  1. Uematsu-san, this video is dedicated to you. if you ever see this, you are a god amongst men. Thanks for gifting the world your music.

P.S. is there any other cinematics/trailers/videos you like me to react to?

  2. Actually those aren't "the warrior of Light from the past" thats actually current. That guy with the age is supposed to be you. Also the people knew about Dalmund the plot of 1.0 was Garland trying to drop Dalmund on everyone and you were trying to stop it. So yeah, everyone was well aware of what was coming

  3. I'm so happy to see your videos. They're exactly what I felt when I started playing the game. It feels so nostalgic. I'm feel so happy whenever other people play FFXIV and appreciate the game.

4:17 the WoD's reaction, "Oh no. We've failed". makes me tear up. You can feel it in his eyes

  4. In your spare time, I think you should watch this guy's stream who was there in 1.0. The first 6 episodes at least. It's call "The Rise and Fall of Final Fantasy XIV." Each episode is about 12 to 15 mins long. It opened my eyes to everything and it became so much clearer. When that happened I looked at this game in a whole new light. Just do a search on youtube for the title or the link for episode 1 is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ9CmxaQ3q8

  5. Thanks for reacting to this! Imagine the hype around the second part of the cinematic. Having gone through Turns 1-5 for months…and then eventually Turns 6-9 come out, and you complete those. And then the Final Coil of Bahamut comes out…and your reward for completing Turn 12 was the second cinematic. For so long, over multiple raid tiers, probably no one expected to be rewarded with such an epic second cinematic to the already loved first part you've just reacted to. It was quite a time to be playing the game.

I look forward to reliving the many experiences as you continue on your adventures in Eorzea.

  6. You should youtube "Final Fantasy XIV : Last Moments". The last moments of 1.0. You see Dalamud descending and you can faintly hear Answers in the far distance.

  7. Recently (thanks to you experiencing coil for the first time, haha) I went back to the official ffxiv forums and looked back at threats made on the day the 1.x servers went down. Everyone had been crying, the cutscene hit everyone so hard emotionally, and then people started saying goodbye to their friends, sharing their memories, screenshots of their journey through the game, the friends they made along the way, and so on. Because 1.x was a much more old-school MMO more in the style of FFXI, people had bonded a lot more than the modern conveniences of matchmaking and instanced content allow nowadays. Also, because the game was pretty bad overall still, the community was also quite small, so most people knew each other one way or another, so it was very emotional to see all these familiar names and faces for the potentially last time 😭

I have so many fond memories of the story and community of 1.x, and it's one of those things that just stay with you forever. Sometimes I wish there was an instance or something for new players to live through the events of 1.x (and they had that to some degree during a former ingame event in..2019 I think?, but I know it just wouldn't be the same. It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing and I'm just so happy I got to be a part of it 🙂

I remember the rising dread as normal field enemies kept growing in size, the red creepy moon in the sky came closer and closer, prophets told us scary predictions and our characters were plagued by nightmares when we went to bed at the inn.
I remember the story unfolding, Cid arriving in Eorzea, helping with founding the Grand Companies (that didn't exist before that) and Louisoix gently leading us towards protecting the world as we clashed with Nael and Gaius from the Empire.
I remember the final days, after the final save of player data, when the devs pulled out all the stops. The cities got overrun by wave upon wave of almost unbeatable enemies and everyone worked hard together to somehow bring them down and when all else failed, players started praying instead and then invisible GMs killed the enemies for us. Outside of the cities, the aetherytes became corrupted and stopped working and camps would lose their protection (which mattered a lot more back in 1.x because the overworld was scary, aggressive lvl 100 enemies could just roam a starting zone no questions asked). We'd form protective barriers with our mounts in front of the main city and on the final day, we marched to Carteneau on foot, the whole server, while neverending lightning flashed over a red sky while a haunting rendition of the Answers theme played (the song in this video). And it was just such a somber and hopeless feeling… to be honest, when we arrived we fought the servers more than the Garlean Empire (xD) but it was still pretty epic for those who managed to stay online and see enemies actually appear, and during the final minutes we lost comms with our commanders and then the screen went black and this video played. The dread when Bahamut cracked out of that artifical moon, the pain when Louisoix sacrificed himself for us, teleported us away to the future…I don't know anyone who wasn't in tears.
Of course by then we technically knew the game was gonna return a year later, but we had no clue how that version would turn out to be, so it truly felt like the end of an era.

Sorry for the wall of text, got absorbed in memories a bit there 😅

  8. The fact that it were up to the players to find out that the moon was ever slowly getting closer by comparing screenshots is amazing. Square Enix did an amazing job

  9. My brother and I stood on the cliffside overlooking the end when the servers shut down. We made a wish as the moon fell that the next world would be better. I feel like that wish came true. Though I'm not consistent playing, I still have a good time when I do.

I played WoW for a long time, I just didn't think it was an experience worth continuing as the community became more disconnected. I still follow the lore, I just don't feel like the game has been in a good state for a while.

  10. I remember seeing this when 2.0 was released and I cried even if I didn't understand anything of what was happening. I still cry when I see it, and I've seen it SO many times xD

  11. I was there at the Battle of Carteneau in 1.0 when the servers went down, and this cinematic played on the laucher. This brings me to tears every time. My character today is my 1.0 character from that time. As broken as it was, i still miss parts of 1.0. Ugh, so amazing. I love this game so much.

  12. If I understand it correctly, no one fighting had any idea what was going to happen. The Garleans thought Project Meteor would purge the world of Primals, and only a handful on the Alliance side even knew what Dalamud really was. Of course, the Garleans didn't know that the person bringing down the moon wasn't really sane and hadn't been for quite some time, and they really didn't know what was inside the artificial moon.

Watch Noclip's documentary on FFXIV 1.0. It's incredibly insightful and informative. It's also has some surprisingly frank words from Yoshi-P about his thoughts on 1.0. He is not kind, or the typical Japanese corporate avoidance of criticizing a predecessor.

  13. I remember the fun part of this
1 week before server going down they announce that playing at that point will not save any progress to 2.0
So many people stop playing after that announcement
But for those who keep playing
The sky was tormented as dalamud keep descending to the ground
Makes all kinda of monsters feeling restless and attacking the major cities
And on final day everyone gather in mor dhona, fighting empire troops until the server goes down
    Aand that cinematics pops out
The best part was, up until that point, nobody knows what was inside dalamud
I personally thought it will hit and its over
But Yoshi had a plan XD
