  1. The loss of positionals hurts the experience enough for me to simply stop playing monk, despite the previous investment into it (ARR relic, parsing…)
Honestly, none of the melees feel 'right' anymore, but I'm still comfortable on them.

  2. Thanks for this.

Honestly the insane amount of position requirements on monk and the boring OGCDs of Shadowbringers monk kept me from sticking with it when other jobs just felt less clunky and more focused.

Now it feels a lot better. You have something you work towards and almost every action you press has meaning outside of just damage.

Also Thunderclap is an amazing change. Feeling like you need to use your gap closer for anything other than mobility felt dumb and I wish more jobs got this change.

Still trying to decide between Monk and Dragoon though lol.

  3. i still have the muscle memory for the old positionals. even if most of them don't do anything, it's a hard habit to break. overall, though, I'm really satisfied with the changes! the blitz system is fun and thunderclap is the GOAT.

  4. Yeah, having damage on mobility abilities was a bad call to have, as it made them used for damage instead of mobility, so when you actually needed them for mobility people generally didnt have them up. Now their gameplay reflects their design properly.

  5. Monk actually took me quite a while to get a good handle on, but now that I'm used to it I think it's super fun and flexible. The new dash is SO satisfying, easily the best in the game, and honestly it just makes me sad to go back to other jobs, especially Samurai. Riddle of Wind is basically just super filler IMO and I personally wish they would either make it 60 seconds or just remove it, but I'm used to it. I was honestly really iffy when I first started expansion on my Monk, but the more time I put in and feel mastery with optimizing the system, the more I find myself appreciating it.

Also, Monk AoE feels really meaty. Dungeons are satisfying to run, especially when pulls are going quick and you can basically perfectly run through your rotation across their entirety.

Monk feels structurally very similar to Ninja with everything loaded into your burst windows, but at the same time actually playing it does come across as distinct (haven't played Endwalker Ninja yet but). I'm torn on whether I want to raid on this or Samurai. Gonna have to spend some time with Samurai on the EX fights to see which I'd prefer.

  6. Man we've been dealing with Chakra overflow for over 2 expansions now, like what the actual fuck is taking them so long to implement such a simple fix holy shit! Aside from that I think new Monk is pretty dope. I like it a lot.

  8. i stand by the theory that all players who didnt main monk love or at least like the changes , and whoever was a main monk before , despise the changes xD (minus the QoL like thunderclap). you need to do some 5head stuff to even align your rotation to raid buffs. clearly not what yoshi-p had in mind when he designed the job.

  9. Always been a monk main but I don’t like these changes. If they gave me all my positionals back it probably won’t but it feels so much more hollow without them. Yeah we got some new flashy skills but I felt that as a monk positionals made me the job I was running circles around bosses.
