Many 1.0 horror Stories I still need to show you and some people the Ifrit 8 man fight.
I was in the 1.0 closed beta, mostly because I played FFXI since NA PC launch (11 was the first FF MMO, made by the people who made 1.0), and got to apply for it. There's a web series about it if you're interested in what happened, its by no-clip, I think theres 3 parts.
The animations and character models were more detailed in 1.0, and every cutscene was fully mocapped. However, even this came at the cost of the game running like shit on even the highest end pcs and new story content being next to impossible to develop efficiently. There are whole documentaries about the madness of 1.0's design choices, but even any good choices would be ruined by the biggest problem: the game was unplayable. Literally. The servers made New World look like Battlenet and it would take several seconds for the game to register even the most basic menu input. That is, if the servers were up at all.
