A fan-made mix to smoothly combine all three variations of Close in the Distance in FFXIV, as played in Ultima Thule.

(The video is choppy, but the file is smooth. It’s likely a YouTube issue.)

0:00 – Variation 1: Distorted Instrumental
3:26 – Variation 2: Clean Instrumental
6:52 – Variation 3: Vocals

  1. in retrospect, I really should've pointed the camera up higher rather than being pointed down at the ground so much. Would've been nice to get more of the horizon and the skybox. Alas, I'm feeling a bit lazy to redo the video atm, but maybe I might redo it in the future anyway 🤔

  2. The first time i came here… and hearing the Lofi version i kept thinking where did i hear it? i knew i heard it somewhere, and until we progressed the music came blowing up, and then i realised.. ah the music i waited and wanted for so long to hear it completey was from the Launch trailer… i can never go back again to that feeling of exicetment and my interest peaked as i progressed… Sooo Gooood

this was such an experience! definitely my favorite part of EW. the distorted music at the very beginning in an unknown land, you’re all alone and don’t know what to expect at all. it was frightening. as you progress and lose your comrades, get to know the miserable situation of the land, music gets cleaner, the same track you’ve been hearing this whole time as if it was somewhere distant and being played through some old broken radio, now gets cleaner and much more introduced to you, like the zone itself.
and then the vocals? completely developed.
you know this is the end, you’re absolutely full of emotions after everything, but hopeful.

thanks for uploading these, big love to this soundtrack <3

  4. by far my favorite final area theme from any Final Fantasy games…was expecting bombastic and heavy orchestral stuff to really set the "YOU CAN DO THIS!" feel that a final area tend to have (victory road from Pokemon as a example)…instead got hit with the feels musically and from the area itself. I turned off everything music wise except the area music for this area, this song is yet another reason why I love video game music as a art form…it tells a story just from the lyrics but in context its much more powerful

Quest Complete tune plays as I sob in the corner

  5. Jeez i really would've liked a option to keep the distorted version, i just love the feeling it gives us, the feeling of a sad nostalgic sad feeling. Of things that were once 😂.
