  1. I didn't mind not being the main focus in the story. My problem was Wuk being too much of a focus and us not being much of a mentor to her and just her bodyguard really.

  2. While it's not the main topic of conversation I'd like to add something to the Wuk Lamat critique that I haven't seen discussed much or at all: the character is ugly. I mean, physically ugly. She has a bestial face and body with a human voice. It's uncanny and unattractive. In a visual medium, perceived attractiveness of a character does influence how tolerable that character is in large doses. I just assumed that maybe it was just me, but I look around and I see barely anyone using their free fantasia to switch to female hrothgar. Maybe on RP servers they're the hotness but I'm not seeing them on Primal.

Also, while I agree with you that it's difficult or impossible for the story to work with the WOL being mostly an observer, IF you're going to have strong 1B, it's got to be a character that I actually give a crap about, which means 1) The character needs to be charismatic and complex and 2) It needs to be a character that I had a connection to BEFORE the big story began. If Endwalker had been a story about Krile or Urianger or Estinien or Venat or, hell, if it had been a story about Namingway, then at least I'd already have some investment to pay off.

  3. Players: It's gonna be a vacation expansion
    MSQ: WoL goes on vacation.
Players: where's WoL?! This expansion sucks!

All kidding aside, I enjoyed the MSQ. I did wish to have more VA this time around but I do understand FF14 supports multiple languages and it would be a logistical nightmare if it were fully VA. I've thought Wuk Lamat was a fun character. She reminded me of younger self when starting on the new RPG on PS1. Excitable, optimistic, and naive. I suppose others found that annoying. I wonder if their opinion would sway if Wuk Lamat was replaced with a young Miqote with those big eyes. Perhaps then how she acted in MSQ would make more sense.

  4. DT as a story. Had a good premise. Had good characters marred by mediocre pacing and direction.

The raids wiped that entire demerit from my brain and I'm just playing the raids now… Its terrible. I dont even gain much out of it but they're so fun.

  5. It's a 3/10 for me
Loved the new raid but there's nothing left to really keep me so I've uninstalled the game until the next patch…
My faith in their ability to write a good story has plummeted, I don't know if they have what it takes to turn this all around with the new writers.

  6. I've been incredibly hesitant to get the expansion when I resub for the Rising event. I've been hearing and reading how terrible the story is, how annoying Wuk is throughout, and how people are better off skipping the cutscenes. I play FF games (and especially XIV) for the story, so if the story is terrible, I'm not going to enjoy it much.

Yes, some of the raid fights look fun, sure. But if the storyline for even that section is lacking, I probably won't like it much. I liked the EW 8-man raid story and the 24-man one too – and their fights were fun. I didn't like the ShB 8-man raid story much and those fights were mostly annoying to me. I think I only did most of them only once other than E12 I did way too many times. The Nier raid was a cool story, but the fights were sometimes annoying.

In the end, I'm still on the fence – I'm leaning towards if I get the expansion, I'll be skipping through the MSQ as much as possible – which isn't what I want to do, but if it's heavily focused on Wuk and Wuk is that badly written, I'm not going to be able to put up with that much.
