MORE Mistakes New Players Make In FFXIV…

FFXIV is a rough game for beginners, and there are a lot of mistakes that you can make, but at the very least don’t make all the ones that I’ve made!

I’ve made a lot of mistakes in Final Fantasy XIV as a total beginner, so I’ve put together this little guide so you can avoid them.

Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

More about Final Fantasy XIV:

“Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG and features a persistent world in which players can interact with each other and the environment. Players create and customize their characters for use in the game, including name, race, gender, facial features, and starting class. Unlike in the original release, players may only choose to be a Disciple of War or Magic as a starting class—Disciples of the Hand and Land are initially unavailable. Players must also select a game server for characters to exist on. While servers are not explicitly delineated by language, data centers have been placed in the supported regions (i.e., North America, Europe, Japan) to improve the communication latency between the server and the client computer and players are recommended to choose a server in their region. Regardless of server or language, the game features a large library of automatically translated game terms and general phrases which allow players who speak different languages to communicate.”

  1. Why would you want to run so far back to avoid that conical AOE, when you could just go forward, slightly left or right, and just be out of the area quicker, while still being able to attack the enemy. You can be anywhere, as long as you're not in the orange area when it disappears, so just go for the shortest way, because that's also usually the way where you can still be in melee and DPS, as a tank. Which is necessary in XIV.

    Enemies when casting stuff are locked into place, so you won't be moving the boss around, and since you can run back in front of the boss while he's doing his animation, you won't be moving him around at all, so please don't be afraid to strafe, instead of turning your back to bosses.

  2. Legacy controlls, yeah, I heard about it… but I prefer the ability to rotate my camera and see every angle of the arena. It may be useful… worth a try… but when I avoid aoe cones and the like, I just strife left or right, and usually I'm fast enough.
    And I'll defenitely check out the hotbar thing from the end… That actually sounds usefull… Not really needed 'cause I have a similar setup, but hey, there's always room for improvement 🙂

  3. God bless you for recommending Legacy. Legacy with A and D mapped to strafe is not only cozy, but also the best way to play since you won't ever have your movement jerked around by trying to run out of an AoE.

  4. As someone who has over 97 mounts atm I need to have the music turned off, the music is good but when you hear the same music day in and day out it doesn’t matter how nice it is it just starts to get irritating but when I get a new mount if it is unique I will listen to it for a day or so

  5. 8:00 – Don't use Numpad 0, but use 'Target Filter' button which by default is on X. Holding that down lets you select ANY NPC or objects in the field and hide player names by auto-selecting and highlighting the entity closest to your cursor.

  6. All debuffs can be dispelled (Ensuna) by healers when it has a bar at the top of its 'shield' icon
    Debuffs always have their (shield) point down, buffs point up.
    Right click any window title bar allows you to scale the window by percentage
    White dots on your gear slots on the inventory grid shows gear that need materia to be extracted
    You can make macros (command /macros) that can re(set) settings like sound, graphics settings, camera angle etc. With 2 macros you can control between default and doing a difficult boss with less effects on the fly by just pressing that macro on your bar.
    You can click on the quest icon above a NPC to open up the quest

  7. BOSS ATTACKS;
    they trigger BEFORE the animation.
    PLAYER ACTIONS;
    they trigger AFTER the animation.

    this is why most ppl claim the games lag is "clunky".
    because most games are in reverse. because it gives players an advantage. but FFXI removes that advantage.
    in other games it would be;
    Boss attacks trigger AFTER the animation (plenty of time to dodge)
    Player actions trigger BEFORE the animation, giving you a slight advantage in reacting to an NPCs actions.

    Just know its intentionally inverted. (and for various reasons, mostly NOT because of "bad servers" as some claim)

  9. There is three icons on top right of the gear item (shield, glamour dresser, armorer). They show you which gear can be stored outside of the armory and inventory.

    Sightseeing log is an underrated feature in FF since ARR, just use /lookout when you stand on the blue bubble icon

    Certain FATE bosses affected by the weather. You will see ppl call out on a map or if the weather suddenly has weird colors

    Any quests with a picture on them usually an important ones that either unlock a new feature or specific rewards. Pay attention to the quests as they usually have more story adding to the overall lore or certain characters in between expansions.

    If you complete Place of the dead and Heaven on High, on the certain weather at night. You can hear weird noises or phantom around main towns and cities where those quests leading you along with the creepy music

    All the minions also react to different emotes when you interact with them.

    Random treasure chests around ARR and HW zones

    Certain emotes sometimes require environment effects

    You can use HUD layout to prevent from being auto log out or dismiss by certain duties such as PvP, Eureka, and Bozja

    Eozean time (ET) is used for gathering nodes and commonly use in tracking Ranking monsters and time calling

    Tell only work if all players on the same server or not in a duty

    Type /dice or /random allow you to roll the dices. The number can be used to indicate the treasure dungeon door if you’re uncertain the choice, odd is left and even is right

    Dungeon bosses have a chance to drop rare triple triad platinum cards with a very low chance. But I first have to unlock Gold saucer for it

    Right timing directional attacks can allow you to avoid knockback or pull in effect by some monsters

    Some monsters are sensitive to sound, especially with anything with more aetherial aspects

    You can use sleep or stun to stun interrupt cast, especially with small monsters

    You can float on the water, lying on the bed, climbing walls, and of course, Kugane puzzle…

    If a lot ppl stand near the aetheryte, it can cause longer loading screen and a lot background noise effects

    You can search how many players on the location you stand with a maximum of 200

    Timer under duty menu also allow you to track your activities have done or some on pending like a history session of what did you do

    World visit is under the aetheryte after you unlock them… can be used to travel to another shard and along with Party finder

  10. There are cutscenes you CANNOT SKIP no matter what, especially in end xpac MSQ dungeon/raids. Also, don't be bullied into skipping cutscenes. If you want to watch them, do it. It's your game and your story. If the party can't wait, they can start with one less member and you'll still get teleported to the fight if you weren't in the area when the cutscene started…
