Cinder Surprise
Location: Amh Araeng
Fishing Hole: The River of Sand
Bait: Desert Dessert Frog
Conditions: 0-2, Heatwaves after a Dust Storm
Min Gathering: 2250
Intuition Length: 6min

📋Prep Phase
Arrive EXTREMELY early. I usually do about 30 minutes (real life) before the window opens, but 20 minutes also can work. You need a total of 10 Sand Eggs to trigger Cinder’s Intuition. What you want is to catch 9, and then Identical Cast the 9th egg so you can “hold” the last egg until it’s time for Cinder’s window.

Start by casting out into the River of Sand with Desert Dessert Frog. Sand Egg is a ! bite before 10 seconds, but so are a couple other fish. Reel in any ! bites before 10s. If 10s pass and no bite, just hook to reel in, and cast out again. An easy way to tell when to reset the cast is to count the number of swooshes your rod makes. After 4 swooshes, reel in and cast out
it’s about 4 swooshes until Sand Egg will no longer bite.

Catch a Sand Egg, then use Identical Cast and Double Hook to can two more. Continue to catch sand eggs until you have 8 (EIGHT). You don’t want to catch your 9th sand egg off an Identical Cast, because then you can’t Identical Cast it. Once you have 8 eggs make sure you have enough GP for Identical Cast; cast out and catch a 9th Sand Egg, then Identical Cast right after it. This will leave you prepped for Cinder’s window.

đŸ„šCinder’s Window
At or soon after 23:52 (11:52pm) Eorzea time cast out, and catch your 10th and last Sand Egg to trigger Cinder’s Intuition. You have two option for Surface Slap targets.

First option is to slap the sand egg you caught to trigger intuition. If you do this, you can wait until a little after X:52 to cast out, slap and then chum. Cast out after midnight Eorzea time.

Second option is to catch the sand egg to trigger intution, then cast out again, catch, and Surface Slap the next fish that bites. Chum afterwards, then cast out again if it is after midnight Eorzea time.

Either method is valid, I usually slapped the Sand Egg that triggered intuition, but for this catch, I did the second method. Be sure you use Chum right after slapping something.

IN THE WINDOW you’re just going to chum and cast as much you can. Hi-Cordials are HIGHLY recommended. If you are using a standard timer macro (linked below), Cinder will bite NO LATER THAN 13s with Chum. Cinder will bite NO LATER THAN 18s WITHOUT Chum. If you don’t have a bite after either of those times, use hook to reset the cast, chum if you can, and cast out again.

And that’s it! Repeat until your intuition has ended! Across the intuitions I had during the confirmed window, I averaged about 1 egg bite per window, sometimes two, sometimes none. Cinder Surprise is a RARE bite. Worthy of its Legendary Status.

Good luck and happy fishing!

  1. Hi, thank you for all the guides! For these videos marked as (LEGACY), it seems like the methods should still work as of 6.1? Or are there parts of it that don't work now? (Except for obvious things like HQ fish now being called large fish)

  2. Okay, I need to ask about this. I've gone for a dozen or more windows and seen the !!! exactly two times.

On BOTH occasions, it bit, I hit the Reel In button immediately…and it doesn't reel in. I can't press the button again and have to watch as my character does nothing and says it got away. The first time was with a mouse so I switched to a different one. The second time was on keyboard. It happened both times. I have caught every other big fish aside from Ealad and this has never happened with any other fish.

What is happening, and how do I fix it?!
