  1. It's worth noting, if I'm remembering correctly, the announcement version of this trailer dropped before 4.5, so we didn't know that we were going back to the Crystal Tower yet. We hadn't seen the scene in the Ghimlyt Dark in-game. It was still a complete mystery as to what was happening to the Scions.

That is one thing I think the majority of newer players experiencing the MSQ and trailers will miss out on. The sheer level of mystery that this trailer brought with it because of when it released in the patch cycle.

  2. Although i don't play and have no interest in FF14, i have to admit the cinematics are better/cooler than what WoW ever has had to offer, except Classic up to Wrath qwhich are quite nostalgic, albeit understanding FF14 ones, their backstory is nigh impossible if you don't actually play the game, as opposed to WoW cinematics. For example all FF14 cinematics don't mean anything to me besides being cool looking, i have no clue what's going on, where as in WoW cinematics it's usually clear and straight to the point. I suppose both games have their advantages in that regard, but FF14 is cooler for sure.

  3. This trailer is my favorite. It was so hype when it originally dropped, and I still get jazzed seeing it even after finishing Endwalker. As a former WoW player, Shadowbringer's trailer gets me hyped up like the Wrath of the Lich King trailer did for many many years after Wrath's expansion.

  4. Nobbel should rewatch the trailer after finishing the 5.0 shadowbringers content! watching it afterwards reveals just how much foreshadowing and actual spoilers they packed into a trailer without you being able to realize they were spoilers and it's great

  5. "Maybe she'll actually be a fun character to hang around with now." Hah. You really can't judge a character by the ARR experience, but the Source's Minfilia is the exception.

  6. We are the Warrior of Light in the world we start in, which makes sense considering the dark forces that threaten that world.

But the world we go to in Shadowbringers is a world in which the Light is the threat. So there we need to become the Warrior of Darkness to vanquish the Everlasting Light that has made life so insufferable.

  7. It was an amazing time!

Watched this trailer over and over for months. Had no clue what to expect.

Theory crafting was really fun 😁

Just found you recently and have really enjoyed your videos. Your theory crafting and analysis is top tier.

I've tiptoed into your WoW content and as an FFXIV it has helped me understand WoW much better. Azeroth has changed much since I played Warcrafts 1 through 3.

  8. I think a few thing are important to mention when we were living up to the announcement of the new expac. The trailer was dropped in small bits and every fanfest they added an extra segment to it, so you can imagine the sense of build up and hype. Also I'm pretty sure they announced quite early on that we would be traveling to the First, or at least many people in the community had figured this out in some form or another. Also, there's a lot of callbacks and references in this trailer, such as the city being in a demo for 1.0, the hype when we finally saw a gunblade user in Thancred and everyone guessing who that voice was that was calling to us (though many people figured it out quite quickly lol)

  9. I watched this trailer at least a dozen time before i even played the game just becouse its that good!
once i did get the context i got a thousand times better!
Pretty much the best trailer they ever made, though Endwalker comes close.

  10. Hmm… You didnt pay attention to the Warrior of Darkness Arc in Heavensward i guess. Thats why you cant put 1 and 1 together in this cinematic and got the wrong idea.

  11. The thing that's hardest to understand is that this was not the trailer we got for the announcement. This was the final version of the trailer released at the Tokyo FanFest. The initial version of the trailer shown at NA Fanfest in November 2018 (found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxBYy1uzSqI) was much shorter and had significantly less detail. We then got the second version at EU Fanfest in February 2019 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjPVSF2dpUE) which had two more key scenes not included in the initial trailer.

The initial teaser came just after patch 4.4, and the second two months after 4.5 had released. They were carefully edited to not give us any major spoilers based on the content we'd had at that time. The final version trailer ends up basically being a "this is what your friends have been doing between the end of Stormblood and the beginning of Shadowbringers", and show us the details of some things that are never actually discussed outright in the ShB story, or are mentioned only in passing.

  12. You'll eventually find out that the quotes belong to a character in the expansion as well. Remember those words that the little gremlin says.
This trailer had the most foreshadow for future events of all ff trailers for me.

  13. I was present at NA Fanfest when the first teaser dropped and the energy in the room was unfathomable. We had so many wild theories and completely nonsense takes that kept getting wilder and wilder, especially once the launch trailer came out. Being a part of the run-up to a XIV expansion has been so much fun each time because the team has a really good feel for their players and I'm excited more people will be able to experience it in the future!

  14. the main character switches jobs on the fly as he fights the lightwarden.. first he's an archer/bard, then he gets his ass handed to him and as he flies backwards he switch to warrior and charges in again
and has he is fighting, he switches to lancer/dragoon in mid air and a monk, the way they show all the different jobs the main character has been up until this is cool and then he dies and turns into a Dark knight.

  15. This is still my favorite FFXIV trailer of all time. The thing about this trailer is that by the time you got the FINAL trailer we knew quite a bit about the expansion from playing the game. Also, there were actual game trailers leading up to the expansion launch which I would totally urge you to skip as they are spoilery as hell which thankfully they cut back on a lot with the Endwalker marketing.

  16. Golly didn't realize you made it this far Nobbel. Some interesting theories there😁. I enjoyed everything til this expansion. After this, I was feeling like this is home. The emotional Rollercoaster called Shadowbringers is fantastic.

Between music and writing, I was blown away with how amazing it was. Not many games can reach deep down and pull the feels and this expansion beat me with them.

Enjoy Nobbel and I hope you don't get spoiled. This is some of the best writing so far in video games. Also why WoW can't be my main game anymore.

  17. This is not just the best FFXIV trailer, but might be my favorite game trailer of all time. The blend of action, music, cryptic hints, and just utter badassery gets me every time.
