Asmongold has made a video giving his first impressions of Final Fantasy 14, and it was so compelling that I just had to share my thoughts.

Final Fantasy XIV is a very well constructed MMORPG, with a beginning levelling experience that surpasses any other MMO on the market. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have any complaints however…

Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

More about Final Fantasy XIV:
“Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG and features a persistent world in which players can interact with each other and the environment. Players create and customize their characters for use in the game, including name, race, gender, facial features, and starting class. Unlike in the original release, players may only choose to be a Disciple of War or Magic as a starting class—Disciples of the Hand and Land are initially unavailable. Players must also select a game server for characters to exist on. While servers are not explicitly delineated by language, data centers have been placed in the supported regions (i.e., North America, Europe, Japan) to improve the communication latency between the server and the client computer and players are recommended to choose a server in their region. Regardless of server or language, the game features a large library of automatically translated game terms and general phrases which allow players who speak different languages to communicate.”

"Remember us"
As an old MMO player that started with UO – what grind? Going through main quest and even most of the side quests in RR is fun and they don't feel even close to the real grinding.
I have seen the steam version of it and it is a pain in the butt!!!
I have the normal outside steam and it is darn easy to install and make an account I think it is bit over reacted!
SE have to many games to make a launcher for all there games and I think it will overload properly so yeah
And there too many side branches as well they work with
ARR is recapped a 2 years ago! so it is shorter and some dungeon was on the main scenario's they removed it in ARR! So it was so much longer then now
im still on free account i still dont know how to subscribe.
There are addons to fix the response delay of abilities in ff14. But it's an add-on so it's kinda hush hush.
I still enjoy playing swtor. Pvp is fun enough, and if you have friends to play with and your not in a rush you can lvl together and its really enjoyable going through all the story quests.
As a ten man only guild back in WOTLK in wow, when ulduar came out, ten man ulduar was the same ilvl as 25 man naxx. So a 25 man guild could could break into two groups and clear 10 man ulduar with ease. Yes with new mechanics, but no difficulty spike. And I realized then that the smaller your party, the more responsibility you carry.
As a passionate RuneScape that doesn't really care about either game, I'm loving to watch this duel. I've been watching Asmongold just for his D&D and FFXIV videos, never having known him before and don't care otherwise. Also I feel like I'd enjoy FFXIV more than WoW, though I think my RS3 is even better.
Nero is a good example of redemption, but let's not forget Ysale too.
I am glad he had vet FF players in chat who could help him turn off sounds/spell effects/etc. Things like hitting "X" to talk to npc. This was a good thing. Kudos to square on teh bans.
Wow for me was ramuh extreme via duty finder queue, we wiped… A lot… But damn it was satisfyingly to bring him down
just a quick thing here about flying mounts. There was a time when that was not the case. You had mounts that could fly and then you had some that could not. But then later on it was changed to just make it easier for everybody that everything flies now. Oh just a little thing but it’s just something to point out. I great reaction. I rather enjoyed it.
This is no way hateful towards the ffxiv I’m glad your all having fun. But why is this the most popular mmo atm. I’ve been playing ti for sometime and researching and it just hasn’t been fun for me and with what I’ve found I just don’t know why it’s beating other mmos like ESO or GW2.
-zones are small and instanced and not a real open world with loading screens between each zone
– classes and jobs have no customisation or build options so you will play exactly the same as the other dragoon
– PVP is crap
– stats barely matter unless ur playing at the absolute high end so there’s no sense of real character progression or power fantasy
– The levelling at the beginning of the game is super boring and monotenis (I know it gets better later on)
– slow paced combat with unflavourful abilities (compared to abilities in other mmos that feel fun and unique to use)
– a giant cash shop which sells u tonnes of transmog which u can’t get any other way but paying
All I can think of for positives is story and glamour. But that isn’t enough to make me want to commit time to the game. Clicking endlessly through silent dialogue boxes and listening to the occasional voices cutscene just isn’t that fun for me.
So give me your opinions why do you like ffxiv?
Mogstation is handling by a third party I think. It’s weird at first but I think it’s better than PSO2 that you need residential address to buy the game because it was region locked, even for PS4 players.
It’s mostly due to the rules too, wow doesn’t popular in Japan and restricted in China. For Western audiences, it’s easier to play all the games in the west by just sign up and done. This, however, might trouble in the Eastern games because of gacha market and reroll faking accounts. Japanese games tend to have a very strict of information security and they quite worrying about customers losing their data because of world transfer cross datacenter for instance.
Though that’s usually not very much the case but ppl have done that for a lot of games with region lock or restricted access. One everything is verified. It’s easier to pick up the game how you want it.
On the note, you can buy the game code from Amazon and retail stores separatedly, since in game is restricted by ToS to avoid RMT and those third party bots. It does somewhat more secure and safer if you access the game in a region does not support the service providing and buy something like game card to play.
It’s really aroundbout for those who just want to jump into the game as quick as possible. It really remind me of how ppl buy tickets for concerts where you have multiple party handling different things and it’s also very confusing as well. But once you get through that, everything else is quite simple.
How can I play my character on PC and ps5? Do I need to buy 2 licenses. Can't play the free trial on different platforms with the same square Enix account right?
to think that i used to "dislike" asmongold when watching his first video and now to think maybe he is the one who will unite wow and ffxiv comunity is wild…
My fiance and I loved playing through ARR so much we did it five times on alts before going into Heavansward. Now admittedly we were also playing/rping our characters D&D style during it so we added our own flavor to each run, but it was a good simple story and told a thousand times better then anything WoW has. It invested us. And knowing, going forward, that our friendships will matter is great.
Agree about the villains completely and neither of them have met the best villain yet.
The wall of text in WoW questing is like having to read ToS everytime you do a quest. I'm always like "where is the accept button?"
I like this guy.
Blizzard games feel so smooth…
RECENT D3 SEASONS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION
I tried to get into ffxiv with a friend. He outlevelled me in no time. I was playing healer, he was playing tank, so he had 0 queue time. I made it to level 52 as Scholar and then dropped it.
People have told me since, that I was nearly at the end of the “early game slog”.
Should I try to get back into it? What do you guys think?
I quit wow some months ago cause of shadowlands and all the faults the devs did with this add on. Now I am playing ff14 and even when people telling arr is a bit more boring, for me it’s just slow paced but okay compared to other mmos. I mean even shadowlands is not that different. You just walk from a to b the whole time.
Second thing he mentioned, is the service and the gms. Back in the days you felt that the support or the gms cared about your problem but now they just give a shit. One ticket in shadowlands, that was gamebreaking to me, took literally 5 days till I get an answer and than it was just an automatic generated one. So I had to wait another 3 days for something happened. Just awful. It’s kinda surprising to see that the support of ff14 is as great as it should be.
