Nocturnal Astrologian deserves to existin FFXIV. I’m never going to be over it. Nocturnal Astrologian was my favorite healer to play alongside my main, Scholar.

11:08 PLEASE GIVE US NOCTURNAL ASTROLOGIAN BACK PLEASE!
Hey guy’s it’s yo boi Evyx.
I’m still not over the removal of nocturnal astrologian. I want it back please pretty please. A few nights ago I sat down and for my own fun hashed out what would Nocturnal Astrologian look like today in a modern Final Fantasy XIV setting.
Then I got salty as fudge and decided to throw this video together about how we could have an incredibly awesome healer that could fill in a sorely missed niche.
An engaging rotation on a barrier healer. There. I said it. Time for my comments to explode in fire. Did you all forget I am the same one that said quite literally years ago I find Scholar’s rotation of broil spam boring? Outside of savage content or ultimate, which I am taking Scholar into dragonsong’s reprise ultimate– it’s just not that engaging which always always pulled me to play Astro for it’s card gameplay. For all of astrologian’s still simple gameplay the card system pushed it above and beyond for me as a barrier healer player with its fun cards.
Now let’s explore what a current modern nocturnal astrologian would look like, and I think people will be extremely positive to it. If anything, a modern day astrologian would be significantly more differentiated than even Sage and Scholar.
Let’s start out with the basic heal over time effect trickle that Scholar always has been famous for with their pet– you know the real healer as I’m out here doing damage. Eos and Kardia are persistent heal over time effects. But did you know celestial intersection for nocturnal astrologian used to be a very powerful targeted heal over time effect on a low cooldown? It healed for 950 potency per use on a 30 second cooldown timer. In a modern setting this would not change, other than the fact it now has up to 2 charges. Which might make it seem too similar to Kardia or the fairy people might be concerned about. Aha, not at all! It’s not a persistent effect given it’s 15 second duration and with 2 charges you could opt to cleave this across say two tanks being smashed into the dirt, or to heal a damaged DPS or any number of things. This can satisfy a very different set of niche situations.
Intrigued? We’re just getting started.
Celestial opposition used to be a skill that could apply a small off GCD barrier to the party, of course the skill got significant power value tweaks like cooldown lowered to 60 seconds and a huge power boost to now an aoe 700 potency heal. To approximate what it would do today it would likely be something like an upfront heal of 250 potency and a followup barrier of 250 potency. Essentially this is to match the power of Scholar’s Seraph’s consolation.
Now that might seem boring to some, but it being on a 60 second cooldown versus Seraph locked in at a 2 minute cooldown with 22 seconds duration means these would be far more flexible to apply and frankly depending on the damage structure of the encounter potentially vastly superior. If there are only death threatening AOEs every minute rather than in quick succession panhaima from sage of seraph consolation would simply not be available for that second one.
Though not without their own merits, Seraph and Panhaima are brilliant in their own niches. Seraph at the same time bathes the field in powerful single target seraphic veils, panhaima simply has revolting value in multiple quick hit AOE. So this would still keep all 3 actually addressing 3 very different concerns and retain uniqueness.
Next up is collective unconscious which today does a 500 potency area of effect heal to the party, which is oddly enough in line with sacred soil from scholar and sacred soil from sage. If timed at the proper moment it can provide mitigation for a single blow without decreasing your uptime.

We have two shield healers already. And with the current set up it wouldn’t make sense
Sage and Scholar do not fill the rift left with the removal of Nocturnal Astrologian for me. The card system on a barrier healer was AWESOME! It was very engaging and fun. PLEASE ;_; PLEASE 🙁 PLEASE give Nocturnal Astrologian back! Please 🙁
Let's do it! Bring back Noct Stance! And Stormblood Cards! Just… roll back to Stormblood Ast and bring in all the new shit! Please!?
I too miss Noct AST but I understand why it ain't a thing anymore still fun to play with ideas like this
When I unlock Noct sect I never left it, and then they took it away from me :c
Bring back Nocturnal Sec and Selene being different from Eos. No more meta bs, have everything be it's own thing
I've played Noct Ast since HW, I never liked Diurnal once they upped the barrier potency when they were trying to fix ast in HW. I've always perfered shield healing over raw healing/regen.
Nocturnal sect my beloved, miss it every day
i would straight up be a noct ast main if it came back. no joke
I liked noct/diurnal swapping, but it isn't necessary with the current 2 barrier/2 regen setup. Noct was and always has been scuffed scholar, and the job also has just been destroyed and lost all of its interesting mechanics over the years. Like you can't even extend card buff duration anymore AST is in such a garbage state it's unreal.
some ideas:
Aspected malefic, a penance/holy shock like ability, you could choose between a nuke or a big heal, your sect would buff one aspect of it
Omen:for every matching sigil deal 200 potency of damage to a single target
Event horizon:apply a potent, 1000 potency barrier lasts 10 sec, if destroyed the target will radiate astral energies damaging enemies by 50 potency and healing allies by 75 in a 20 yalm radius, lasts 15 sec
god I am begging for 6.15 already Im caught up on everything and theres notta to do besides cap tomes.
I know the Arkasodora tribe is gonna be gr8.
new video about AST: -.-
Evyx saying "it's your boy": 0.0;
lol, just messing! I'm not good at this theological stuff, but it's still interesting. keep it up!
I miss SB AST. I miss my cards.
Should they change nuetral sect if they bring back nocturnal sect?
I'd actually love a healer that not only could choose barrier/regen, but could also swap mid combat.
I REALLY love how red mage feels in pvp swapping between the 2 modes and I think that would be a really neat job design in pve
Omg. I want to hear this information. But you chose the old sharlayan music and I keep tuning you out. Your voice just fades away. After the eighth time of rewinding after I realize I stopped hearing your voice, I gave up. This has never happened before, but something about your low gravelly fry voice falls so far under that tune. Your voice is the background noise sadly 🙁
There's a part of me that wonders if nAST was in the game right now, about where would it fall in usefulness/power and where would it fall in the healing meta.
I have no idea, but it is a curiosity for sure. I kind of wish they'd add it back, not because I play it (AST is the one healer I just can't get into), but because I like more options for people to play so everyone can have something they enjoy.
For my part, I want to like SGE, and like it…okay…but there's something COMFORTABLE about SCH. Maybe it's the warmer green of its icons vs the cooler blue of the SGE's. Maybe it's because the names aren't all "something-chloe", maybe it's the years playing it. But it feels familiar, and I like that, even if I know I can't play it to its full potential. Hell, I don't even put Dissipation on my bars (I HATE that ability). But I still love the Job, love the tactical arrangements of abilities (if anything, I hate that GCD heals are so undervalued since Emergency Tactics would actually be fun to use more if that weren't the case), and the only thing I dislike is how long so many of the CDs are (Deployment Tactics on a 20 sec CD that can be used defensively AND offensively just feels SO GOOD to use!)
But I feel like them removing it, in retrospect, (and even in pro-…pre-…whatever means "before-spect") was a bad call. In the long run, who knows, but I think the we didn't so much gain a new healer with SGE as we came out even since we lost one healer spec and gained another. It'd be like if WoW removed Disc Priest but then added a new class with a Disc-like healing spec. Sure, there'd be a new flavor of healing, but it wouldn't exactly be a net gain. If that makes sense? At the end of the day, we went from 4 healers in ShB to 4 healers in EW, you just have to level up a new Job and it doesn't have cards and astrology, instead having laser guns, so for people that like that aesthetic style and lasers/guns (which, full disclosure, I do), it's nice…but at the same time, we kind of just came out even rather than actually gaining something as healers, I guess?
