit the Scions and take on certain traits of the story and other questline's but for simplicity's sake we have Meteor and THE WoL and it's so much fun making up scenarios with everyone. We also used to run an rp bar and occasionally visit other venues and rp locations. After being out of Rp for so long then getting into FFXIV it feels so nice to see how open both the game and community is to it.

  11. THANK YOU for showing our community in such a positive light, Scribe, and JoCat too! Too many people treat us like Zoo animals pretending to mate in the streets, and I'm so happy to see people finally putting the effort into taking a deep dive into why and how we do what we do.

I love the RP community in this game, and the many friends I've made within it, and I wouldn't trade them for the world <3

  13. The "Warrior of Light" may be OP, but I don't think that would make it boring to have as a character. I don't RP with others but I write about my WoL, and I like to write specifically how being a Warrior of Light affects him and how he slowly buckles under the weight of his ever growing titles and responsabilities.

  14. This video just put words to something I haven’t yet articulated, lol. Thank you for that! FFXIV is the first game I’ve played where I felt almost pushed by the story to make a headcanon for the MC, and in doing so, my experience is infinitely richer for it. I’ve never been one to do that so it’s been a learning experience, haha.

  15. I am very very happy this video tries its best to really shine a light on normal roleplaying other than just dunking on the SAME TIRED OLD "lmao limsa and balmung quicksand ERP amirite"

Seriously, that stigma being perpetuated is a huge reason people just throw us all under one horny bus and we're shamed for it. Yes it exists, but so does the very interesting and frankly very quality writings going on.

  16. I have been wanting to try RPing in FF14 but I have no clue where to start. I am so intimidated by all the unspoken etiquette and rules lol. And I also am afraid to get involved in a not-so-great group on accident. :')

  17. Thanks for this video, it was very interesting! I have been playing/storytelling Werewolf: The Apocalypse games and a few others for over a decade and have a huge document with infos about the backstories, actions and opinions of my FFXIV chars. And yet I have never taken part in FFXIV roleplay, but couldn't really grasp why. Your video made me realize it's the "fuzzy" rules of what you can or cannot do, and also contradicting how my FFXIV characters are created. When I play in two groups of WtA, both groups rely on the same core system (WtA), but how each group's world looks and feel likes, how strict rules are, what the house rules are etc. can still drastically vary, and it is part of the fun of being in different groups. However, each group still has their own house rules made clear at the beginning and everyone could talk about their veils and lines and all and even how close you will or will not stick with the core rule book. When I hear about FFXIV roleplay, e.g. like in this video, it seems to me however that the core system in itself is heavily altered to a point where I'd have to heavily adjust if not rewrite the concept and backstory of my own character to fit in. (So it's not just a few houserules here and there, it's more like having a rule book with "WtA" on its cover and half the pages replaced.) My characters are shaped by the gameplay and the MSQ though and saying "nobody is the WoL" (which does make perfect sense, don't get me wrong,) would basically set them back to a level 1 character with rarely any advanced personality. xD (In my head canon, all characters are WoLs but only my main is "the" main character WoL. But they all do the journey together etc.) Also the number of people you are about to interact with is probably much larger than 4 or 5 and often changing, so getting to know each others boundaries is a lot harder than in a pen and paper game where you discuss this at the start.

So although you probably intended it otherwise, your video helped me realize that it's better for me to stay at the sidelines and develop my head canon for my own (and I am grateful for that. ^^) And maybe share it one day once I got rid of that art block. xD

  18. I think it's really cool that your character has some similar motivations/ideas that my main does in FFXIV: Basically, Laura has fully embraced her role as Azem, is in the process of building a New Convocation of Fourteen (we still have like 6 positions open) and am using my Island Sanctuary as a research facility/hq for the New Convocation that has been (unofficially) dubbed, "Nea Elpis."

In other RP that I'm involved in in-game, my FC is called "Hogwarts" and I'm the Head of Hufflepuff House. We actually have sorting ceremonies for new members, and our large FC house has been meticulously decorated to match Hogwarts Castle as closely as possible (including such iconic things as the Whomping Willow & Goblet of Fire hedge maze in the yard, and a re-creation of the Great Hall, Dueling stage, Library, Potions Class, Charms Class, Prefect's Bathroom, Herbology Class & Defense Against Dark Arts Classrooms, among others inside). I also want to note that I didn't start as the Head of Hufflepuff when I joined the FC, but was asked to take that role after the previous Hufflepuff head had to step down due to, for lack of better work, being the Hufllepuffiest Hufflepuff in the FC….

  19. I've been actively RPing since 2012 on WoW and 2021 in FF. I love the community here, and I can clearly see why some rules are set-in-stone with the community since that's been more or less the rules as well with WoW RP. The games had some crossover population, which may have helped set the rules in FF's community too. And since the wow exodus? You can bet that several guilds moved over to FF. There's even been threads on WoW groups from RP servers announcing their departure to FF.

  20. That's it, I'm now shipping Victor Quibbles and Synodic Scribe. /jk

But this is a great video. I can't help making backstories for my characters in the game.
My main is an old lady in her mid-to-late 50's who was a traveling hunter/gatherer who specialized in hard to find materials while raising her daughter.
But I also have an ex spy prostitute from Kugane, and a Viera who left the jungle just to learn more about the Allagans after exploring ruins near her village obsessively for decades. There's so much you can do with this setting!

  21. As one of those who was there for 2.0 launch, I can attest that RP didn't just catch on fast.. the community was deciding on which servers would be the RP servers in NA before it even launched. The answer was Gilgamesh and Balmung. I was on Gilg, though like many others I eventually migrated to Balmung as it grew into a VERY RP-heavy server. To this day, Balm is the place to go for RP, and forget Limsa, go to Ul'dah and you'll see what I mean. There's no time of day, any day, when the Quicksand and environs are not saturated with RPers.

Just, uh, maybe bring rubber boots. Goldshire lives on in FF, in many ways…
