  1. Summoner needs a lot of lore to explain why are we getting mechanical Bahamut instead other dozens of summons.
Why is it important enough to make summoner the only one with 4 minutes rotation.

  2. I still can't believe Pictomancer is a real class in FFXIV now. EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE FUCKING GREEN MAGE BUT NOPE, PICTOMANCER! Excited to see more lore about these classes ESPECIALLY Pictomancer.

  3. I’m so glad you clarified the disconnect I had for Viper being a hunter. I tried to justify the weapon and fighting style as a normal hunter but that’s just it. They aren’t normal hunters. They also took inspiration from a viper to use the twin blades to strike with the fury and speed of one and further honed it down the ages. So that question no longer burdens me.

As for Pictomancer, I’m an artist so I love the idea of using your skills to enact your intent on the world. Also entertaining like being an animator. Which they are after a fashion.

  4. I had planned to pick up Viper as soon as I saw the class, and suspected Travanchet would not be my first character through Dawntrail. With our without the lore, I looked at the fighting style and felt this was a FAR better mesh for one of my alts, my previous main, who followed story progression from Rogue to Ninja. The abrupt tonal shift from being a shadow walking enforcer of the pirate code to staring in an episode of Naruto was just too far a stretch for me. I tried other classes, but only AST's stargazing/navigation possibilities potentially fit his background. And though I love healing, being a healer would not be his first choice of vocation. He was a rogue, and would have made a great upright thief, if he just wasn't so put off by pirate society in general. Hence his looking for an out…

But now hearing your take on the scant Viper details we have, I am incredibly hopeful this mesh is going to go much better than I expected. It sounds a much shorter step from hunting oathbreakers, cheats, & murderers to hunting truly dangerous and probably less morally bankrupt monsters. We'll find out in just a few days. 🥰

  5. I'm definitely excited to see what the job quests have to say about Viper beyond the dev comments, but really I just want to get my hands on the job
The weapon(s) I wanted for a second scouting, the playstyle I wanted after the job was revealed, the job actions look fast and strong, god
With my main being a xaela girl it even kinda fits her to take the role of a hunter/battler
I want this job so bad

  6. Isn't summoner just a form of watered down creation magic? You are summoning aspects of the primals, which themselves were a form of watered down creation magic.

If both pictomancer and summoner are forms of creation magic, then are they just different means to reach the same end?

  7. The creation magic angle for picto is spot on.. though i wouldnt call it watered down.. the ancients as you stated had focused thier magics into specific areas… the pictomancers strenght is in thier imagination itself… the shortlived things they create are simply a result of gameplay mechanics one could argue the true pictomancer strength in imagination in all aspects from spells to creatures to landscapes from a lore perspective would have limitless potential without game play mechanics in the way… kind of 4th wall stuff but you get the idea

  8. Just not feeling Viper from what I’ve seen. Looks bland and unoriginal. The lore described has no synergy with the dual blade style. I mean what about hunting more dangerous than usual monsters requires you to use two blades. This is especially bad if you look at the jobs they could have added (puppet master, Geomancer, Ranger, Rune Knight).

Pictomancer on the other hand seems fun and very keyed in on the lore. However I doubt the gameplay will give it the proper shine it deserves. After all how can a class based on creativity thrive in a game hell bent on removing all class identity?

  9. as for me, i asked my friends if i should stick with summoner for my main or actually become either viper or picto for the new story. My friends said Viper, so viper i will be xD but i'm also very stubborn (and a fic writer xD), so i wanted a lore reason for my WoL to specifically choose being a Viper. The answer i chose was simple for me; he's trying to break away from the legacy he was forced to take from the moment he was born, and now that he's truly free of it, he wants to move away from the arcane as much as he can. He knows he can't leave it all completely behind but this is a step in that direction he chooses for himself, just as he chose to become Reaper for a time.

i'm excited for both and will be getting both either way!

  10. I still want more fairy content. Scholar quests, sylph tribe, shadowbringers pixies, aloalo, etc. were not enough. I wonder what the next fairy will look like.

  11. Admittedly I'll be leveling through Dawntrail as Viper and, if I like it well enough, making it my main job in my static simply because of the Zidane references. But hearing this lore is actually really interesting for my WoL! He's a male viera and was a wood-warder before heeding the call to adventure. Becoming a hunter of dangerous beasts and reattuning himself to the more natural world would be an interesting way of getting back to his roots, in a sense.

  12. Calling Viper a hunter is underselling its identity…youre making the assumption Dragoons dont "hunt" dragons…the twin snake aesthetic are a very important thing about the job in general just like Dragoons uses the power of dragons.

  13. As someone a fan of the Ranger/Monster Hunter Style with the dual blades and speed with that physical magical twist it's a dream come true for me wanting something like this in Final Fantasy XIV. Finally able to play the style of my Warrior of like I've always imagined them as.

  14. It's… probably not a huge revelation that my parents named me after the archon Relm. I've also been using the mado brush as my weapon of choice for ages, so…
