  1. *the one thing i would wish FFXIV would borrow from wow is their "dungeon guide book". keep dying to a mechanic open the UI and its their right in front of you. Or if you are the person explaining the dungeon you have bits to link to players
*my biggest issue with boosters specially for fresh players is when they "boost/story skip" a fresh FIRST toon (to play with their mates etc) and they come out and say stuff like "the combat system was shyte" or "WoW had a better story/plot lines", and my head blows up in rage cause you just "voided" all of that cause you were lasy/couldnt be fked playing the game.
*if its not your fist toon to a new game boost/story skip way cause you have done the hard work all ready and enjoyed alot of what the game has to offer.

  2. Yea pretty much nailed it on the spot. The problem is just that the game dosen't teach you anything and is very much casual content at least dungeons and the MSQ. But as long as people do their due diligence and learn their roles and what not yea it's no problem. But man it would be so great if the game at least taught new people very basic things.

  3. I can understand the story skips cause a lot of people have families and jobs that takes up most of their schedule. But class skips kinda bug me in a way because there are so many people who don't know how to play there class once they boost. It's easy to watch a story summary of what you skipped but learning a class that instantly starts playing at 70 can be daunting. Then you have all the hidden systems and features in the game quest gated and this applies even to people who did play all the way through there is sooooo many things locked behind quest and I've played for two years and still find "new" things to do or grind for

  4. The issue with booting is not the players who use it and end up not knowing how to play their class at endgame, it's the fact that Square offers the service but doesn't do a good job of creating a tutorial for said boosted characters. It is solely Square's fault for letting people do it and not following through with the instruction that should be provided for someone jumping into a high level job right away. I will never hate on anyone for using a boost, though I personally don't recommend it.

  5. The Hall of the Novice is a good resource to learn but to be great it needs more sections, like “Markers” where it teaches about stack markers, earth shaker markers, line markers, etc. And “Enemy Tells” where it shows how a boss can do something like lift its left hand and will attack the left side of the field without any form of AOE indication.

  6. I agree. Take bard for example most people will just use the basic rotation and 3 of the songs, then complain about bard being the worst when half of bards utility is being left untouched.

  7. I've been recently replaying the game from 1-60 so far on an alt wanting to pick up little lore tidbits I'd missed or forgotten about. Most of the dungeons I could breeze through without a problem since I've done them a ton but then I got to Gubal Library. It took around an hour to do cause no one else in my group had done it before and kept failing on just about every boss mechanic. One of them confessed to boosting to get past ARR cause everyone had told him it was bad, the other two didn't comment either way. It didn't seem to matter to me whether they boosted or not cause they all were bad at figuring the game out and getting out of the way of AOEs and the like.

  8. Personally, I had a Diamond Weapon (Normal) with 4 boosters (both healers and both tanks), it was so bad we had to vote abandon after so many tries at explaining the boss mechanics to these newer players. Even if we could carry one or two players who are making mistakes or don't have a good grasp on game mechanics and how they are indicated to you yet, they were too many and in critical roles. I don't care if you boost and you play properly, I just don't want situations like that in which i waste 40 minutes of my life trying to teach 4 players how to play at the last trial of the expansion.

Could it happen with your average "only does msq and never tries to improve" players? It could perfectly happen, I've had some horrendous runs of Diamond Normal with non-boosters. Was it unfortunate that we had such a cursed party composition of 4 boosted players that didn't care to learn about the game? Yes. I suspect all of them came together which is also a terrible decision if you ask me. I simply don't want it to repeat, so I ask for a bit of common sense from everyone I guess.

  9. 1. There's not a lot of boosters

    2. But if someone boosts and complains or boosts and falls flat and change their opinion of the game, then thats ON THEM.

    3. If someone boosts and KNOWS what they should do and learns the game and explores its story for them, they're FINE

  10. Mentioning the accessibility is right on point. I have a handicapped brother who has limited upper mobility and he loves final fantasy. I've been trying to get him to play it but he's so stubborn lol. I think 14 would be perfect for him. I just wish doing combos could be easier on console that would be a nice accessibility option

  11. My personal opinion is that Boosters, without a high level character already, should be required to clear each dungeon from sastasha up before running current dungeons and endgame content with other players outside of running dungeons with trust npcs.

  12. I see no problem in higher level content. I honestly haven't seen but one person that truly seemed like he bought the character. Lower level content is pathetic atm. Tanks running circles around bosses, inpatient dps pull too much trash for tanks and causing wipes. It seems like every dungeon below level 60 is like working with monkeys on crack. It's a shame.

  13. in 8 years , I only had 3 bad experiences with toxic people. That shows how of a positive community this game has.
As a former anxiety trouble guy, I find quite relaxing and satisfying playing this game.

  14. I mean I definitely won’t raid with sprouts at end game. Not a god damn chance. Boost all you want, you still have that icon beside your name and people won’t want to do content with you unless you’re a streamer.

  15. Ive boosted several classes to 70 after i had already obtained 3 lvl80 classes
Mainly because jobs dont feel right until they hit those older level caps, and i work too much to sit down and have time to naturally bring all my classes to 80 from zero
Most jobs to me feel the same so its easy to pick up on them, and even if ur new u just hve to read what the skills do and what they combo with.

  16. i think everyone should play through the entire story at least once before boosting. as for jobs, just hit the practice dummy for a few minutes and you've learned the job.

  17. I have found that after playing through the game. The bosses are pretty good at teaching their own fight. Cleared dalriada with one death from the robot shooting lasers. But literally everything I saw had been shown already in other fights. The problem is if a booster got to there they would have no clue and it would be just horrible.

TLDR the new bosses are easy to learn if you have played the rest of the game. If you haven’t they are not.

  18. The issue is people don't know how bad they are doing, for all sprout/boosted/veteran players. People who do want to improve look for outside resources to get a better idea of how to better perform, but somehow a chunk of the community thinks it's unnecessary to do that for normal content while being deadweight themselves. Apparently optimizing DPS is "speeding" through content lmao.

However, the game is actively against having an official damage meter of any sort. At this point XIV would need to actively hand-hold new players/boosters, like providing solo instances similar to Stone Sky Sea/trust dungeons where a rotation guide is given + their damage can be tracked. As things are, I'm fully for having job boosts only available for people who have leveled a job to a certain level.

  19. I'm guilty of this. Bought Stormblood in late '17 and boosted a ninja to 60. Had ZERO CLUE what I was doing and lost interest…. didn't delete my account though. The hype leading up to Shadowbringers expansion pulled me back in and I started with Lancer/Dragoon from scratch. Made my first alt at ShB launch (Viera) and played MSQ from ARR through Heavensward.

  20. My problem with boosting is that now when you see someone with all the jobs leveled you don't think: Woah this person plays A LOT. You now think: Does he play a lot or does he pay a lot?

  21. I could care less if others boost. It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game. Leveling did little to teach me how to do my rotation properly or a lot of mechanics. I had to go teach myself by watching guides. That Mrhappy guy makes some pretty good guides btw.

  22. I skipped through ARR on a preferred server. For $10 I saved a ton of time, got started with a good chunk of gil, and immediately had access to flying and all aetherytes

Just by doing all of the dungeons and trials I was able to level my character to level 50 within a couple days, and imo it was a perfectly fine experience and I enjoyed my time. I ended up watching some streams like Asmongold's playthrough recently and that caught me up with a lot of the story

Within the first month I had 5 jobs at level 70 and was halfway through Stormblood

Leveling is really easy I don't think anyone should buy a job boost but the story skip was well worth the time save

  23. I respectfully disagree. While it may not be the root cause of people being people, or as you're putting it, people playing poorly, it supplements that as well as presenting other, new problems.

New Problem: There are achievements and mount(s) for leveling all of the jobs. While leveling a job is merely a time investment, and time is money, because people can now pay to skip anywhere between 20 to 69 levels on each job, they reduce the rarity and satisfaction of said achievements.

The way that freshly boosted players supplement poor play is related to the state of the game, and the idea that if you play for longer, you will understand the game better. While not always true, there is certainly a strong correlation. People just learn in different ways, at different speeds and learn for different reasons. There was a long while on Primal though where a ton of folks said they hated Holminster Switch, because as odd as it is to think, that is the first dungeon for many boosted players. It has rather advanced telegraphs and boss patterns for a very first dungeon. Compare to the first dungeon that players get if they play the game from level 1, Sastasha. Literally, everything about Holminster Switch is more difficult, and everything the player has to understand about their rotation is also more difficult. Starting with this may improve their play faster, but I know of a bunch of booster players who give up because they get off put by dying a ton in their first dungeon.

While we could think as you do, about the story not really challenging you, there are tons of people who ARE challenged by the story. Whether it's due to anxiety of playing with others, slow learning, being new, or getting unlucky… it is possible for a failure state to result from MSQ content. The one that's currently most common in group content is Titania story mode in SHB, and then for the solo MSQ instanced battles, I believe it is still the Thancred vs. Ranjit battle? That most folks on the low skill, low effort end of things are having trouble with? I know it's hard for you to conceptualize, as a guide maker and streamer, you've long been at a mastery level for this game. Others, not so much. There are folks out there who still fail solo instanced battles on the Easy/Very Easy difficulty setting, selectable after they fail.

The other thing I disagree with is this notion that you need outside sources to improve at FFXIV. Many people do seek guides, because they have no knack for learning fights/fighting, this is true. However, if we needed outside sources to teach us how to play then the outside sources that have been compiled and made by third parties could not possibly be made in the first place. This still holds true for bridging from MSQ to Savage content. No one's going to learn to play OPTIMALLY on their own, but even in high end content, optimal isn't required. You can play at a very impressive level, self-taught, many do.

Anywho, this comment's too long now, way more said than I needed to say. You have a nice day MrHappy. I don't hate your level boost vid. I think that it's a helpful resource, but I will say that it'd take quite a lot for me to not disagree with you on this, as I disagree on a fundamental level.

  24. I agree. I would recommend people not to buy boosters but at the end of the day is up to them what they do it doesn't really affect me.

I also agree about the problem being a human one not a booster one. I have been with both players who boosted and players who didn't who knew what they were doing but also had the opposite players who had no idea what they were doing.

The worst experiences I had in 14 weren't actually with players who didn't know what they were doing but with veterans who felt like I should play my class a certain way.

For example I was playing gunbreaker and I did a big pull. I was almost dead, had almost no health and my defensive cooldowns were all spend. Had 9 seconds on one and healer(whm) kept letting my health fall as low as possible more than I felt comfortable with so when I had a sliver of health I popped superbolide and after the pull white mage starts lecturing me about using superbolide cuz it makes healing harder. Fine. I just continue with the dungeon but at that moment a dps called out the whm for not using Holy. And the whole dungeon they kept arguing back and forward till the end of the dungeon non stop. The other dps even told them to stop but they ignored them. It ruined that dungeon run for me.

So yeah, problem isn't boosting is people

  25. The majority of the "bad" players I've met in the game have a weird entitlement to their way of playing, even if it is to the detriment of their party members. They don't like to take critique and the tools that are actually used for improvement are against the ToS by a technicality.

The few times I've tried to bring up improvement tactics in game, i.e. not cure spamming, double pulling in dungeons, using aoe's in mobs, I've been asked why I care so much for casual content. The ffxiv community gets praised for how good it is, and not saying that it isn't, but we definitely have a confusingly high amount of players who seem to take pride in being a casual who plays badly.
