  1. I specifically never use LB3 as Red Mage bc the red aftereffects cover the players screen and not just from the explosion. Blm and Smn make an explosion on a certain place but you can still see aoes around you, but Rdm just blankets the entire screen and its soooo easy to kill your entire raid.

  2. aside from RDM, none of the lb3s are really that distracting in raid. DRK is definitely my favourite though. Don't know if it's a bit early for you to be watching it, but you should definitely react to the Kindred Ultima weapon Ultimate speedrun at some point – they do some insane shit (like taking their gear off and putting it back on immediately before the fight starts, so that they start on like 50% hp to generate LB gauge, and purposely getting hit by things you would usually dodge for the same reason) it's nuts

  3. I'm a little annoyed at that specific video's angles. They did a high angle to show off the raid-wide effect, close back shot for the particles, and a close front shot for the animation. But unfortunately, they don't show the one angle that actually matters: Your gameplay camera! It should be behind the character at a high angle, as that is the POV they would have initially designed the effects around. It's really evident in the Dark Knight one as you can't see the reality tear, and also in the Gunbreaker as the close angle removes half the particle effects that would otherwise be there.

For me, Dark Knight's is unparalleled. The initial windup where he tears the hole in space, the dripping effect of the dark energy, spilling and spreading across the entire boss arena. That short channel before he hits the ground, summoning a spell circle to enact the magicks of the Limit Break. That creates the sphere of spell circles around the entire encounter, consuming the dark energy and creating that shield around himself (actually, it plays on your entire party, and it looks incredible) that mirrors the orb formation of his Shadow Wall and Blackest Knight abilities. Yes, some of the DPS are a little more flashy with their damage, but no other job exudes the class and style while practically telling a story with their LB3 animation.

  4. The melee LBs ends up being the less obstructive. Even the ones that are more flashy mostly occupy a small space next to or inside of the boss/target. It's actually a little crazy how much some of the caster/healer LBs obstruct telegraphs or other visual tells. Edit: the tanks LBs can be as flashy as they want because you aren't taking damage for a while. If you're going to take off points for being distracting, Red Mage and Sage are probably the worst offenders, with Black Mage and Astrologian somewhere behind.

  5. Tank LB3 is only required in 2 fights in the whole game. They do block a lot of vision, but for those requires instances, the raid can't attack the boss anyways, so it's a non-issue.

Also Red Mage main here – nothing makes me happier than using my LB3 Ver-flashbang lmao.

  6. What makes LB3 most memorable is how they get used during raids.
    – Tank LB3 is one of the rarest used, but there are raids that specifically require it so it is the most thematic to use and makes you feel maximum like a tank in that moment. I have seen a quick thinking tank save a clear before by using LB3 to protect the party from damage caused by a missed body-check etc.
    – Healer is used more often, and everyone is rooting for you when you use it so you feel like a hero.
    – DPS is used most often, and feels best when you time it as a finishing blow on the enemy. In the 24-man alliance raids, you will sometimes see each party reach their LB3 at the same time and having multiple animations go off at once is a spectacular finale.

  7. In terms of when lbs are used:

Tanks: used to block certain ultimate attacks that will 100% kill you otherwise, only 2 examples of this appear in normal content, the other use of it is to survive an attack that you know you are going to fail and cause a wipe on, both of these scenarios are near nonexistent in normal so tank lb usage is mostly restricted to savages/extremes where it has its uses decently often.

Healers: full party rez, so by far the most common even in normal content if people are dying a lot it can help, it’s usefulness continues into hard content as it is basically a 1 time get out of party wipe free mech so it is by far the most used.

Ranged and casters: used on adds or dual bosses, most of which are quite rare in ff14 except in dungeons but you can’t get lb3 there anyway, phys range is intended for dual bosses/adds or adds that are grouped up, and magic ranged for spread out or static adds, but the most common use for them is when the melee forget they can lb.

    Finally, melee:
Melee lbs are used whenever anything else is not needed for the damage boost, there are scenarios where melee lb can be a long term damage loss if you use it mid 2 minute window, but by and large all it harms is your parse, so it should be used when you have a chance, and you don’t think it will be needed for heal or tank lb anytime soon.

The flashiness of lbs seems to be somewhat based on how often they get used, particularly tank lbs, as whenever they are used you generally don’t have any mechs to focus on and if you do, tank lb will take care of that so you can look at the flashy animation. Healer lbs are the exception to this rule, but if you are using a heal lb everyone is probably dead, so they don’t have to look at mechs anyway.

  8. You will see but pld one has a big importance later on, for reasons that are spoilers. Also all tank LB will impede vision, you only use them in certain moments in certain duty. you owe pld an official apology in the future and you will know when! PLD it's the LB down the line because it's featured in the future by official CBU3. And that is rare. There is a reason why its biig and flashy and you cant see anything behind it…it's a sign of you idiot…go behind it, because like any LB it has an AOE. if you dont see anything you in the clear…if you see something…well you maybe just made a TPK depending on the content…Just as a simple explenation of why you are not suposed to see anything with it…its literally a big freaking huge wall between you and the boss AOE that will instant kill you!

  9. Imagine thinking a limit break will obstruct your ability to press buttons, especially tanks when they use it during mandatory LB3 or die stages where you can't even attack the boss to begin with. What DPS are you going to lose when the boss is untargetable?

  10. My favorites are definitely RPR & DNC, but I play those jobs a lot. I do main WAR, but I almost never use LB as a tank anyway so it is nice to see them shown. Loved your reactions to them all and to be fair everyone has a different preference and I think your tier list is pretty fair. But can't please everyone as we all have different likes and dislikes. 😄
