Still no producer live letter or any media regarding DT reception. I can understand some hesitancy for brand image, but the absence of feedback is concerning. Seems to be much larger issues behind the scenes.
DT has been hit and miss for me, but more hit than miss. I'm satisfied.
I'm just leveling everything. I got crafters and gatherers done, just focusing on combat and avatar leveling.
Here's the thing about DT at this point: it doesn't matter about the story as long as the content is top notch. It's SB on steroids.
I would say my feelings on Dawntrail can be summarized as being excited for the future even when being underwhelmed in the MSQ launch of base 7.0. People are justified to be dubious about its future or even upset if it’s not to their taste, but we shouldn’t attack people for expressing their interest in the future, or their dissatisfaction either. I still enjoy my time in this game, doing the Arcadion raid tier, leveling other jobs that I haven’t played very much, and I am hopeful for its future and the developers hearing feedback that the community has provided. But I’m also playing other games and don’t force myself to play if I would rather be doing something else. Not every hit always lands, but that doesn’t mean it never will hit again.
I have gone thru the story 3 times so far and it doesn't grow on you, this is also the most disappointment as story wise I felt for FF14. I have no real excitement for future msq now. I do look forward to the raid story.
Dawntrail for me falls into the realms you touched on in previous videos: a tale of two expansions. You've got the leveling experience and the MSQ, and then you've got the endgame. Endgame has been a big win for me for the most part. I've loved Arcadion, I've come to enjoy the lv 100 dungeons despite my initial impressions of them being admittedly unfairly soured by the myriad stumbles of the MSQ, and I've been having fun casually leveling my main jobs for each role as and where I can across the couple hours of game time I get each day.
The leveling experience and the MSQ were a different story, though. I've touched on my frustrations with it in your comments before so I won't harp on that again, but suffice it to say my feelings on Dawntrail's leveling experienced were strongly mixed. In fact, they were so strongly mixed that I wrote a 14,500 word retrospective about it on my Substack about a month ago. Even with that I didn't hit on all the points I wanted to, be they the good, the bad, the mid, or the ugly. When I take everything we currently have into account, this expansion is an extremely mixed experience the likes of which I haven't experienced since since WoW's Cataclysm expansion, and that still doesn't really compare.
I’ve played since launch and have slowly lost interest in the game. I no longer raid, I don’t actually really like any of the jobs, hell I don’t even REALLY like any of the races. I was hoping dawntrail would rekindle my love for the world but instead it’s pushed me away even more. Frankly I want to quit, but I own a large house and don’t want to lose it…
"I really enjoy tanking right now, Paladin, Warrior, Gunbreaker, Not Dark Knight. They're all great!"
I think the real issue about Dawntrail is how it showed the underbelly of the "you cannot talk bad about the MSQ ever" crowd. I wont stray from my point but my biggest bone to pick is with people who use buzzword phrases "an -ist, -phobe or both" as a means of defense for what should be a critical discussion on how the writing took three huge steps back. Just any valid criticism of the pacing, characters, voice direction, and themes are met with "you're just an -ist and -phobe" for not liking it.
If we as consumers of art cannot critically evaluate a piece of art/product then its just the phrase of "Shut up, consume, and get hyped for the next product, peasant" being pushed by other consumers.
People want good stories, people do not want to be preached at. You can place a moral into a story without destroying the adventure of said story. The writing team has shown flashes of doing so through ARR-EW. The whole over-the-top hitting you on the head moralism of Dawntrail was just…jarring to say the least on top of Wuk "I want to be Hokage Pirate King" Lamat.
It seems to me that what is going to keep XIV afloat until 8.0 is the leveling/raiding side of things. Not choosing a sole lead story writer and choosing to write by committee once again is going to hurt the game story wise for the next 8 years.
To me what sums up Dawntrail's MSQ….A story and characters of wasted potential thrown out for direct favoritism of one specific character.
I haven't been playing when either Eureka or Bozja were current. I poked my head into Eureka for a few hours and it didn't grab me, mostly because I was so far behind. I started right before 5.3 released and by the time I got leveled, the Bozja train had largely left the station. I was able to reach DR and tried to complete it twice but was never able to (hours in queue, the best it could do was 8 people and the group fell apart after wiping on the 3rd or 4th boss). Combined with the fact that I thought the special action system was unintuitive and the only way to even try to get a DR group was to walk out to the NPC because they made them in a way that they couldn't be matchmade, I reached a point where I actually feel a visceral anger when I think of the entire bozja content block.
Hopefully the DT version will be far better if I do it when people are still in the zones progressing.
I’m doing a ton of stuff that I’ve never done before. I’m working on all gatherers and doing the gatherers beast tribes. I’m also doing the island
crap, and old relics I never finished. Doing old savage and extreme content
if you think people are pessimistic now you werent playing during stormblood
I feel like the community is gonna sadly kill the game, they want msq to be shb and shb lite lol this game needs to divert away from shadowbringers issue
There's a recurring problem with FFXIV's content planning: the .0 patch is the second worst content draught, and it comes immediately after the worst content draught (a .58.) A lot of people are going to be bored with the game until more content is available. I don't know what they can do to address that though.
Excalibur might be my favourite weapon in the game, absolutely worth the grind

Dawntrail is such a polarized mixed bag. The non-MSQ content is phenomenal, dungeons and trials are the best they've ever been (haven't yet done the raids)…..
BUT the MSQ content is so utterly awful. Which is a big problem because FFXIV has, from day 1, been toted as THE story-based MMO. Most play XIV for the story, and all the other stuff is just a bonus. The story is why FFXIV is my favorite game ever. But not a damn thing in this MSQ works. There's a couple good ideas, but were squandered. Actually, that's a great way to describe 7.0's story: Squandered potential.
Not just that, but the amount of plain illogical and dumb shit in the story is staggering. The Hanu Hanu forgetting their yearly festival is what feeds them while their elder and some other guy remember but chose to say nothing and allowed their own people to starve, Moblins' contract prohibiting them from talking to their contractees and have to blindly guess their needs, literally everything in regards to Mamook, us saying nothing to the child with Levin Sickness despite us going through a goddamn 10-year long story about how to solve this exact problem, the list goes on. And that's to say nothing about how every character speaks and behaves in such a homogenized, basic, and rudimentary way it's borderline insulting.
I plan on getting everything to 100. I still have jobs in the 60's, and i don't do savage, so i have plenty of time.
After Endwalker: Whatttt the story is over but I don't want to move on!!
After Dawntrail: yeah FFXIV is cooked it's time to move on from this game.
