Still loving this game and more than that the communities around it There is just so much in this game it’s impossible to do it all. If you like combat, or simulations, or racing, or roleplaying, or crafting, or card game, or … well, much more, then there is something for you.
One note I’d add: I think about the game’s community differently. I’ve found people in FCs, fellowships, etc. to be amazing. The people I’ve met there aren’t public content creators, but they create a lot of content and many experiences for each other. In-game I’ve encountered a few trolls and troglodytes., but mostly friendly, helpful people. ❤ Then there’s the Limsa Aetheryte Plaza…can’t even begin to explain that community 😂
The drama reacts gets very boring to watch, lol. I just ignore it and continue to play the game or find something to do if not , then go back to FF11 that keeps me chill and away from nonsense drama from that part of the community. Don't care, and none of my business.
First off, grats on losing the 50lbs Brian! Keep it up, you got this!!!!
Still love this game. Sort on a break. I log in, do some daily isle stuff cuz i want mount, and come the new year my buddy might form an uwu grp, and i want to get that fight finished.
If you want to avoid the toxicity of FFXIV, just avoid the reddit, seriously, that place is a cespool. Its like that scene in the Lion King when simba asks bout the dark lands lol.
I played from Alpha 1.0 up until the end of Endwalker. The game has degraded into a basic RNG machine with a token grind. The community is an insidious combination of elitism and zealotry. People in this game are generally nice and supportive until you start doing well, then they turn sour and hateful. Healers are boring to play since they are basically a dps with 1 damage spell and only cast heals now and then. Crafting is also a token grind in which you also need to have a programming background to write macros to accomplish tasks, while also having to run dungeons on battle jobs to get even more tokens to buy crafting mats so you can do the thing you logged to actually do. Gathering eats up your gill since they revamped travel to cost more than the farther you travel. While chasing rare/legendary nodes, you burn through your gil just teleporting maps so you can gather. The housing system is probably the biggest debacle I've ever seen, especially considering Yoshi was over FFXI and had a great template for a housing system to begin with. I may come back to try the next xpac, but I really don't expect anything groundbreaking. I'm sure we can look forward to a new name for the same tokens.
Sandbox MMOs won't return simply because they can't use it for metrics the same way seasonal style MMOs do. You cannot look at the weekly drop systems in these MMOs and ignore how they're carefully designed so that you need multiple months. It's a real scummy thing to do, but it works. FF14 ended up reducing the number of raid items needed for the weapon exchange to 4, but the weekly tomestone limits remains and emphasizes this. But of course, many MMOs do this including World of Warcraft and Lost Ark. Many often defend this saying it's to prevent burnout, but I would argue the exact opposite. The need to login on a regular basis is what creates burnout.
I also disagree on the saga aspect of the game. In fact, I would argue that if it weren't for one area of the game where a bunch of pointless things are shoehorned in, Heavensward is an entire expansion that could have been skipped with zero consequences to the story. This is before you consider how inconsistent they are with Primals and how Primals are changed to suit their needs at any given point in time. This is what makes me worried about the future of the game. Individually, the stories are fine, but it feels like they don't have a story lead/editor who should be keeping everything in line. I mean the Endwalker raids were nice and all, but doesn't this mean that the consequences are going to be much more dire going forward? Or you know. Does it all just disappear and suddenly not matter anymore?
First

(Would have like WeskAlber shouted out too as a content creator too—also makes some of the best guides out there!!)

Sadly, it is no longer enjoyable…

If Im gonna play a final fantasy mmo, it's final fantasy 11. Currently there is a free login and discounts on the game if your interested.
