  1. FFXIV I think appeals more to people who typically don't like MMO's. It's a crazy amount of single player story content, it's a dress up simulator and it's really social. I ended up stopping in Shadowbringers from playing since 2.0, but I'm not a story driven individual at all and really value economy and resources. NW offers that much more to players like me who like that kind of stuff, but the knee jerk reaction from some XIV players is very disappointing.

  2. Never really knew you prior to coming across your vids on New World. Can appreciate your positivism and enthusiasm for the game.

Having played the latest iteration of XIV during the first 3 years post ARR launch and New World over the course of the last year I certainly feel as if New World has taken a major leap forward. The game got a lot of flak for issues in the first months, often pointing to ARR as a smooth, flawless launch of an MMO. However, this just wasn't founded if you ask me. FFXIV had many issues post ARR launch as well. It took roughly 4 – 6 months to truly stabilize the lot of this out. Not only a similar timeframe, but also similar issues; stability issues, server lag, duping. People just tend to forget.

And sure, with a game which has been under development since 2005, initially release in 2010, to be re-released a few years later. One may certainly expect that such a game with a total development history of 17 years has more content and features.

However, New World sets a very good start in terms of world and exploration, weapon mastery and trade skill mastery, and in my opinion more interesting early game instanced content than what FFXIV offered in the first year.

Beyond that, a lot of early post launch frustrations have also been tackled since. Watermark out of the window, the since introduced expertise system having become much more rewarding. That is to say, the path from 500 – 600 is one which is completed much, much sooner these days. With only a few hours a day, it's something which isn't out of reach with about 3 to 4 weeks-worth of play to get your main gear there. And in terms of instanced PvP we're also seeing more and more of a shift towards equalizing gear. Cross-server on the horizon. Et cetera.

Obviously, the future is still open to go in many directions and like any game it's not without its flaws either, however, I definitely believe New World will be in a very strong position in a year or 2 – 3. Where we'll likely see it as one of the Top 3 MMO's on the market. And even then, for an MMO really, it's only just growing up. 5 to 10 years post launch really. WoW hitting peak 7 years post launch. FFXIV, not totally up to date with the latest figures but in 2021 at least still gaining traction after starting to truly rise again in 2018, the latter already being about 4 years post launch and with that talking at least 7-8 years post launch before it hit peak; peak probably not being there yet.

With that, it remains important to be able to look longterm here. And having played many lackluster MMO's around launch, and many MMO's which rose out to the top, I feel confident to say that New World, both in what it initially had to offer, as well as with the changes it's made thus far, is leaning far more towards the side of success than failure.

  3. As someone who started playing less than a week ago, one thing I immediately noticed and enjoyed was a more engaging combat system. I’m over tab targeting. And as far as action combat in an MMO, new world is the best I’ve experienced.

  4. My biggest issue with New World is that players who just want to gather stuff in the open world are penalized with lower drop rates (lower gathering luck) if they aren't flagged for pvp. Why does the game want to coerce players into doing something they don't find fun? If it was fun to do, then players would do it on their own. Since most players don't enjoy being ganked while peacefully gathering, the game has decided to coerce these players into being cannon fodder for the gankers. No thanks.

  5. This will be interesting to watch as I hated new world after only playing a couple hours (the non tab target combat was the biggest hurdle). I think I stopped after making it to the first settlement. Probably the biggest mmo disappointment that I’ve had and I played ffxiv 1.0 LOL. I might try it again in the future after they work on it a bit more. They REALLY need a mini map.

  6. okay can someone explain to me the economy being friendly to casuals? cause the way it's described here doesn't seem that friendly. it seems like I have to contently online/plugged into the economy in order to do anything meaningful. which just seems like a worse version of the FF14 system cause at least in that their are daily crafts where you can some what guess what's going to be popular and more importantly you want have to fight for a resource. I as a casual player will be competing with hardcore crafters that will just get to the nodes first.

    am I wrong here?

  7. Pvp in FF14 is not good compare to any pvp modes/games on the market.. you are very misinformed on that one particular thing. Good video for the rest always nice to see your content!

  8. Just started playing New World last night. I played at launch and didn’t get very far, the main reason being that there was nothing in the first 10 or so levels that made me feel invested in this new world at all. Now they are throwing the story at players from the start, there is a sense of mystery to what the heck is going on here now. Going to see how far I get this time.

  9. Lets see when he stops throwing shades against FFXIV with his video titles and thumbnails. With all his recent videos about FFXIV and even removed the most controversial ones.

  10. I’ve always loved the crafting aspect of mmos. And the economy is also very fun to engage with for me. Back in wow wotlk I would buy out all the titansteel. In ff14, I liked playing the MB also, but I got to 50m gil and had nothing to spend it on. I didn’t luck out on housing so all the housing items were pointless. There is nothing to spend gil on in ff14 and the economy doesn’t exist at a high level.

  11. Hello Fellow Ginger 😉

I actually played about 60 hrs of New World when it originally came out. Did not end up collecting me for the long term. But with the fresh servers coming out next week I will for sure try it out again. Have some fun. And see what I think after letting the grass grow.

  12. Ok so crafters making best in slot allows RWT real world trading for items and will ruin the game or this fantasy fictional player driven economy you seem to think will be a thing. Secondly new world is not even a complete game at best it 80% of a game and even that is limited. Thirdly the audience is different to many other games it seems like they went all in on open large scale was not unlike ESO and the limited story or lived in feel of the world and lack of roleplay and community makes the game a FLOPP id love to debate this a people chase a game like new world maybe based on paid promotion of some kind the same people who promoted genshin impact.

  13. Lmao wut, this has to be a joke because anyone unironically comparing a bare bones mmo like new world to an established decade long top mmo like ff14 are clearly either lying, trying to b8 arguments or just have gone full on delusional.

New world is extremely barebones, it could become an interesting game worth playing in 4-6 years of more content if they focus more on content and accessibility instead of unironically expecting casuals will socialize to do content instead of leaving, there is a reason people leveling didnt touch expeditions, we dont like socializing to do content, we just want to do content, and new world lacks in that regard by a lot and the forced socialization due to lack of an AUTO group finder kills it further.

  14. I tried FFXIV many many times since the beta prior to ARR ( I own the collectors edition ). But it never satisfied my itch from FF11. I'm waiting for the next FF mmo or FF11 remake ( OMEGALOL ). Until then I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see if the League mmo is good or not.

  15. Player driven economies require that most of the gear is not bound to character or account. A downfall of most games where as soon as you equip or enhance(whatever the games calls it) said item, it becomes bound.

Which is where FFXIV fails, as most everything you get is bound to character. So there's really no economy in it. Mostly just for crafting mats of whatever the latest high end crafted gear is.

Linear progressions isn't always a bad thing, especially with multiple class choices. In most cases with such things, a simple linear is easy to balance, over a multitrack setup. Not that FFXIV has any real sense of balance beyond, dev favorites and flavor of the month(new class) being kept as the best.

All MMOs are social games. The main thing here, is that FFXIV wasn't designed around the ingame chat being a thing. Remember, it's was designed for Playstation, not PC. But, the option for ingame chat is there. So, this isn't the devs fault, it's the players fault.

As far as open world dungeons(events) and raids. Then Guild Wars 2 will always be king there. Which also means it's a highly social game. As you run into this aspect of it starting at level 1, as soon as you leave thee tutorial. And having heard all five of the reasons. Every last one that is mentioned, except maybe the multitrack class specs, can be found in Guild Wars 2. It's been a while since I played GW2 though, life interfered and I never really got back around to it. So, not entirely sure how the gearing works there now.

And it really is a target customer difference. FFXIV targets the more casual players, with a place for hard core. New World targets the more hard core, with a place for casual. And Guild Wars being the best at being an all around type of game.

But then, I can only really speak from playing FFXIV and GW2. I don't touch Amazon or any of their products, including New World.

  16. they NEED to get NW to consoles. it would put an enormous spark into it's community and overall shelf life. also, I hope to see you around eso sometime. I'm having a blast casually playing and doing the one thing that makes the game stand alone in the mmo genre: making unique and powerful builds. you can do end game raids with 100+ different combos of sets and skills, unlike ff14 where you have a BiS set for each class and if you don't have that then you don't participate. ff14 still stands at the top of the mmo genre for me, but it's good to mix it up.

  17. New world and FFXIV are two different games and I wish ppl stopped comparing them as the same. Both games are great and I feel this video is starting a war by the way it's title. Both games do different things for different ppl. I get why you want to move on from FFXIV but it's doing more harm then good when you keep mentioning said game. Let's just enjoy both games and just talk about what makes them both great. I have friend's who like FF14 and have some who enjoy New world more. It's not a contest and it's great there's a lot of different MMOs. I'm even enjoying lost ark but I don't compare the two because they're doing different things for different audience.

  18. Do you think its a little too early for a fresh new world server? Barely been a year and they already wanna do it. Is there a reason a fresh server is happening so fast? Like are the other servers okay? Anyway just curious and thinking of checking out the game as a new player for fresh.
