  1. His comments about summarizing the plot is similar to people wanting to jump into a game like Kingdom Hearts or Trails series which are heavily story based. Many people want to play the games, but if they have to go through hundreds of hours of gameplay to get to the latest one to discuss/play it with everyone people will be discouraged from even attempting it. This isn't an issue that's present if every game/entry has a story that isn't connected with the previous entry (like most Final Fantasy games or the Tales Of series).

If the next expansion for 14 starts with brand new characters/settings then a summary isn't required, but if they keep building off the previous entry then a summary will be required.

  2. I understand your misgivings, but "catching up" is not a good way to look at it. Even with ARR, the less polished part of the game, the story and the dungeons are part of the fun, The leveling is meant to be enjoyed.

  3. Probably would have been better to just watch it rather than trying to grind dungeons while half watching something that is 75% subtitles. I'm sure he still got the gist of it, but watching this gave me a headache.

  4. Yeah. That's the CEO that is big on SE doing NFTs.
Frankly I think it's a badly though out marketing strategy. Getting some new investors, doing some NFT friendly projects and quietly discontinue it when it stop making them money.
It's like Dell was all into taking and using Bitcoins. And then quietly stopped accepting it as payment, when they figured out it made them no money.
So yeah SE are liking their chops at NFTs, but I feels it's just a fad and less of a true forward purpose for the company.

  5. People think a 1.0, hell even a 2.0, classic would be fun. It was fun back in the day, yes, but it's like going back to dial up internet after experiencing fiber optic internet. It was cool back in the day because that was the best that you had. Most of those job changes and quality of life changes, you'll miss them after a couple of days of playtime max. Hell, a lot of people probably will not last a few hours.

  6. One point about the free trial: There were beta tests for ARR's relaunch that I believe all previous beta testers got invited to; I know I was invited. I plated the original 1.0 beta for 15 minutes before dropping it an never looking back. I tried the ARR beta and become invested in playing at the full launch.

  8. Having things like the UI run off of scripts means that any time the UI is used the script has to load, execute, and then update at the server before pinging the results back to you. Think of how many times anyone ever uses their menu in an MMO, especially at launch, multiple it by the amount of players and you get an idea of how much strain the servers felt.

  9. FF Tactics didn't have a snowball tutorial. You are thinking of the FF Tactics Advanced for the Gameboy Advance. The old PS2 Tactics was a much darker, more mature story you would find in line with something like Ogre Battle and involved the themes of the horrors of war to civilians, the struggles of common men against their leaders, and how far one is willing to go in the quest for power or ideals. Plays out a lot like a Game of Thrones session, highly suggest the original as it was remade was the War of the Lions edition and they redid the translation as convoluted old English for no reason.
