Atomos popping up all over was indeed a 1.0 event during the the very end of it. Thinking back, they were actually a bit of a precursor for the FATES added to 2.0.
Fun fact, Atomos dropped items that sold for absurd amounts of money to NPCs. It was so easy to grind that legacy players basically broke the economy in 2.0, particularly with housing being initially priced based on wealth averages. Servers would only have a few sold homes, and this was by design as a money sink. Devs only wanted a few FCs to have homes.
Atomos indirectly caused FFXIV’s housing crisis.
