  1. The advantage this game and its dev team has over others is that we don't have to wonder about what they think of a particular topic. I have seen fans of other games in the genre wondering what the dev team was thinking after implementing content and systems. Especially if those systems and content has been received poorly by the community. This game doesn't have that problem because they will have already told us. Told what why and the goals. This is what is exceptional about this game.

  2. I stayed away from MMO's until now, I spent over an hour refreshing the world list to create my first character on the same world as my buddy. I'm lvl 38 right now, this community is insane, the things I've seen the last few days have been pretty amazing. 10/10 would wait another hour just to make a character.

  3. He is a litteraly GOD, I mean he destroyed his own game after the launch, and made even better game on the shoulders of the "bad game", It is a real PHOENIX of the game….. That is because of ASMONGOLD!!

  4. Yeah man I got teared up myself, "As producer, the responsibility for being unable to predict the current influx of new players falls to me." speaks volumes of this mans character and an outstanding Boss to work for.

  5. And THIS is why I love Square Enix's FFXIV team. They really do care about us. And their apology is accepted. This was nothing they could anticipate! I'm just happy that FFXIV is growing! It means new players.

  6. Wow I haven't experienced more than a couple minutes waiting to log in. Not giving away my server name though… I feel bad for folks suffering these long waits and hope it ends soon..

  7. That final few paragraphs and how they are phrased show exactly what makes the culture between the devs and playerbase for this game so unique. Look at the way he says that they have placed a burden on the PLAYERS, and were working to alleviate that burden.

Like…nah, Yoshida, its no burden to me. Its just a queue time, no big deal. But the fact that he presents it this way show how well they prioritize the players above everything. Not that other developers don't work just as hard, and don't also put the players first in their priorities. But this sort of messaging shoots them miles up in the eyes of the community. This is honestly one of the most well made press releases regarding server issues I've ever seen.

  8. Even tho the afk timer kinda sucks for ppl like me that live in the game even when im sleeping, its super important to get all the ppl not playing out, so others can enter. I don't mind being booted to allow a new player to log in.

  9. You know, there's a certain irony about this surge, this is almost like a soft opening trial run of the Endwalker expansion. SE is getting a chance to see what a first hand response of what their infrastructure will be undergoing when Endwalker is released. The fact they are able to get out in front of this early before Endwalker is actually released is almost a blessing in disguise. As a player, it's wonderful to actually receive these kinds of messages from the man responsible for building a game we all love. This was an amazing video response.

  11. I understand why the director is sorry, but man the only thing I would like to tell him is ''challenge ahead! time to rock'n'roll!!!'' As a very new FF14 casual player I can't say that this game is unexpectedly good.

  12. What really impressed me was that he took the time to break down how things work on a technical level and what the real-life economical challenges were. He phrased things in a way that was descriptive and technical but easy to understand, which never felt condescending or like an excuse. And that's not easy to do. He's really a masterful communicator.

  13. As someone who completely adores the game: Yoshi-p def should’ve seen coming and been able to prepare more. Square and Yoshi specifically had the foresight to know to completely rebuild the game or risk destroying the brand entirely, but didn’t look in the past to see what happened with vanilla back in 05-08? Not complaining because I still get my fix, but the apology isn’t unwarranted. It’s not like their marketing team and the public opinion about WoW hasn’t been out there for years at this point.

  14. Yoshi P is still haunted by the launch of 2.0, game was so popular whole server crashed. So you need to understand, the man who cried and begged players forgiveness for not expecting the game’s success still have PTSD about the game’s success.

  15. This is all awesome to see, only great news for the future, only thing i'm a little concerned is he didn't address the problem that the vast majority of new players from the US and EU are having, which is purchasing the games and activating them trough their website, in all honestly it's super tedious and confusing, i hope they do something about it soon so people can go from the free trial to a standard edition or full edition with ease. In my experience their website stopped me a couple of times from upgrading my free trial because i was afraid of screwing something up in the process and wasting money

  16. I propably have never been so happy to be a part of this Comunity….
Thank you Yoshida and all the devs at SE for us to be a part… And you beeing a part of our Comunity too.
And thank you Chris for this emotionally driven video. I choked at the same part in the letter as you got emotional on at the same time… Much love, take care. All of you

  17. Something I've noticed that is a little difference, but is so telling: When people refer to Yoshi-P, it's almost exclusively as "OUR" Producer and Director. As if we're Squeenix employees, as if we're members of the company. That's how tight the community feels to many people. We're party of the team because we feel relevant in development, and they feel like part of the community and not just "people who make the game". It's a real relationship.

  18. Good thing I stopped playing FF14 because the tank gameplay no longer interests me.

And back in 3.x when I first joined the tank gameplay was what made me love Dark Knight a lot, and yes I did go out of my way to get the cross class skills that Dark Knight could get and was getting cross class skills for Dark Knight was priority number 1. So learning the role through Gladiator and Marauder as a whole before learning Dark Knight helped me get a better grasp of what Dark Knight could do as a tank.

4.x experience was soured by a lot of different factors(obviously Raubaun EX and Pipin Savage contributed and Duty Finder died didn't help), but tank gameplay was still fun I just enjoyed Dark Knight more.

5.x story is great yes, BUT the gameplay changes to tank is what killed A LOT of replay of FF14, because 2.x content is boring because the story in 2.x is generic and mediocre WITH good gameplay at best, and slow boring slog of a chore WITH THE BARE MINIMUM GAMEPLAY FOR 90% OF THE JOBS/CLASSES THAT ISN'T FUN at worst.

I want them to rebalance the FF14 around the 2.x leveling experience, and make tanks fun to play again. But I don't want to get my hopes up and the WoW players are probably going to say "Yeah story's good but gameplay sucks from 1-50" by the time Endwalker launches and player numbers dip like WoWs. And right now I'm not really seeing FF14 surviving past the 6.01 because gameplay in 2.x 1-50 is boring. And the replayability of FF14 keep losing long term value because of the devs insisting on removing things from 2.x leveling just to to sell progression skip items…

  20. Kinda minor community/access issue: FFXIV project lead apologizes.

Blizzard censors for the ccp, let's employees be harassed until suicide, and consistently demeans and insults their fans: "shut up and buy our stuff morons"

I wonder why one is rapidly growing and the other is rapidly decaying. Mystery.
